  1. Sukhoi Su-25T Tankovy & Su-25SM Frogfoot for SF2

    Sukhoi Su-25T Tankovy & Sukhoi Su-25SM Frogfoot for SF2

The Su-25T (Tankovy) is a dedicated antitank version, which has been combat-tested with notable success in Chechnya. The design of the aircraft is similar to the Su-25UB ( unification of 85%). The variant was converted to one-seater, with the rear seat replaced by additional avionics. It has all-weather and night attack capability. In addition to the full arsenal of weapons of the standard Su-25, the Su-25T can employ the KAB-500Kr TV-guided bomb, KH-58 ARM, R-73, MPS-410 ECM Pod and the semi-active laser-guided Kh-25ML. Its enlarged nosecone houses the Shkval optical TV and aiming system with the Prichal laser rangefinder and target designator. It can also carry Vikhr laser-guided, tube-launched missiles, which is its main antitank armament. For night operations, the low-light TV Merkuriy pod system can be carried under the fuselage. Three Su-25Ts prototypes were built in 1983–86 and 8 production aircraft were built in 1990. With the introduction of a definitive Russian Air Force Su-25 upgrade programme, in the form of Stroyevoy Modernizirovannyi, the Su-25T programme was officially canceled in 2000.

The Su-25SM (Stroyevoy Modernizirovannyi) is an "affordable" upgrade programme for the Su-25, conceived by the Russian Air Force in 2000. The programme stems from the attempted Su-25T and Su-25TM (aka Su-39) upgrades, which were evaluated and labelled as over-sophisticated and expensive. The SM upgrade incorporates avionics enhancements and airframe refurbishment to extend the Frogfoot's service life by up to 500 flight hours or 5 years.
The Su-25SM's all-new PRnK-25SM "Bars" navigation/attack suite is built around the BTsVM-90 digital computer system, originally planned for the Su-25TM upgrade programme. Navigation and attack precision provided by the new suite is three times better of the baseline Su-25.
A new KA1-1-01 Head-Up Display (HUD) was added providing, among other things, double the field of view of the original ASP-17BTs-8 electro-optical sight. Other systems and components incorporated during the upgrade include a Multi-Function Display (MFD), RSBN-85 Short Range Aid to Navigation (SHORAN), ARK-35-1 Automatic Direction Finder (ADF), A-737-01 GPS/GLONASS Receiver, Karat-B-25 Flight Data Recorder (FDR), Berkut-1 Video Recording System (VRS), Banker-2 UHF/VHF communication radio, SO-96 Transponder and a L150 "Pastel" RWR.
The R-95Sh engines have been overhauled and modified with an anti-surge system installed. The system is designed to improve the resistance of the engine to ingested powders and gases during gun and rocket salvo firing.
The combination of reconditioned and new equipment, with increased automation and self-test capability has allowed for a reduction of pre- and post-flight maintenance by some 25 to 30%. Overall weight savings are around 300 kg (660 lb).
Su-25SM weapon suite has been expanded with the addition of the Vympel R-73 highly agile air-to-air missile (without helmet mounted cuing) and the S-13T 130 mm rockets (carried in five-round B-13 pods). Further, the Kh-25ML and Kh-29L Weapon Employment Profiles have been significantly improved, permitting some complex missile launch scenarios to be executed, such as: firing two consecutive missiles on two different targets in a single attack pass. The GSh-30-2 cannon (250-round magazine) has received three new reduced rate-of-fire modes: 750, 375 and 188 Rounds per Minute. Like the Su-25T it can carry the MPS-410 ECM Pod.
The eventual procurement programme is expected to include between 100 and 130 kits, covering 60 to 70 percent of the Russian Air Force active single-seat fleet, as operated in the early 2000s. The Su-25SM has been operating over Syria in 2015.

Special note on the Vikhr rocket launcher tubes:

TLR/ ATR weapons rack can only carry a maximum of 6 LGR missiles but the Vikhr rocket launcher for the Su-25T carries 8. As a work around there are two 8 tube ATR launchers that are different 'rack specific' weapon stations but have the exact same position. One of the launchers holds 6 LGR the other holds just 2. The missiles are positioned on the ATR racks so the one that holds 2 fills in the empty tubes of the ATR that holds 6. The Loadout.ini will loads both racks correctly but it is not possible to manually load them and get 8 rockets in the tubes, you will only get 6 if you do it manually.

    To install:

    Drop into your Mods folder

Included in the ‘optional’ folder is a modified NATO Fighters 5 1986 Red Storm (WP) Campaign to include the Su-25T. It will show up an extra campaign named “861019 Red Storm (WP) Su-25T” and will not affect any of the other NATO Fighters campaigns.

    History

In October 1986, the USAF announced that operational block 15 F-16A/B aircraft would be converted to air defense fighters for the Air National Guard, and would take over the fighter interception mission, providing the primary defense of North America against bombers and cruise missiles.

The first F-16A ADF conversion was completed in February 1989, while a contract was placed for kits to update and modify a total of 270 F-16A/B's at the Ogden Air Logistics Center in Utah. The Block 15 airframes used for the ADF program were all meant to be upgraded to block 15OCU standard, and both programs ran in conjunction. Aircraft entering the Ogden ALC for ADF upgrade also received the Block 15OCU avionics installation. The net result is that all ADF aircraft are Block 15OCU airframes. The last ADF left Ogden in 1992.

    Structure & Avionics

Modifications included Bendix King (now Allied Signal) AN/ARC-200HF/SSB radios with Have Quick II Secure Speech Module and the Teledyne/E Systems Mk.XII Advanced IFF system (APX-109). The APG-66 radar was modified (designated APG-66A) to provide look down/shoot-down capability, enhanced small target detection, and CW (Continuous Wave) illumination for AIM-7 guidance.

A 150,000 candlepower night identification spotlight was installed on the port side of the nose (below and in front of the cockpit) to aid in the identification of nighttime intruders. The aircraft were equipped to carry 600 (US) gallon (2,271 liter) external drop tanks, and to carry 6 BVR missiles such as the AIM-7 Sparrow or AIM-120 AMRAAM.

    Modifications & Upgrades

The ADF aircraft can be distinguished from "standard" F-16A/B's by several external identifying features, such as long and thin horizontal bulges on the base of the vertical tail (only A-models), plus a set of four blade antenna, nicknamed "bird-slicer", carried just forward of the canopy (as part of the IFF system).

The bulges are caused by the relocation of the Bendix-King AN/ARC-200 high frequency single-sideband radio to the leading edge of the fin. This in turn caused the flight control accumulators, which were installed one over the other, to be relocated to either side of the tail fin. The bulges were installed to provide sufficient room for these accumulators. Note that, since the Bravo-model ADF's do not have the Bendix HF radio, they also don't have the bulges.

