Hey Guys, hope this goes in the right forum. For some instability issues (being an IT guy) I had to format my PC and all went well until I added the SF Object Exporter (Dec2010-C) where I got the following error: This error (Code Error126) as I found in other forums is due to corruption or lack of some Microsoft Visual C++ Libraries, and it's advised to reinstall it in 32 and 64 bits. Reinstall it was a no-go for me. Tried to reinstall Max and fully clean up the Autodesk footprint, with the same result. So, here I am with the only idea to format the machine again (Windows 11) unless someone here has a better idea. Thanks in advance guys!

To be exactly it was air base Mary-2 (i would prefer to write it Marij, because it had nothing to do with the english girls name Mary). There is a second airbase at this town in Turkmenistan, which is called Mary-1. Mary-2 was the home of the soviet fighter town. The rule was, that the soviets sent entire frontline fighter and fighterbomber regiments (squadrons in western terms) to Mary-2. The regiments got the task to "fight" against the aggressors. This was an contrast to USN Top Gun school, where the task was to "make the best better". The soviets sent all their pilots in, not only the best ones. At the end of the turn, the results of both the individual pilots and the entire regiment were evaluated. I think the photo, which you posted, was taken during a Mary-2 trip of one of the soviet fighter bomber regiments.

btw the first picture shows a "Fitter" aka su-17 swing-wing fighter-bomber. the type way extensively used in Afghanistan, but never for the Soviet "top gun". they used mig-21, -23, -29. cheers sokol

As I understand those were based at Mary. You're right that they were part of Afghan war fighter-bombers.

This marking is a personal marking, not soviet Top Gun. I think it is from Afghanistan campaign or in the late days of Soviet Union. The soviet Top Gun marking looked so:
