4 pointsin 1988, CINC TAC directed the USAF Thunderbirds to execute their congressional mandate to be able to revert to combat status within 72 hours. the Thunderbird maintainers were able to execute everything except repainting in the usual grey colors within the timeframe. a series of sorties was then run to demonstrate the aircraft was in fact combat ready. the aircraft used was unofficially named Warbird, after some unknown soul wrote that in the dirt from teh gun gasses (better than "wash me!") or as someone commented in a present day article, " imagine the inbound JDAM being preceded by a four ship diamond burst!"

SF2 Green "Not Desert" Terrain Pack 8/23/24 == For SF2, any and all, but Full 5 Recommended == *** Your mod folder(s) =MUST= have, or access to, the stock Desert terrain, as many items are referenced from that stock terrain cat. *** Once upon a time, in the early 2000s, one of our first terraformers, Deuces, released a "Euro-Desert". Basiclly, retiled to a more lush green environment. This is my contribution in that vein. This terrain is designed to be FUN, and perhaps more than a little silly. As can be expected, there are Easter Eggs (tm) EVERYWHERE. This is a revamp of the stock 3rd Wire "Desert" terrain. It has gone through a somewhat extensively large rebuild (tile-wise), being retextured to a more cooler climate (see Notes) Large amounts of "eye candy" have been added to the airports, cities and other military targets. Ports have been upgraded with buildings, docked ships and other maritime goodies. The movement ini has also been modified, with additional and/or re-plotted routes. Be advised, that the original Desert campaign(s) MIGHT work, as I kept "things" as close as possible to the original, with the exception of FINALLY naming the tiled city regions in the southwest of the map that had never been touched since the 2003 initial release of SFP:1. However, I cannot gar-un-tee any of the existing stock or user made campaigns will work on this modded terrain; Be Advised! I've supplied a great number of Ground Objects (many of which you may already have), but you'll want to double check them after unzipping, to make sure you have everything before installing. Meaning: not everything has been supplied. Ground defenses (AAA & SAMs) use the generic tags (SAMLauncher, SAMRadar, etc), so there should be no problems with the Game Engine (tm) using what's in your Mods Folders. With Ground Objects in mind, this terrain has the usual minimum year spread from 1945 through (at least!!!!) 2050. There are NO mission restrictions, excepting Naval Action (no CVs!!). When 'in game', on the terrain selection drop down, you'll see NotDesert (Green) Select it, and play normally. As is always recommended, unzip to a temp folder or your desktop to give easy access to the rest of this readme for it's install instructions. PLEASE READ THEM!!! It should be noted, you might (ok, WILL) experince longer than normal loading times on this terrain. It's because of all stuff I found I needed to include when (re)building it. Also, PLEASE read the "Notes" section for more data on the astronomical, geophysical and climatic conditions of this "region". Good Hunting! Wrench Kevin Stein -

1 pointEven if the entire state is the living embodiment of the song "Uneasy Rider" and the combined IQ of the state's population is 3 degrees less than the melting point of ice, these are some damned fine skins. (FYI, I grew up in MS) As for the CA skins, I'll be humming "California Dreaming". And having been to Offutt, that was easy: "We Gotta Get Out Of This Place"

1 pointMore 1979 scenario test using the resources provided by Viggen that made the whole thing immensely easier. Just got delayed cuz new job but I really want to see this completed with as few bugs as possible for an optimal experience. It will serve as the template for the 1989 scenario initially planned. (sadly i'm starting to like the '79 scenario cuz more Aircraft variety and Royal Australian Navy aircraft carrier lol!)

1 pointMany thanks for the info! I saved them for training sorties~ I agree with your comment on the game being philosophical. Maybe there`s such an aspect since the beginning of the franchise, as I remember someone commenting that TK is somewhat inspired by Area 88 anime to make the SF series. Sometimes when I duel with flaks in SF2 to take out a foot bridge (not exactly a duel in any sense because there are so many of them firing at you without any decency or mercy), I ask myself if it is wise to be there trying so hard, thousands of miles from the white picket fence of home, trying to blow up several agitated, perhaps brainwashed youngsters who are brought up so cheap by the "one more child, add one more bowl of water (not even rice!) to the rice pot" attitude and considered as much more expendable than the weapon system they operate, with a million-dollar jet and my own life, by means of unguided bombs and rockets and cannons that actually could give me little if any edge over these enemies despite all the great value assumed of my jet and myself. SF Nam do give moments like this, and thus give us some insights into people who fought there. As many of us, now and due to recent affairs, are beginning to see that Kennedy was more or less right about certain factions in the world always trying to conquer Earth in a domino game of bloodbath if left unchecked, and about checking such unhealthy ambitions requires not only lofty words but also willingness to become "bogged down" boots on ground and make the ultimate sacrifice in mortal, unsung combat, SF may provide a chance for us to not only look into the endurence and vulnerability of humanity, but also appreciate more the aviators who daily went up north into a man-made-hell. Back to SF tactics, I usually fly Hi-Lo-Hi and drop to the deck entering or leaving NV airspace just beyond effective range of the SAMs. As you said, having no RWR is a major concern, and I have to assume that every SAM launched is launched for me. I do have experiences of SAMs exploding several thousand feet behind and slightly above me when going feet wet. The AI SAM operators never happen to look the other way or become drowsy, and this also makes the seconds of pulling up looking for TGT the most nervous for the whole mission, as keeping 450 or 500 knots won`t do you any good against SAM, and I have to split-S quite often to the extent that if they make it an Olympic event you`ll probably see me there. The MiGs are much less a concern once you learn when to extend and control the engagment... I abhor all soviet AAA, they are simply Evil, especially when compared with the feeble quad .50s on blue air bases~

1 pointI have Deuces' all rebuilt for SF2, if there's any interest. The only things I changed are updating the data ini statements with SF2 statments (shaders, etc), and 'squaring off' those shity port tiles, and adding the 2 stock ships (cargo ship & tanker). I did add a few hangars to some of the airfields, but otherwise is 'as issued' in 2002 (ish)