    Production

All ADF F-16s are modified airframes. Existing Block 15 models where converted to the Block 15OCU upgrade and to ADF standard at once. In total, 271 airframes, consisting in 246 A-models and 25 B-models have been converted between 1989 and 1992. Minor differences exist between the A-model and B-model as described earlier.

Because of the fall of the Berlin wall in 1989 and the opening of relationships between West and East, the program had lost its major reason of existence, being the protection of the North American continent against Russian bombers flying over the North Pole. Although the program was finished and all aircraft stayed into service with the Air National Guard detachments, they were the first to be mothballed at AMARC with the first major restructuring of the USAF. Beginning in 1994, these aircraft began to be replaced by newer F-16C variants. By 2005, only the North Dakota ANG was flying this variant, with these last examples retired by 2007.

A lot of these ADF F-16s are a very cheap and quite modern asset for allied countries. These aircraft have relatively low flying hours on their airframes. A lot of them are sold on the second-hand market. Jordan was the first to receive 12 A-models and 4-models under the Peace Falcon program in 1997. Most have since been received the Mid Life Upgrade (MLU). Thailand has acquired another batch of 15 A-models and 1 B-model under the Peace Naresuan IV program. Also the Italian Air Force received 26 A-models and 4 B-models under a 10-year lease agreement called Peace Caesar.

    Dan.

Background on the Rivet Haste project:

With the soft (slatted) wing, the pinkie switch (basically the very first HOTAS), and the TISEO modifications for the F-4E, the USAF realized it had the tools to make its fighter pilots more lethal. In the late summer of 1972, the Rivet Haste program was established. Rivet Haste would be the Air Force's acknowledgement that years of substandard training and poor doctrine had to be reversed. Rivet Haste combined the slatted wing, TISEO, and 556 mod of the F-4E and teamed them up with handpicked crews with combat experience over Vietnam. They were assembled at Nellis AFB and here the key of Rivet Haste would take place- intensive training with the new F-4Es against the secret MiG force that Air Force flew out of Tonopah north of Las Vegas. Each Rivet Haste crew were paired up to stay together through training to deployment for combat- this allowed the pilot and his WSO to develop their own system of coordination in the cockpit and carry that to combat. Six pilots and six WSOs were in each Rivet Haste group and each pilot/WSO would fly at least three missions against the MiGs at Tonopah. Each month, a new group of six pilots and six WSOs were assigned to Rivet Haste. Crews assigned to Rivet Haste saw it as a quantum leap in air combat training that the USAF had never had before. Unfortunately they arrived in Vietnam to late to score any air-to air-kills and only flew a handful of Linebacker II missions before the end of the war.

  5. F-4E Phantom update for SF2V Air & Ground War Expansion Pack

F-4E Phantom update for SF2V Air & Ground War Expansion Pack 2.0

    2.0 Updates/ corrections

    - Updated/ corrected F-4E 'Rivet Haste' skins and serial numbers.
    - Early F-4E skin ejection warning triangles replaced with larger early versions.

This mod upgrades the stock Third Wire F-4E Phantoms with the F-4E and F-4E Hard-Wing & MIDAS4 from ravenclaw_007 and Co’s F-4E USAF pack as well as my F-4E_72 ‘Rivet Haste’ add-on for the F-4E USAF pack.

In order to make the two compatible I have changed the F-4E USAF pack Phantoms to mimic the folder and skin structure of the SF2V Air & Ground War Expansion Pack F-4E Phantoms. This means the F-4E Hard-Wing & MIDAS4 is actually in the F-4E_72 folder. This is historically accurate as the TW F-4E_72 is incorrect for the Vietnam conflict as the only slatted F-4E Phantoms in theater where the 555TFS flight of Rivet Haste Phantoms.

Only to be used with the SF2V Air & Ground War Expansion Pack.

    Included:

    - F-4E
    - F-4E Hard-Wing & MIDAS4

  7. F-16XL for SF2 – F-16E Blk 62 Fighting Falcon

    F-16XL for SF2 – F-16E Blk 62 Fighting Falcon 2.1

In March 1981, the USAF announced the Enhanced Tactical Fighter (ETF) program to procure a replacement for the F-111. The program was later renamed the Dual-Role Fighter (DRF) competition. The concept envisioned an aircraft capable of launching deep air interdiction missions without requiring additional support by fighter escort or jamming. General Dynamics submitted the F-16XL, while McDonnell Douglas submitted the F-15E.
As we all know the F-15E was chosen... BUT what if the F-16XL had been chosen instead?
And so I give you the F-16E/F Block 62 Fighting Falcon.
The designation F-16E/F Block 60/62 would have been used had the XL been selected (The F-16E/F Desert Falcon as we know it today wasn't even on the drawing board in the late 80's).

    Included in this mod are:
    - F-16E (XL) Blk 62 Fighting Falcon
    - F-16EM (XL) Blk 62 Fighting Falcon (CUPID mods)
    - F-16EV (XL) Blk 62 Fighting Falcon (AN/APG-83 AESA radar upgrade)
    - 8 different USAF squadrons.

To Install simply un pack and drop into your mods folder.

    Notes:
    - The weapon stations are quite complicated due to the set up on the real aircraft itself and the limitations in SF2 with the maximum amount of hard-points etc. As such it is best to use the default load out from the loadout.ini. That being said if you do want to change it at the loadout screen you need to follow these rules: If the default loadout uses rail launched weapons (Aim-9/120, AGM-65/88) under the inner wings, only change it for another rail launched weapon and vice-versa. This is because the weapon rails are loaded as an EP class weapon that doesn't show up at the loadout screen.
    - The default 'Attack' loadout is designed for the mass anti-armour mission as that is the kind of CAS mission SF2 generates. However in the loadout.ini file under each 'attack' loadout entry is a CAS loadout option with LGB etc.
    - There are a ton of different loadout options in the loadout.ini file so check them out with the single mission editor.
    - Loadouts are based on the F-16C Blk 40/42 but with an F-15E Strike Eagle flavor e.g. AGM-130
    - Shadows are deactivated as 'tractor beams' are an issue as it is an older .lod
    2.1 Changes:
    - Added missing 20mm M61A1 Vulcan (PGU-28) to 'Guns' folder. PGU-28 loads generally don't have tracers.
    2.0 Changes:
    - F-16EV (XL) Blk 62 Fighting Falcon added.
    - Loadout.ini and weapon station fixes.
    - Cockpits changed to Block 42 type with WAR hud as LANTIRN would have been fully integrated on the jet.
    - Ferris test skin added for F-16E (XL) Blk 62 Fighting Falcon.
    - Canopy RCS reducing tinting added as per F-16C/CM Block 40/42.
    - Semi- conformal AIM-120 station position and angles corrected.
    - Internal ECM changed to AN/ALQ-165 Airborne Self-Protection Jammer (ASPJ) as was planned for production aircraft.

Released under the CA fair use agreement.

  9. 'What if' F/A-16C Blk 30/32 CAS Vipers

'What if' F/A-16C Blk 30/32 CAS Vipers

    Background:

In the 1980's, the USAF started setting aside F-16s for the planned A-16 modification, a dedicated CAS version. In 1989, the designation block 60 was reserved for the A-16. The A-16 Block 60 was to be equipped with a 30 mm cannon. This project failed because the 30 mm gun would heat up and singe the inner components of the left fuselage.

The Block 60 did not go into production and the A-16 became wrapped up in the debate about close CAS. The supporters of the A-16 project wanted the USAF to replace its A-10A Thunderbolt with A-16's, arguing that the A-10 was too slow to survive above a high-tech battlefield. Detractors argued that the A-16 had insufficient range and load-carrying capability to make an effective attack aircraft, and, in addition, it would be too vulnerable to enemy anti-aircraft fire.
However the USAF was ordered to retain two wings of A-10 aircraft for the CAS mission. No order for the A-16 was ever placed.

When the USAF was forced to opt for the A-10 instead of the A-16, the decision was made to retrofit up to 400 existing Block30/32 F-16C/D's with new equipment to perform the CAS and BAI (Battlefield Air Interdiction) missions, effectively killing the A-16 program. Modifications would include a GPS, Digital Terrain System, system hardening, modular mission computer, and an Automatic Target Handoff System.

A prototype Block 30 was based at Shaw AFB and went through numerous physical adjustments. Official designation, was to be F/A-16. In January 1992, this plan too was abandoned in favor of using LANTIRN Block40/42 F-16C/D's.

The USAF was reluctant to let the idea of a dedicated CAS F-16 go, and planned to replace its A-10's with F-16s fitted with a version of the Warthog's Avenger cannon. In November 1988, the 174th TFW New York ANG transited from the A-10A to the F-16A/B block 10, becoming the first unit to operate the F-16 in a CAS support role.

During Desert Storm, their F-16A/B aircraft were equipped with the GPU-5/A Pave Claw pod on the centerline station.

If the tests were successful, there were plans for a fleet of F/A-16C's with the same armament. To demonstrate the concept, the AF installed Pave Penny avionics, 30mm gun pods and European One paint jobs on 7 F-16C's. A single F-16D was given similar treatment with a Falcon Eye system as well. These aircraft flew from Nellis with the 'WA' tailcode.

The F-16s from the 174th were deployed to the Persian Gulf during Desert Storm, but the project proved to be a miserable failure. Precision aiming was impossible for several reasons:

    • The pylon mount isn't as steady as the A-10's rigid mounting;
    • The F-16 flies much faster than an A-10, giving the pilots too little time approaching the target;
    • Firing the gun shook the aircraft harshly and made it impossible to control;
    • Essential CCIP (continuously computed impact point) software was unavailable.

Pilots ended up using the gun as an area effect weapon, spraying multiple targets with ammunition, producing an effect rather like a cluster bomb. It took only a couple of days of this before they gave up, unbolted the gun pods, and went back to dropping cluster bombs.

And so the F/A-16C plan was quietly forgotten....

BUT...... What if the project was a success?

And so I give you the F/A-16C Blk 30/32 CAS Viper:

    3 separate aircraft:

    - F/A-16C Block 30 1986- 1993 (1986 Service date makes it NATO Fighters 5 compatible, 1991 would be more realistic.)
    - F/A-16C Block 32 1993- 2003
    - F/A-16CM Block 30 2003+

Unique CAS loadouts including the Pave Claw 30mm gun pods. There are heaps of extra loadouts if you have a look with the mission editor.

All F/A-16C have the Falcon Eye FLIR pod on the nose in front of the canopy. It was slaved to the pilot’s helmet which had a helmet mounted display. Basically anywhere the pilot looked at night he would see the world in infrared. It was also the West’s first HMD with targeting information, weapons cueing, navigation and terrain avoidance ques.

There are Euro-one style skins for the early F/A-16C, the latter blocks two have a mix of normal F-16 camo skins and a lighter ghost grey style like on the A-10.

    To install:

Drop into your C:\Users\xxxxxx\Saved Games\ThirdWire\StrikeFighters XXXXX

Included in the folder 'NATO Fighters 5' is a modified 1986 Red Storm NATO Fighters campaign that includes the F/A-16. It will show up as an extra campaign and not affect any of the NATO Fighters 5 campaigns.

    History

Since the early nineties, the Italian Air Force has eagerly been seeking a replacement for its vintage Aeritalia F-104S Starfighters. Its intended replacement is the Eurofighter Typhoon. Since this program has been running behind schedule for a few years, the Italian air force needed a stop-gap solution. Because the AMI possesses a vast number of Tornado IDS planes, they decided to lease 24 Tornado ADV fighters from the RAF for a 10-year period. This lease ended in 2003 so a replacement was sought. At first the AMI opted to extend the lease period with another 10 years. This proved to be too expensive, so the Italian government turned to the US. The requirement was for a fighter that could perform the air defense mission for 5 to 10 years, until the arrival of the Typhoon.

    Inventory

    Peace Caesar

On March 15th, 2001 the Italian government signed an LoA for a 5-year lease (with an option on another 5 years) of 34 F-16s and four spare airframes, in a deal worth up to $777 million over a 10-year period. The aircraft were delivered between July 2003 and November 2004. In total, 30 F-16A ADFs as well as 1 F-16B ADF and 3 F-16B block 5 & 10's will be delivered. Four more planes will be provided for use as spare parts.

Before delivery to Italy, the aircraft are brought out of storage at Davis-Monthan AFB, Ariz. and transfered to the Ogden ALC at Hill AFB, Utah, where they undergo 220 days of refurbishment and upgrades.

The Falcons are given a complete refurbishment, which complied with all technical compliance-technical orders that have changed since the aircraft was placed in stasis in Arizona. The depot teams at Hill AFB did structural modifications including Falcon-Up, which replaces particular bulkheads and the structural life improvement program, which strengthens holes around the fuel cell panels and wheel wells by compressing the molecules with 30,000 pounds of pressure. The wings were removed and the bulkhead furthest aft that holds the vertical wing was replaced. The landing gear was refurbished and its bulkhead was also replaced.

The flight controls actuators are replaced with new actuators. In addition the computers and instruments that provide the Falcon its technological edge are removed, sent to the appropriate facilities to be tested then repaired if necessary. All equipment that is a time change item and that has less than a full year's worth of service left is changed.

