  1. GIMP is free, and handles dds the next to latest version inst to far off of PS (at least as i remember it 4 years ago) and has about 90% of the same functionality (again, as i recall....)
  2. well, there isnt a more perfect image for a patch (32px bmp in dropdown menu type) than that right there
  3. cant speak for the Navy in 1989 (when the Iowa turret blew and they tried to pin it on one Sailor rather than admit several unauthorized things were going on) but in the late 90s commands always seemed quick to pin it on one person if they could. relieved damn near if it actually stuck. it only got worse (as far as commanders and very senior NCOs of the E-8/E-9 persuasion go) over twenty years. i had a CPT maintenence officer in Kosovo. we had an inspection on the vehicles from Division, and everyone thankfully passed. everyone but Battalion Maintenence, all of whose trucks and M88 were deadline. while i wasnt a NCO at the time (hell, i wasnt even maintenence, just attached since cooks had no job), i was there when he was told. you could see him get pissed in his face for about 30 seconds. we braced ourselves. then he said calmly, "How do we fix it?" that in my opinion was one of the finer examples of leadership in 21 years i witnessed. i can not imagine it being common today.
  4. that would be awesome to see IRL. i know the Hornets certainly were mandatory screenie, or shenanigans pt 2
  5. first off, do excuse me for treating this like a job hiring process. it sort of is, but all we can afford to pay you is 10000 points. 30000 if the letter H is involved* (j/K) to those that have thrown their hats in the ring i appreciate it. i have let the boss know to check the thread, and waiting on word back, when one of the two of us will let you know. or if something (or nothing) below interests let us know. we probably wont bring too many in, but those of us already in are getting swamped with current projects and real life. we have several skinners, tga and ini gurus in group already, but one active and two inactive 3D modellers, 1 skinner asking for model revisions can be frustrating, a dozen would suck the joy out of this hobby. the projects currently on the table are Mirage IVA redux * Tu-16 * An-22 Antei * Saab Argus * C-2A(R) Greyhound (FM guruu needed) * A-6A * 707-320 * VC-10 * 747 for those in the know (and now those that werent) there are a few more projects in the works. they arent listed here because they are already claimed by interested parties or in progress. yes there are airliners in there. no daddyairplanes is not snatching them up immediately may come back to them later, but i have a full plate, fridge, and storage freezer in the basement *as for the letter H, my only clue is Whose Line is It Anyway?
  6. ah, blame a sailor. then realize there was much bigger problems the classic game https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Iowa_turret_explosion
  7. to the first 40 or so that downloaded it, i apologize i had mistakenly left an older lod in the folder for uploading that misplaces one of the engines. the correct lod is now uploaded. those that downloaded already can get the correct lod here C-141A.7z once again, i apologize for the mistake

  11. probably the Hornets. they have been in use for 27 years now, and wont be retired (if i am right) for another two to three... in addidtion to. 28 Super Hornets on order too, figure they replace the legacy Hornets thatve been in use for over a quarter century
  12. post it here since this threadhasnt been used in a while. its really nice when you find some of those nuggets while working on a project. C-141B of the 445th Airlift Wing (AFRES) out of Norton AFB, heading home from Airlift Rodeo 93
  13. awesome work would you be planning to do VA-46 Clansmen also or are you just sticking to the squadrons that deployed to Vietnam/WestPAC?
  14. ..... im gonna jump out a big iron bird....
  15. now wouldnt you know joining the Air Force still didnt keep them Duke boys out of trouble
  16. starting questions - did you edit the aircraft data ini from NUC to BOMB? - do you have the French weapons that would have actually loaded, or did you change the attachment types to NATO or USAF? - do you have the dual ejector racks that would be needed for most of those layouts? (french bombs and dual ejector racks found in several mods, easiest being Gunny's weapons pack but with many newer ones out there im sure) - finally, out of my own curiosity, are you planning to use Mk80 series bombs? the french would use SAMP series bombs, and still have a big enough defense industry and military to not buy American
  17. just had a thought on this, given its low observable features and McDonnell Douglas' past with supernatural names (especially for naval fighters) Spectre would have been a good name for this had it gone forward (USAF gunships be damned!)
  18. had to double check Mitsubishi Heavy Industries is doing final assembly in Japan if i read correctly. it only took them 80 years to work on a new naval fighter
  19. he beat me to it on the file portion GKABS work is much newer and more detailed than the older pack. not to put the old missiles down, its just a matter of being more recent and being able to build on and improve the older works. why not just use GKABS HAWK? unless there is some specific reason to use the older set, i would generally use the newer set when possible
  20. 27 Sep 1991: By order of President George HW Bush, aircraft and ICBM components of the Strategic Air Command are taken off of nuclear alert.
  21. well, that Gemie's out the bottle mandatory screenie, or Straight Outta Fairfield
  22. its like inception: not impossible just bloody damn difficult depends on what youre trying to remove, but given you say the game pulls stock weapons i would (in your shoes) edit the aircraft data ini to no longer carry that weapon. you wont see it in that campaign. or anywhere esle you fly on that install unless you are flying in an ODS or other post Vietnam era campaign, this should work. before the late 1970s there arent that many "one size fits all" missile or rocket types. Navy and Air Force Phantoms carried different Sidewinders and Sparrows, the Century series birds with exception of the F-104 didnt carry either of them etc etc. one other option is to do a new data ini for the offending weapon and set it to end service the year before your campaign. same names as the stock one that substitutes in so the game doesnt do that any more the catch to it is do you want this change to only affect the campaign or the whole install? final thing to change would be the aircrafts loadout ini. for basic mission types (like intercept) it will preload for you. you can have other load out types, but usually need the mission editor to see them (like 57th FIS intercept)
