  2. let me reccomend some light reading for tonight. it will help you enjoy the game and this site better. for the SF2 otherwise known as Gen 2 stuff https://combatace.com/forums/forum/268-thirdwire-strike-fighters-2-series-knowledge-base/ for basic modding (that includes just adding stuff from here) https://combatace.com/forums/forum/99-thirdwire-strike-fighters-knowledge-base/ modders vary in how they upload. some include everything you need, some dont. some give detailed directions, some dont. of course some end users also dont read the detailed instructions. this mod was one of the less simple ones so i figured i'd help. the above links and all the threads within should help you be able to trouble shoot on your own
  3. guessing that your using viper63's pack, add this to your pilots folder FakePilot.7z the fake pilot trick doesnt work without a copy of the fakepilot. its how other parts are added onto completed models (like the canards)
  4. but you are an active modeller at the moment. thats a very big statement these days, and i for one thank you for stayin active in this old sim
  5. well, its CenUS folder and MidWest USA. plugged straight in from a copy of the mod folders on the semi retired laptop. was unaware of any other Midwest terrain. but presuming its yours, and if you ever retool it, the city is so damn close to Midway when i flew out in April i could see faces in cars going by . iirc, couple years back there was an accident where an airliner overran the runway, through a wall and into traffic! mandatory screenie
  6. its not buzzing the tower, its doing a height check on Sears Tower to the top of the building itself is 1450 ft so not too bad having messed with Midwest terrain for first time in years, gotta say, Midway is scrunched up as far into the city as the game will let you. its o'hare thats out in the boonie.
  7. nice thing about SF2: it gives everyone to do what they want with their version(s)
  8. well, it was Centurion's work before he zonked off the internet completely. i sort of took over after no progress for like 6 months and packaged what we had to release. the antennea could be added via fake pilot; but finding someone with the time and interest is the issue. the few active modelers left have plates, tables and stove burners full at this time mandatory screenie, or hot doggin in the Canal Zone
  9. mentioned it else where, will mention it here too. good pits for the A-6. not the hidden stuff lurking in the archives. a new, working pit for at least the basic A/B/E models. SWIP and TRAM would be nice if a modeler wanted to go down those rabbit holes TK, if your lurking and reading this, pits for your stock non flyables as the 3x series DLC. would probably take care of funding woes with each one released better than a go fund me.
  10. "well, i know its a combat sortie, but you might as well get some pattern work in too before we debrief. after all this bird is based on a trainer"
  11. OK, from the book Century Jets( itself a compilation of AIRTime Publishing magazine articles). the prgramme, called Thunderstick II, applied to D and F models. it involved installation of AN/ARN-92 LORAN and put solid state components in the NASRR radar system, now being designated R-14K. with these systems a Thud pilot could reasonably expect a CEP of +/- 50 ft from and altitude of 15000 ft they were easily distinguishable by teh large dorsal spine to house the LORAN and Doppler equipment. at least 30 d models were modified. although designed to help the crews in Southeast Asia, none of the Thunderstick II aircraft left the US. they were assigned to the 563d TFS, 23d TFW at McConnel AFB KS; then transferred to the 457th TFS (AFRES) at Carswell AFB TX remaining until 1980 when they were replaced with LORAN equipped F-4Ds NIELS top pic would be the 563d TFS, his bottom pic would be the 457th. dig a little deeper into pics on google, as Guard/Reserve units tend to change fin colors by flight (four aircraft) rather than squadron (18-24 aircraft) like the Active duty folks
  12. straight strike. in all things, think of the Thud then as you would a 2001 Nissan Sentra with 250,000 miles on it. you will drive it if you have it and its paid for. you might not carry a couch the next town over or street race it on a saturday night. but it will carry some load around town and the A/C will work if youre lucky. thats the state most of the Thuds were in after 1973, single seat or Weasel. the Weasels got better upkeep given their active duty mission. but probably advisable not to be pulling CAS or even fast FAC Its just our Uncle Sam has more money to keep things running than most folks do. so they were kept flyable until the next generation came online
  13. could ask Erik to make an archive section in the downloads section though. keeps the older stuff out there, but more for research purposes for the modders. there are several aircraft and other files that are duplicated with the newer and older releases. if nothing else it would cut down search time to put the older ones into the Jedi archives
  14. agree with the other Kevin Vietnam wiped out half the production run in losses, and pretty much broke what was left. thats why by the early 70s most were in the Guard and Reserves, except the Weasels. they went there too once enough F-4Gs were available (to GA ANG to be specific) pretty much it was not worth the investment to upgrade to any newer weapons or systems, and they got used until they had enough new stuff to replace them
  15. ok. then maybe share your trick so that we can get a new modder started down the path. dont just shush him over his question because the new one is better. true. but i havent played it much period since january, am busy with RL and setting up installs on my new computer (cherry picking from huge installs into many more but era/region focused installs). i had forgotten about that and also didnt do much menu related work. plus most of what i did was on my main SF2 install, then transferred at the end to you and my 30AE install. i just fired up first time in a month, and oh yeah, it does that. its one thing to see the feature in action though, another to know whats going on behind the scenes. decalling is the simplest thing to me, yet we have at least 1 question a month on how they work. i try not to get mad at them anymore, but point out where they can learn if basic knowledge, and answer if something not so basic. The work done on 30AE is amazing and has many things that advance the game, between guruu's helicopter work (and fastest carrier made iirc) to your menu work and much much more. it doesnt just enhance the 30AE mod itself but has potential the entirety of the community.