Approximately 100 Italian Air Force maintenance officers, instructors and technicians are receiving F-16 maintenance training at Lockheed Martin facilities in Fort Worth, Texas.

    End of service

On May 23rd, 2012 a disbanding ceremony was held at Trapani-Birgi AFB to mark the disbandment of the resident 18 Gruppo, which was the sole surviving F-16 squadron within the AMI. This marked to end of the service life of the F-16 within the Italian Air Force. This means the AMI is the first air force to fly with the F-16 that phases out the type.

    Modifications & Armament

The planes provided to Italy have a standard ADF configuration. All aircraft receive the uprated Pratt & Whitney F100-220E engine and undergo the Falcon-Up structural enhancement program. It is confirmed that a number of weapon systems will be released to the AMI to be used in conjunction with the F-16s, including the AIM-120 AMRAAM missile,

  11. F-4T Phantom II Air Superiority Fighter - Ghost Grey Phantoms

F-4T Phantom II Air Superiority Fighter 1.0

The F-4T was a late 1970s proposal by McDonnell for a stripped F-4E optimized for the air superiority role. All air-to-ground capability was to be eliminated and associated equipment removed. The armament consisting solely of the built-in M61A1 cannon, the four belly-mounted AIM-7 Sparrow missiles, and the four wing-mounted AIM-9 Sidewinder missiles, or an alternative warload of six AIM-7. A digital computer was to have handled the weapons system.
By the late 1970s, the Phantom was clearly old technology, and no customers ever expressed any interest in the F-4T. The project was abandoned before anything could be built. It was never clear but it was suspected that the proposal had been aimed at a particular potential export customer.

BUT what if the F-4T had entered production, either in foreign service, or to supplement the F-15A, or even as a potential alternative to the F-16A ADF?

And so I give you the F-4T Phantom II Air Superiority Fighter:

    - Base aircraft is the 'F-4E_79 TISEO & ARN-101' from Ravenclaw and co’s awesome F-4E USAF pack.
    - Deleted all air to ground weapons capability.
    - Each inner wing weapon station can carry either 2x AIM-9 or 1x AIM-7 or an ECM pod.
    - Empty weight, empty inertia and stall speed lowered to that of the stripped out Third Wire F-4F. This makes it probably the most maneuverable and best dogfighting F-4 Phantom models, other than the IAF Super Kurnass 2000 prototype.
    - Retained AN/ARN-101 antenna for long range navigation.
    - Retained TISEO for target identification.
    - Higher 'G' HPC center drop tank.
    - Cleaned up the ‘noises’ and shadows on the radar display to better represent the digital filtering of the Digital Scan Converter Group (DSCG) radar display later model F-4E were equipped with.
    - Added Pulse Doppler look-down function to the AN/APG-120 radar, as later model F-4E Phantom’s upgraded with the AN/AWG-10A digital fire control computer had this feature.
    - Changed the gunsight reticle to the green and red colored AN/ASG-26A which was also used on the F-4G Wild Weasel.
    - Ghost Grey Air Superiority camouflage scheme.
    - Changed the fiscal year component of the serial numbers to the late 70's: 77, 78 or 79.

    Included in this mod are:

    - F-4T Phantom II
    - 9 different USAF, ANG and AFRES skins.
    - 7 different USAF, ANG and AFRES squadrons.
    - High resolution Ghost Grey camo F-4E PSD templates
    - F-4T hanger & loading screens

To Install simply un pack and drop into your mods folder.

This is the Mirage Factory F-4E(s) Shablol for SF1 Updated for SF2.

The original 3d model has also been updated with a few corrections such as pylon mounted Chaff/ Flare launchers and the .ini files have had a going over or been totally redone.

The 3d model was updated by Sundowner (who gave permission for this update) and I did all the .ini work

Credit goes to the Mirage Factory for the original aircraft.

    Note:

1, The Shablol was a modified F-4E Kurnass airframe so we have retained a limited ability to carry air-to-ground ordnance however they were not used operationally for anything other than reconnaissance.
2, The radar mode key will bring up the reconnaissance camera displays.
3, The gun sight has been turned off on purpose.

  14. F-39A/B Griffin Blk 1/5 - Gripen NG for the US

Gripen NG for the United States – F-39A/B Griffin Blk 1/5

    1.0

Due to a change in US government policy driven by cost overruns, project delays and negative public (aka voter) opinion the USAF F-35A order is halved. To make up the shortfall a cheaper 4.5 generation aircraft is sought to replace the rest of the F-16 fleet.

New built F-16s are considered but ultimately a license built US specific version of the Gripen NG is chosen. To help offset the loss of the cancelled F-35 order Lockheed Martin is awarded the contract to build the F-39 along with the US specific modifications. The most important of which is full data/ sensor integration and cooperative war fighting with the F-35A fleet.

The USAF designate the US built Gripen the F-39A/B Griffin. The first Block 1 Griffins off the Lockheed Martin production line are identical to the JAS-39E/F and equip CONUS Air National Guard units to replace the F-16 in the air sovereignty role. At the same time Lockheed Martin produce a handful of developmental airframes to integrate the full USAF arsenal of weapons and apply some of the technology from the F-35 program. The probe air-to-air refuelling system is also replaced with a flying boom receptacle. The end result is the F-39A/B Block 5 which is used to replace the F-16 in those USAF units that are not going to be equipped with the F-35A. The Block 5 Griffin is fully compatible with the F-35 and shares the same data link technology. This means Griffin equipped units can be used cost effectively in the low intensity warfare role but when required can be ‘force multiplied’ by the F-35A in a modern battlefield. All Block 1 aircraft will be upgraded to Block 5 standard.

    Included in this mod are:

    - F-39A Block 1 Griffin

    - F-39B Block 1 Griffin

    - F-39A Block 5 Griffin

    - F-39B Block 5 Griffin

    - F-39A Block 5 Griffin Aggressor

    - F-39B Block 5 Griffin Aggressor

    - 14 different USAF/ANG squadrons

    - 22 different skins

To Install simply un pack and drop into your mods folder.

    Notes:

    - The Block 1 aircraft have a reduced weapons capability compared the Block 5 as they can only carry the weapons currently cleared on the Jas-39 Gripin (Aim-9M, Aim-120C etc) this is reflected in the loadout.ini.

    - The pilot is a re-skinned JHMCS model to look like the Cobra HMD that is integrated with the Gripin (see last screenshot below).

    - F-39B Block 5 Aggressor has a cannon even though the two seater doesn’t have one. This is for game play so it will engage you as an aggressor aircraft.

This is a follow on from my "Third Wire MiG-23MLD updated & flyable for SF2" mod and completely supersedes it.

