GunnySonics 127 Posted October 23, 2017 I watched some great cold war movies this weekend if anyone likes that type of thing:- Bridge of Spies (Colonel Abel & the Shooting down of the U2 with Gary Powers), starring Tom Hanks The Russia House (Sean Connery Micheal Pfiefer) The Fourth Protocol (Rogue KGB plan to detonate a nuclear bomb close to an RAF Base in England and blame the local USAF Unit for the accident (Micheal Caine & Piers Brosnan) Thought they were worth a mention, highly enjoyable

Frightening stuff and there is no way to predict where and when it will happen. 2 hours ago, GunnySonics said:

Wrench 9,813 Posted October 23, 2017 How exactly do you define it? As in "anything from 1948 to 1990-ish, about confrontation between the superpowers?" If that's the case, I have to add "Hell and High Water" (the Richard Widmark 1954 submarine one) "Fail Safe", of course - both versions there's one I have vague memories of, from my childhood in the 1960s -- it's about a Soviet invasion of Alaska using "captured" US aircraft, but I've never found out the name or plot line!

Heck 496 Posted October 23, 2017 I vaguely remember The Bedford Incident. Richard Widmark as a Captain again. "The Bedford will never fire one."

Skyviper 1,101 Posted October 27, 2017 If you have a Prime Membership, a love for spies, some light pornography, easy to follow stories, and some violence. I'd recommend The American's series. Russian spies posing as Americans during the cold war. As far as movies go. I think you all covered the good ones. Bridge of Spies is in my collection and I love that movie. I'm going to watch it a bit later now that you all have me thinking about it. I loved that story and the ending. Oh! Charlie Wilson's War ... that's a good one too. Snailman 517 Posted October 30, 2017 There's a lot of good cold war movies, with actual soviet war machines... the problem is language, for obvious reasons these movies have never been dubbed or even subtitled. Even more sadly, very few western cold war movies and the majority of them are not really watchable.... Vietnam air war movie... only Flight of the Intruder. Sub movie, Red October and K-13. Perhaps The Hunters about Korean Air war... or the Brotherhood (?) about both sides of the Korean land war. NOt much anything else. I mean Im talking about actual war movies, not spy or political thrillers.