  16. well, if ODS30AE the secondary test crew (also known as an end user) has found something the primary has not. whether its specific to them and their system or a general issue is another question to actually read the post its not clear which he is talking about, while he doesnt say the 30AE edition many people would just shorten to ODS. yes, its not correct but thats how most people in the world do. im inclined to believe he's talking the new version given all he praise he gives it and the flying over Iran in April mention. but it doesnt say for certain, even to say new or old and theres no need to be offended by questions like this. once its out, people are going to tinker with it to make it to their particular taste. everyone starts somewhere, whether its adding a decal to look more like real life or altering dates. those small steps (and the support or lack of the person gets) can be the difference between someone that becomes a new modder in our very small community or someone that talks about how SF2 is old and dated. the difference between tinkering and modding is the experience level nice bit incorporating First Eagles into SF2 though. i see quite a few things and thought it could be done, but couldnt remember where id seen it
  17. sorry to get your hopes up. i have seen aircraft data inis with specific dates in them before. i was thinking that maybe getting specific could force it, but looking closer im seeing that entry is ServiceStartYear too. so those specific dates probably dont do squat in either instance. again sorry bout bad info for the question above yes on choosing load mission for what you edit. i do it all the time when testing things other than skins and decals. things like B-52G_Strike_17011991, KC-135E_Recon_12121990 etc. you can be very specific on waypoints for everyone, loadouts, altitudes, force compostion etc. also yes on it locks in what you're up against. i do it to eliminate enemy opposition (no fun checking nav lights or a weps load out if you keep having "a bandit on your six o clock") but what ever you load is whats popping up every time you load. again, useful for me to a point. but it can get boring seeing teh same thing over and over.
  18. sure they are. more realistic (and scaled down opfor) versions of the range terrains. but this time with NYC! theres training ranges and military operating areas all over the country. ok, not as much in the northeasten part, but in the midwestern part and Carolinas there sure are (eyeballing your map there) hell, i just watch 4 Strike Eagles from Seymour Johnson go over my house today. them and Ospreys out of New River are fairly regular visitors. it would be nice fly out of those bases (and more!) in game.
  19. ok, it wont take letters very well, so no January in the options ini its traditionally just teh year (StartYear=). but try doing it in a numeric format, like i did above. and if you dont want a VERY short campaign i would put that date in the start year area,
  20. sorting through old folders, found this bird. whoever has it (and you know who you are), it'd be a lot cooler if you released it
  21. sorry to hear youre not able to sim and mod, but good to hear from you
  22. could have been unit markings painted on jpeg. which would be one half of a bumber number set, like say SVC 1/6 FA 1ID. but for thee second half (other side, or the serial number we cant put in) you would need the vehicles id, like SVC 605, or 605T for the trailer or 605W for the water buffalo. surely not from real life examples
  23. why make it that easy? go for it GKABS. but name it EVILGDAMMEDCOMTRACK and give it Armor=100000000000000
  24. for game purposes this is awesome its a shame we cant put serial number decals on the ground vehicles like on aircraft and even ships. not only could we put unit bumper numbers on them, but we could mismatch some of the canvas and fuel cans, just like IRL just another limitation to live with...