    - All are flyable with a modified version of Stary's MLD cockpit/ avionics with corrections by Crusader and myself. There are slightly different cockpits/ gunsights depending on the model of aircraft.
    - Wing spoilers are now working as they were always there just not activated. Thanks again Crusader!
    - Opening Canopy.
    - KM-1 Ejection seats added. Grey on most but black for Mig-23MLDe, MiG-23P and MiG-23P (82).
    - Loadouts enhanced and corrected. Some Afghanistan specific ones added.  Use of Kh-25M air-to-surface missile and datalink pod added.
    - Missile positions corrected, especially for the AA-8.
    - Single missile rail for the fuselage AA-8.
    - Improved/ corrected FM.
    - Improved engine sound and afterburner effect.
    - All Mig-23 have an ACM/ boresight radar mode but it is set straight ahead along the gunsight and does not move/ scan. The MLD and P (82) have an ACM/ boresight mode that scans vertically like the F-16 or F-15 etc.
    - MLD, MLDe and P (82) have KDS-23 countermeasure dispenser installed in the centreline drop tank pylon. This is a 12 shot chaff/ flare countermeasure dispenser that could be used once the drop tank had been jettisoned.
    - MLD Leading edge flaps automatically deploy during maneuvering as they did on the MLD with the type 3 wing.
    - MLD Primary and secondary roles expanded to reflect the evolution of the MLD into a more multi role fighter platform.
    - Removed ECM jammer from MLD.
    - Radar data and performance is corrected from the S-23MLA radar to the S-23MLA-II radar for the MLD.
    - Most if not all the exported and Warsaw pack ML aircraft were actually MLA models, this is an error in most publications, model kits and flight sims alike and has only been corrected in recent publications. The ML was operated by the Soviet airforce and by the time the export models were being built the production line had switched to the MLA. This is now corrected in the game.
All skins updated with cockpit textures and various other minor details.
    - Grey undersides on Soviet Camouflage skins changed from grey to blue/ grey.  Additional dark green added in to the Soviet camouflage of later model MiG-23s. Lots of other texture corrections done.
    - Skins added for Iraqi, Syria (Late), Polish camouflage, Egypt, North Korea, Libya, Soviet desert (in Afghanistan) and Soviet Afghanistan veterans.
    - Corrections to decal size and/ or positions on various skins.
    - Additional MiG-23MLDe variant created. This is the Syrian and Libian specific export model of the MLD which did not have the IFF or aerodynamic enhancements (vortex generators) of the Soviet MLD and had a slightly downgraded radar. Syrian made countermeasure dispensers installed on either side of the tail fin.
    - Additional MiG-23P (82) variant created. This is the Soviet P model that was upgraded to the same standard as the MLD but without the aerodynamic enhancements.
    - Additional MiG-23M (85) variant created. This is a few squadrons of the Soviet M model that had its IFF upgraded some time between 1978 and the early 90's (Same nose IFF antenna as the MLD and P (82).
    - Additional MiG-23MLD (Soviet-Afgan War) variant created. This is the Soviet MLD but reflects the specific loadouts, modifications, countermeasures and markings of the MLD models that served in the Soviet Afgan war.
    - Updated weapons from the RSSW 099 mod.

    To Install:
1, Delete ALL previous TW MiG-23 mods.
2, Unpack and drop the 2 parts of this download into your main mods folder.

  18. Top Gun A-4F 'Super Fox/ Mongoose' for Strike Fighters 2 (Mk.II)

Top Gun A-4F 'Super Fox/ Mongoose' for Strike Fighters 2 (Mk.II)

This an update and replacement of the A-4 Super Fox I have previously released: http://combatace.com...updated-270111/ HOWEVER, this mod uses the DLC A-4G as the base model as it is an F model Skyhawk but without the avionics hump which is what the Super Fox is.

So this means if you don't have the DLC A-4G this will not work and you should stick to the previous version in the above link. If you do have the DLC A-4G delete the old Super Fox from your mods folder and use this one instead.

This aircraft is the modified A-4 Super Fox/ Mongoose used as an Aggressor aircraft by the US Navy Fighter Weapons School (Top Gun) from 74 till 94. The Super Fox was the ultimate adversary Skyhawk as it was equipped with updated J52-P-408 engine giving 11,200 pounds of thrust. The Super Fox also had its avionics hump and associated equipment stripped reducing its weight and giving it an impressive, better than 1:1, thrust to weight ratio. Other modifications included the wing slats being bolted closed and removal of the cannons.I have retained the countermeasure dispensers as I couldn’t find any information indicating they were removed but with no ECM or RWR I would advise you to avoid being engaged at beyond visual range.Best way to enjoy this bird is to set up a guns only dogfight with the mission editor and go head to head with a few Tomcats.

    Additional Features:

    - 9 different Aggressor skins including US Navy and USMC versions.

    - Cannon barrels have been removed from the 3D model. However the cannons will still fire and I have modified the cannons to be more accurate and more reliable in an effort to more accurately simulate combat with an aggressor aircraft. By this I mean all you needed to do in real life was to get the 'enemy' aircraft in your gun sight and call "Guns kill" so jamming guns or inaccurate cannons weren't an issue so I've stoped it happening in the game.

    - Top Gun Pilot Skin

    INSTILLATION:

1, Delete previous A-4F_Super_Fox from your mods folder.

2, Drop the extracted files in to the appropriate folders.

3, If you have an extracted and modified NATIONS.INI file than add the following to it if you haven't already: (If you haven't, a modified NATIONS.INI file is included)

    [NationXXX]

    Medals=MedalsUSAF.ini
    MedalTextFile=MedalsUSAF.str

Mod Has only been tested/used in a merged install of ALL SF2 titles with the DLC A-4G installed.

Third Wire DLC A-4G available here: https://store.thirdw...e_dlc.htm

Credit goes to column5 for their A-4E Super Echo which gave me the idea and various skins which I updated to work in SF2.

  19. Third Wire Stock F-4E Kurnass Upgrade/ Realism Pack

Third Wire Stock F-4E Kurnass Upgrade/ Realism Pack.

This mod will upgrade all the stock Third wire F-4E Kurnass Aircraft with historically accurate weapon loads, more detailed ejection seats, nuclear weapons capability as well as improvements to the sounds and effects.

    Instillation:

Simply copy and past into your mods folder, you MUST click override when prompted for example the export start year on the stock ALQ-101 is incorrect for Israeli service etc

    Notes:

1, Most bombing and attack loadouts will only have one or two sidewinders for self defense. You will also notice that the bomb on the TER closest to the loaded sidewinder is not loaded. This is exactly how the Israeli Air force did it to avoid clearance issues. Also when the center station MER is loaded with M117 bombs the front center bomb is not loaded. Again this is how the IAF did it the time. If you want to use fully loaded TERs and have four Sidewinders you can simple load them on at the load out screen.

2, Israeli Phantoms stopped carrying the AIM-7 in the late 70s/ Early 80s when the F-15 took over the air-to-air role for the IAF. You will notice this with the loadouts of the F-4E Kurnass 78. Instead of Sparrows a single Python 3 IRM was carried on a specially modified pylon in the right front sparrow bay. Extra chaff and flare dispensers were carried in the rear sparrow bays. However If you want to carry the AIM-7 you can select a loadout with them in the single mission editor (not the loadout screen) since presumably the ability to carry them remained.

Credit goes to Strahi, MGunny 331KillerBee's Ordnance Shop II, Mirage Factory for the sounds and whoever did the updated Mk7 ejection seats sorry.

    Cheers,

  20. Third Wire A-4E/H/F Ahit upgrade/ Enhancement for SF2

This is an upgrade and major enhancement for the stock Third Wire A-4E, H, & F Ahits (Skyhawks). The standard TW Ahits have a few issues with their historical accuracy. This mod corrects those issues and even adds a few more aircraft to the Ahit family.

Instillation: As usual simply drop into your mods folder and allow it to override when prompted. (This is important as there are changes to some of the aircraft.ini files etc)

Strike Fighters 2 Israel plus either Strike Fighters 2 or Strike Fighters 2 Vietnam are required.

    Changes include:

    - The A-4H Ahit was not delivered with a downgraded engine. It had the same J52-P8A engine as the F model Skyhawk. Israel latter upgraded the engines of the H and F Ahits to the P-408A as used in the A-4M and N Skyhawks.

    - The 30mm cannons fitted to the A-4H Ahit were fitted at a 2.5 degree downward angle due to the emphasis the IAF placed on strafing after the Six Day war. However in reality it was less than ideal as there was no change to the A-4 gun sight so aiming proved quite difficult until the introduction of the HUD in the Crystal upgrade.

    - A-4E Ahit was delivered with the avionics hump of the F model Skyhawk. The hump was installed in US Navy service in anticipation of receiving ECM equipment but these aircraft were delivered to Israel instead. Because it was empty the hump was initially removed in Israeli service.

    - The A-4E Ahit was also refitted with 30mm cannons. However due to the problems encountered with the angle of instillation in the H model Ahit they were installed at a 1.5 degree downward angle in the E models.

    - US Emergency Aid Skyhawks: During the Yom Kippur war A-4E as well as A-4F Skyhawks were sent to Israel as replacements for IAF A-4 losses during the war. These A-4E Skyhawks had the same standard of avionics as the F models.

    - Additional early textures added to the A-4H Ahits with the Star Of David on the rear fuselage and two digit aircraft numbers.

    - Additional texture added with the US 'Stars and Bars' and US Navy numbers which the A-4H wore during test flights in the USA.

    - Textures modified so there are no squadron colors on the rudder before 1976.

    - Textures modified so aircraft numbers are not on both the nose and vertical stabilizer at the same time before 1976. Before then the aircraft number was on either the nose or the vertical stabilizer- not both. Where it was largely depended on which squadron operated the aircraft.

    - The hump and corresponding avionics upgrade that appear on the A-4H Ahit (73) and A-4E Ahit (73) were known as the Crystal upgrade. This upgrade was designed to bring the Ahit fleet up to the standard of the A-4N Skyhawk/Ahit so this upgrade also included a basic heads up display with computerized weapons aiming. This upgrade would also be applied to the US Emergency Aid A-4E and F Ahits after end of the Yom Kippur war.

    - The triangular antenna behind the normal UHF/VHF antenna on the hump of the A-4H/E Ahits (73) as well as one of the nose antennas did not appear on the aircraft till the mid 80's

    - Loadouts: the stock Ahit loadouts are not unrealistic but they certainly aren't the most realistic. As such they have all been redone to include things such as the use of the Walleye in the anti-amour role by particular aircraft etc.

    - Opening canopy.

    - Landing light.

    - Cockpit armor changed to the same as the A-4F which the A-4H is meant to based on.

    - Yom Kippur and Lebanon War campaigns edited to include additional aircraft and weapons where appropriate.

The Ahits will now appear in the game as follows:

A-4E Ahit - Delivery of ex US Navy Skyhawks in 1971 fitted with an empty hump, no ECM and no chaff dispenser.

A-4E Ahit (72) - The empty hump is removed in Israeli service, the aircraft are also re-fitted with 30mm cannons at a 1.5 degree downward angle.

A-4E Ahit (73) US Emergency Aid - US Navy A-4E Skyhawks with avionics hump and standard USN avionics rushed to Israel during the Yom Kippur War to replace Ahit losses.

A-4E Ahit (73) Crystal Upgrade - A-4E Ahits upgraded under project Crystal with ECM, RHAW, countermeasure dispensers, updated weapons delivery system, updated navigation system and a HUD. An extended tailpipe is also fitted.

A-4F Ahit US Emergency Aid - US Navy A-4F Skyhawks with standard USN avionics rushed to Israel during the Yom Kippur War to replace Ahit losses.

A-4F Ahit (74) Crystal Upgrade - US Emergency Aid A-4F Ahits are upgraded to the same standard as the project Crystal A-4H Ahits with a HUD, updated weapons delivery system, updated navigation system, 30mm cannons, extended tailpipe and P-408A engine.

A-4H Ahit - Specific model Skyhawk for Israel based on the A-4F with deliveries starting in 1968. The A-4H had a downgraded weapons and avionics capability.

    A-4H Ahit (70) - Aircraft are re-fitted with 30mm cannons at a 2.5 degree downward angle.

A-4H Ahit (72) - Israel begins replacing the J52-P8A engine with the more powerful J52-P-408A and restoring/ expanding the aircrafts weapon capabilities.

A-4H Ahit (73) Crystal Upgrade - A-4H Ahits are upgrade under project Crystal with ECM, RHAW, countermeasure dispensers, updated weapons delivery system, updated navigation system and a HUD. An extended tailpipe is also fitted.

A-4H Ahit (84) Crystal Upgrade - Additional external antenna on the avionics hump and nose of the aircraft are installed.

Instillation: As usual simply drop into your mods folder and allow it to override when prompted.
Strike Fighters 2 Israel plus either Strike Fighters 2 or Strike Fighters 2 Vietnam are required

A-4N Ahit - Specific model Skyhawk for Israel based on the A-4M with deliveries starting in 1972. The A-4N has the more powerful J52-P-408A Engine, larger canopy, HUD and an advanced weapons delivery/ Nav system.

    A-4N Ahit (78) - RWR upgraded

A-4N Ahit (84) - Additional external antenna on the avionics hump and nose of the aircraft are installed.

