  2. Mirror is just a link to an alternative server with the "mirror" image of the file you want. You don't need to touch this if you can get the file from the main link. When the save as box appears save it to a location /folder you can find the file - The desktop is a nice easy place. There are 4 files (parts 1 to Part 4) you need to download initially - I would get them installed in the correct order first before looking at the updates that are also in the SF2 downloads section. The Zip file mentioned above is a compressed file - windows 7 will open this automatically - but you may still need to right click on the zip and extract the files to another location. As a side note - If you are a newbie to SF2 I recommend you play the games in stock format for a while before starting with Mods.
  3. Yeah I had to check out the MiG-9, Yak-15, and Yak-17
  4. Really - which pods on which jets - that's something I haven't seen myself. The first thing I would check is if those pods are defined as ECM pods in the weapons editor - some older 3rd party pods might have had to improvise because I dont think we had stock pods in game for a few years (dont quote me on that). Can you jettison the pods or is it just the AI that does this?
  5. In this game you can probably get away with it if you are carrying AIM-9Ls at a minimum and are not going against a fighter with missiles, or something like a MiG-17F (if on post 2008 patch). If a missile is fired at you or you are going to merge those stores have to be jettisoned - otherwise its suicide, and in RL you can damage/write off the jet by pulling panicked extreme manoeuvres in the heat of battle - another reason to ditch stores. The only way I could see this happen in RL is if the Jet with A-G stores is carrying something like an AIM-120 with standoff capability. Even then in a BVR contest you are at a massive disadvantage against another fighter with similar missiles due to it being largely an energy contest. The AI enemy can give a false impression - fly against a competent human pilot in the same jet online in the 1970s and you will start to see why you need every advantage to survive.
  6. We are - as fitting tribute you could get - he even got a Medal of Honour from the US.

  8. Might be a good idea to tell them what game you have FE1/ + expansion Pack/ Gold / FE2 - also what patch level are you playing at. Downloadable Aircraft can be downloaded and flown by the player or AI no different to the stock A/C. They can also be added to campaigns, you can alter the flight models, skins, decals etc if you wanted to get into that. The campaigns will be what you see in game, you can download other campaigns or make ones yourself - to do that you need to be able to be able to use Notepad. You can switch all the on screen displays off (red/white icons) if you like, and get rid of the red planes on the map too - so you are dependent on the cockpit. Note the white icon is just a waypoint that you can see on the in game map. Things to note on downloading aircraft - ones done for FE1 may need a bit of tweaking to get them working fully with FE2 for example. Also some will have cockpits, some may not, in that case you may wish to use a stock pits instead or you may not depending on how fussy you are - there will be a varying quality as they are created by hobbyists.
  9. Spitfire Mk.9 - Best looking for me. Spitfire F Mk.24 - Final Spitfire - bubble canopy, Griffon Engine, 454mph and 4 x 20mm cannon.
  10. Could be the PSUs not powerful enough - Check the specs for the graphics card and see what PSU it needs.
  11. Jeez - great flying to get that down - not sure I would have got that down in SF2!
  12. Great article - hopefully useful to other newbies
  13. It stands to reason that TW only want the skins relevant to a standalone SF2E install going into the folders. If you want the others you probably have to extract them - but best to check with TW I would say.
  14. Only have a merged install now so get all the skins. That might be something TW have changed - do the Soviets actually use other skins in any of the campaigns? You may need to manually extract other skins if you want to use them now
  15. Is that a standalone install - or is it merged with other games?
  16. She is truly hot - the first for a Royal IMO - glad to see they have changed their inbreeding policy in recent years. How many series of that did they do? we only got 2 series of the original and an Xmas special - pah
  17. Makes 2 - dont worry I cant imagine the majority of the UK gives a toss - but it was nice they gave us the day off. Was in a comedy club last week and they asked if anyone was going to watch it - total silence - obviously I suspect some might watch it - its just not very cool to admit such a thing
  18. interesting - IF that is actually the conversation between the actual hackers then it shows they seem to have a lot of knowledge in certain technical areas and spend a lot of time monitoring network protocols in their spare time. Potentially Sony have not implemented the basics - I have seen worse from other companies though - and yes determined enough groups can find ways around security measures even if it means getting on the inside!
  19. Viewlist.ini is one file that can be changed - you using TIR?
  20. For guns try attacking from above or below - if they are cannon shells it should rip it apart - although if its well armoured in the rear that could be the issue. Look in its data.ini for any armour entries and reduce or remove them. You will need to experiment - although it has a proximity fuse a good hit with an AIM-9P would cause terrible damage (especially to an engine) - not to say it couldn't keep flying in rare cases. One thing to note is that a lot of the heat seeking missiles in this game often go for the rear fuselage and not the heat source - if say from example the engines are wing mounted which is a tad annoying. btw - bigger missiles do more damage because they have bigger warheads
  21. Never heard of it - its not even on amazon!
  22. Despite the label - Its a Block 50:
  23. The model would need to be in a format that can be converted to the format that works in SF - assuming the original author will allow it.
