  1. Airmax, not to down your idea, but many of the aircraft you mentioned wouldn't be available to a 3rd world AF during the period. The MiG-31 for instance, hasnt even been exported outside of Russia. Just my thoughts. V/R Storm
  2. IIRC, the A-37B (Big gun, small plane?) mission had some infantry that you had to kill and would shoot at you. Thats all I can think of outside of YAP, which I dont have.
  3. Because this is a 3rd World AF, use of older aircraft/vehicles is realistic. You could have one squadron of 4th Generation jets (the F-16 ADF and Fulcrum-As) to show some modernization. I second the idea of liking the Kfir. Maybe even the Pantera, A-37B, or Pucara. Second-hand COIN aircraft are relatively cheap and I think would fit well in the scenario. Just more ideas to mull over. Storm
  4. Too bad the 105 & 40mms cant be trainable. On the real aircraft, they do have some movement to help with accuracy. The 20mms were fixed, while the 25mm on the U-boat is also flexible a bit. Storm
  5. Thanks Warren. This really gives us another level of realism. Jeff
  6. What? The Co actually had a say in what you did? And all this before the current CRM training. I'm impressed. Jug, your stories rock. I'm posting them for our guys to read within my squadron. They'll get a kick out them also. Thanks!
  7. There are other flying jobs available also. Granted first choice is a pilot, but we do still have some Navigators (WSOs in the F-15E) and Electronic Warfare Officers. How good of shape are you in? If the flying gig falls through, you can always try out for the Special Tactics units. They are the Pararescue and Combat Control teams. I've known several guys from the STS throughout my career and they love the job. Good luck! Storm P.S. Dont let anyone fool you into thinking we dont ride a desk. If we aren't flying, we are doing paperwork. Everyone has a ground job in my squadron.
  8. Holy crap Jug, that was a cool story. S!
  9. I think the F-16 ADF would be appropriate as well as the F-4N. Interesting ideas.
  10. When I A/R'd them over Afghanistan last year, they were carrying GBU-12/Es on those TERs. Just an FYI if you wanted to mod the loadout. I did. Storm
  11. You know you are bada$$ when you can land a long-nose Phantom on a ship. Thanks for the pics Icarus. -- gbnavy61, is that what the red light on the nose gear door means?
  12. False and True. I hate "Sex and the City" but do like to watch TV with my dogs. The person below me has eaten 50 eggs at one time.
  13. When you fly the same ingress routes for 3 nights straight and have a pretty good tracking crew, anything is possible.
  14. Try flying a jet for 8+ hours that doesnt even have guns or bombs! And my Mintola is the sole camera for our "recce" missions. You've pretty well summed it up Dave. For the fast movers, missions sucked unless you dropped something or did a Show of Force. And they cant even hit pause to take pee. Jeff
  15. Going over Gocad's tutorial in the KB (yes folks, it is useful), he explains how to install carriers to a terrain where there arent any. Well, I'm curious to know if anyone has successfully added the CTF-58 or CTF-77 ships to the map/campaign. Having one ship is just lame. I'm just asking to ensure I'm not reinventing the wheel, so to speak. Thanks!
  16. I was trying to find some of my photos to help you guys with the terrain. There is a red desert that is just south of Kandahar (maybe 10 miles), and stretches south and west. It's weird seeing it from 25K as it has a pronounced drop/rise. But it's a huge landmark and would be cool to get it into the terrain. Here is one of mine from an A/R over that desert. Here are some photos I did find on the net. Most are from a Army Helo pilot, so I'll respect his ownership of the photos and link them, instead of posting the actual photo. The others are also from the net. The map is really good and if you could use that to help with the terrain. http://picasaweb.google.com/ryan.l.veneber...310164134033330 http://picasaweb.google.com/ryan.l.veneber...288079412197250 http://picasaweb.google.com/ryan.l.veneber...309992335341458 http://picasaweb.google.com/ryan.l.veneber...310086824621986 Red Desert 2 Afghan Topography map Hope it all helps. I've spent a lot of time over this country and would like to see the map done as close as we can get to real. Jeff
  17. Hmmm, I'm wondering how credible that story is. I know the QFs were part of the new ARM test, in the early part of this year. But I hadnt heard of any plans to use them in place of a UAV. The fuel that beast burns is nuts. They'd have a 35 minute sortie. Still though, I'd love to see the old Phantom grace the skies again. Here's a pic of the new missile. Ironically it was on a QF-4G. Storm
  18. No rush, really. I was just mentioning it, before the idea was lost. Cheers, Storm P.S. Malibu, that looks great.
  19. Easy there...
  20. I've been there a few times. Enjoyed it all. They have an great collection of aircraft. Do they still have the F-4C painted in Blue Angel colors or is that it in your last pic, repainted in the Michigan ANG scheme? Storm
  21. Does the WoV terrain have any provisions for the FOBs? Can the WoE "highway bases" be adapted for use in WoV for helos and the FACs? Has this crossed anyone's thoughts? Storm