A-4N Ahit Pave Penny/ LGB - In 1984 some A-4N have their radars replaced with the AN/AAS-35(V) Pave Penny Laser spot tracker and are given the ability to drop GBU-12 and Israeli Griffin laser guided bombs.

A-4N Ahit Pave Penny/ LGB (84) - Additional external antenna on the avionics hump and nose of the aircraft are installed.

A-4N Improved Ahit (Sibat) - Major upgrade of the A-4N in 2005 with a modernised glass cockpit, updated HUD symbology (from the F-16), addition of a Ring Laser Gyro Nav System, plus new Mission and Fire Control Unit.

A-4N Skyhawk ATSI (Grey) - A-4N Ahit (84) Operated but the private company Advanced Training Systems International in the Aggressor role. Two tone grey camo

I have included modified Yom Kippur and Lebanon War campaigns edited to include the A-4N as it was very active in both wars. You will need to have installed my Third Wire A-4E/H/F Ahit upgrade/ Enhancement for SF2 1.0 for the modified campaigns to work correctly.

    http://combatace.com/files/file/14397-third-wire-a-4ehf-ahit-upgrade-enhancement-for-sf2/

    Gameplay notes:
    - Cockpits are stand-ins however all the HUD displays, radar displays, RWR displays are correct.

    - To give the A-4N Ahit Pave Penny/ LGB the ability to use Laser Guided Bombs in the CAS role I created a ghost LP weapon station that can be loaded with a 'Shaldag FAC Laser Designation Team' which is the real life IAF special forces team that designated targets for the A-4N. If you don’t like the way it works just delete it from the weapons folder and stick to dumb bombs for everything except strike missions.

  22. F-35A/B Lightning II International Operators skin pack

F-35A/B Lightning II International Operators skin pack.

National markings are based on the way the RAM compatible markings have been done in real life on the Dutch and British F-35 aircraft.
The squadrons I’ve chosen for the Dutch, Japanese, Royal Airforce and Royal Navy Lightning’s are the ones that will operate the Lightning first for those particular countries. I couldn’t find any information for the rest so I’ve taken an (un)educated guess.

    Includes the following skins:

Also included is a modified pilot skin.

    Instillation Instructions:

-2 Delete any old International skins from your F-35A or F-35B folders as they might have the same name etc.
-3 Extract files then copy and paste the objects folder into your mods folder. Click yes when you are asked to override (required for the new pilot skin).

  23. Third Wire F-8 Crusader Upgrade & Enhancement

This has been a labor of love for my all-time favorite fighter aircraft. The service period of this aircraft fits perfectly with the time period that the Strike Fighters 2 game engine gives its best: Gun armed jet fighters with short range missiles and early/ limited avionics.

    Changes:
    -    The ‘SF2V Air & Ground War Expansion v.2.0 Gold’ and ‘F-8 DATA & LOADOUT v1.0 update’ here at CA were used as a starting point for this project.
    -    Maximum G has been changed to 6.3 which is the airframe structural limit in all NATOPS publications.
    -    There are automatically operating ‘fake’ leading edge droops (slats) that simulates the pilot being able to lower them a few degrees with a button on the throttle for cruising flight and manoeuvring flight (aka dog fighting). By ‘fake’ I mean they are not player operated in SF2 or linked to the 3D model but the aerodynamic effect is realistically simulated. You will notice the droop indicator in the cockpit will change with them however. If they were manually controlled in the game the AI would not use them correctly.
    -    Single AIM-9 missiles and rails can be loaded instead of the Y-racks on all F-8 variants. This is done at the loadout screen (and by the loadout.ini file) it is set up so you cannot load single missiles/ rails and double missiles/ Y-racks at the same time.
    -    Cannons harmonized as per NATOPS manual and gun accuracy adjusted to real world levels.
    -    Adjustment to most decal positions and inclusion of Squadron codes on the wings.
    -    Additional details added to most stock skins.
    -    Additional squadron specific higher resolution skins with more accurate markings for that particular squadron.
    -    Included for F-8J (69) is a proposed SEA camo overpaint for the VF-211 aircraft on detachment at Udorn in early 1972 to school USAF pilots in Dogfighting. The repaint was initially agreed to but it would have added 1200lbs so it was abandoned. If you wish to use it and fly DACT against USAF Phantoms you can load the extra 1200lb at the load out screen via a unique station specific hard point.
    -    Overhaul of each data.ini and avionics.ini to bring them in line with the information in the F-8 NATOPS manuals, NATOPS supplements and F-8 Tactics manual.
    -    More detailed pilots and ejection seats.
    -    Fully compatible with ‘SF2V Air & Ground War Expansion v.2.0 Gold’ or Third Wire SF2V campaigns.
    -    Additional year specific aircraft to better reflect physical and avionic changes. As well as correcting a few mistakes and omissions by Third Wire.
    -    Below is the updated list of F-8 Crusader variants with the original Third Wire description where appropriate and the specific major changes made in addition to the general ones listed above:

    F-8C
The F-8C (F8U-2) entered service in 1959. F-8C is powered by J57-P-16 afterburning turbojet and can reach speed of Mach 1.6.
    -    Missing radar symbology added and radar performance/ parameters corrected. The radar cursor for selecting a target is a long horizontal line that moves up from the bottom of the scope and is only adjustable in range and not azimuth to select a specific radar contact.
    F-8C (66)
In 1966, F-8C received ALQ-51 ECM and chaff dispensers under project "SHOEHORN", after A-4 and F-4 were upgraded. The cannon ammo capacity is reduced slightly to make room for the ECM black box.
    -    Uses the TW F-8D model modified into a F-8C in order for it to have the Y-rack Fuselage weapon rails.
    F-8D
The F-8D (F8U-2N) was the all-weather interceptor version, entering service in 1960. It is equipped with AN/APQ-83 radar and more powerful J57-P-20 engine.
    -    Missing radar symbology added including steering circle, aiming dot, break X and missile max range.
    F-8D (66)
F-8D also received ALQ-51 ECM and chaff dispensers under project "SHOEHORN" in 1966. The cannon ammo capacity is reduced slightly to make room for the ECM black box.
    F-8E
The F-8E (F8U-2NE), entering service in 1962, was the final production version of the Crusader. It is equipped with better AN/APQ-94 radar, and two underwing pylons for air-to-ground ordnance.
    -    Radar frame lock, range and shoot cue lights all completely changed and now function correctly. See screenshot for more information.
    -    Missing radar symbology added including range rate circle, which also doubles as the steering circle, aiming dot, break X and missile max range.
    -    Missile firing order and cockpit weapon station section dial corrected.
    F-8E (66)
F-8E also received ALQ-51 ECM and chaff dispensers under project "SHOEHORN" in 1966. The cannon ammo capacity is reduced slightly to make room for the ECM black box.
    -    Significant use of the AIM-9C as after a lot of research it turns out they were commonly carried over Vietnam in this period, notably by VF-211.
    F-8E(FN)
The F-8E(FN) is the French Aeronautique Navale version of the F-8 armed with Matra R.530 missiles. Nicknamed "Le Crouze" by the French crew, it operated off Clemenceau-class carriers from 1964 to 1994 until they were upgraded to F-8P standard. F-8E(FN) introduced many of the features, such as double-hinged leading edge flaps and drooping ailerons, that were later incorporated into remanufactured F-8J for the US Navy.
    -    Equipped with the nose mounted IRST system like the USN F-8D and E.
    -    This is the TW F-8J model modified into a F-8E(FN) so the DLC is NOT required.
    -    Radar frame lock, range and shoot cue lights all completely changed and now function correctly. See screenshot for more information.
    -    Location of Matra R.530 missile rails corrected.
    F-8E(FN) (70)
    -    The nose mounted IRST system is removed from all French aircraft.
    F-8P(FN)
    -    17 F-8E(FN) are upgraded to extend their service life, included is the Sherloc RWR system.
    -    This is the TW F-8J model modified into a F-8P(FN) so the DLC is NOT required.
    F-8P(FN) (94)
    -    F-8P(FN) are fitted with a GPS navigation system and antenna.
    F-8H
Starting in 1967, F-8Ds were remanufactured as F-8H, with improved AN/APQ-149 radar, ALQ-51 ECM, and the same underwing pylons as F-8E.
    -    Retains the AN/APQ-83 radar from the F-8D but uses the physically larger and higher resolution cockpit radar display from the F-8E.
    -    Missing radar symbology added including steering circle, aiming dot, break X and missile max range.
    -    Radar frame lock, range and shoot cue lights all completely changed and now function correctly. See attached for more information.
    -    Missile firing order and cockpit weapon station section dial corrected.
    F-8H (69)
F-8H is re-engined in 1969 with more powerful J57-P-420 engine. It also has improved ALQ-100 ECM in a larger pod, and full cannon ammo capacity restored.
    -    Improved AN/APQ-149 radar fitted in place of the AN/APQ-83.
    -    Additional missing radar symbology added including separate larger range rate circle and separate smaller steering circle.
    -    A lot of fleet F-8H around this period have had their Nose IRST system (temporarily?) removed.
    -    Retains the ALQ-51 ECM.
    F-8H (74)
    -    After the Vietnam war F-8H has the improved ALQ-100 ECM in a larger pod installed, and full cannon ammo capacity restored.
    F-8J
F-8J is a remanufactured F-8E with improved AN/APQ-149 radar, ALQ-51 ECM, and other improvements such as double-hinged leading edge flaps and drooping ailerons. However, its performance has suffered significantly due to increases in its weight.
    -    Improved AN/APQ-124 radar installed.
    -    Radar frame lock, range and shoot cue lights all completely changed and now function correctly. See screenshot for more information.
    -    Missing radar symbology added including separate larger range rate circle, separate smaller steering circle, aiming dot, break X and missile max range.
    -    Missile firing order and cockpit weapon station section dial corrected.
    F-8J (69)
To restore lost performance due to increased weight, F-8J is re-engined in 1969 with more powerful J57-P-420 engine. It also has improved ALQ-100 ECM in a larger pod, and full cannon ammo capacity restored.
    F-8J (75)
    -    In 1975 the remaining fleet F-8J (along with the RF-8G) receive the ALQ-126 ECM and ALR-45/50 RHAW RWR. The nose mounted IRST system is permanently removed.
    F-8J (75) [w RWR]
    -    Identical to F-8J (75) above except:
    -    The cockpit radar display functions as a Vector RWR and not a radar. This is because in real life the pilot could change the radar scope from displaying radar images or displaying the RWR images. The F-8J did not have a separate RWR display. There was a setting in which it would be displaying radar images but if a missile launch was detected the threat bearing line would be displayed flashing over top of the radar images. Not possible in SF2 unfortunately.

    To install:
1, Unpack and drop into your main mods folder.
    2, Override when prompted.

  24. Top Gun A-4F 'Super Fox' for Strike Fighters 2 UPDATED 27/01/11

Top Gun A-4F 'Super Fox' for Strike Fighters 2

    UPDATED 27/01/11

    - Correct angled refueling probe added along with a landing light thanks to wilco's mods to my A-4N
    - minor data.ini updates
    - Opening canopy 'shift' + '0'

This is the modified A-4 Super F used as an Aggressor aircraft by the US Navy Fighter Weapons School (Top Gun) from 74 till 94. The Super F (Super Fox) was the ultimate adversary Skyhawk as it was equipped with updated J52-P-408 engine giving 11,200 pounds of thrust.

The Super Fox also had its avionics hump and associated equipment stripped reducing its weight and giving it an impressive better than 1:1 thrust-to-weight ratio.

Other modifications included the wing slats being bolted closed and removal of the cannons. However for the game I have kept the cannons and increased the rounds to 200 per gun (same as the A-4M) to give you a bit more dog fighting time :)

I have retained the countermeasure dispensers as I couldn’t find any information indicating they were removed but with no ECM or RWR I would advise you to avoid being engaged at beyond visual range haha.

Included with this aircraft is a Top Gun instuctor pilot skin.

Best way to enjoy this bird is to set up a guns only dogfight with the mission editor and go head to head with a few Tomcats.

INSTILATION: Drop files in to appropriate folders, override when asked to.

NOTE: Has only been tested/used in a merged install of ALL SF2 titles

Credit goes to column5 for their A-4E Super Echo which gave me the idea and provided a base for the skin.

  25. MV-22 for SF2

This is the MV-22B Osprey v2.2 by Zurawski updated for the Strike Fighters 2 Series.

As well as updating it for SF2 I have added a few extra bits:

-The BAE Remote Guardian GAU 17 minigun turret. It can be loaded and unloaded via a dedicated weapons station but can be fired forwards by the pilot only.

-A ‘ghost’ BAE Remote Guardian GAU 17 minigun turret. This the best way I could represent the Remote Guardian turret engaging targets to defend the aircraft. What it is is a gunner station located in the correct position that fires the GAU 17 at any enemy air targets. However there is no 3d model to go with it. So what you get is the GAU 17 minigun turret that you can see and fire straight ahead. When the AI gunner engages a target you will see the muzzle flash and tracer fire coming from mid air in the area where the GAU 17 minigun turret is. If you don’t like the idea of this there is a second data.ini file you can use which will disable the AI gunner.

    -Updated pilot skins

Note: has only been tested on an all game merged vertion of SF2 but should be fine on any individual installs (I hope)

Also make sure you read the original README for flight instructions etc

To install just place files in correct locations and over ride
