Damn, I don't even wanna imagine the place-holder entries in the graphics DLLs. Thanks for the clarification, Fubar512.

SF2 F-16C/D Block 60 Fictional USAF Squadrons.
Menrva replied to Viper63a's topic in File Announcements
I hope Uncle Sam follows your what if, viper63a! I know the F-16 is getting old, but it deserves some attention, it was/is one of the best multirole fighters that history ever witnessed. Oh, and BTW, nice mod as usual, keep up the good work, mate! -
Stary, other damned questions, sorry, it's stronger than me ; can you explain how the new cloud layer thing works (I see it's listed in the types .ini)? Can it be easily implemented in other terrains? I guess so. Moreover, does the WeatherData stuff you added working or does it nothing? IIRC it's some of the unused statements in the DLLs, right?

Fubar, have you tried all of them? Indeed they are placeholders, but it's worth a try. KJakker, are there other unused statements in the other DLLs?

Thank you very much, KJakker.

Thanks for the quick response, I'll be looking forward to this mod, it seems very promising and refreshing.

Multiple Naval Task Forces Question
Menrva replied to allenjb42's topic in Mission & Campaign Building Discussion
The fact that these two ships generate amphibious groups at almost fixed distances unlike addon ships, as you stated, makes me wonder. Maybe there is a parameter in the .ini files which controls this behaviour, or maybe the whole thing is controlled by the .exe, so no chance of correcting this 'bug' easily. -
Well, my main bottleneck is adding rivers and hand tiling the whole terrain with the TFD Tool (TW's Terrain Editor autotile function messed up the whole terrain, so I'm doing it the hard way). Don't worry, Stratos, I got this anyway; just yesterday I managed to add some rivers in Iran, and I quite enjoyed it seeing the result. I appreciate the fact that you'd like to help, but as of now I'd like to work on this on my own. Whenever I need some help, I'll call you with no hesitation, thank you very much. In other news, I'll be busy updating the terrain as stated above, by the end of the next week I'll release some screenshots of the progress that is made.

Looks really good, I like it. The shape of the terrain reminds me of the stock fictional Desert terrain, which is in reality Mozambique but turned 90° degrees.
-
Very nice work, mate. Regarding the new tiles shown in the screenshot, any chance they could be used in a SF terrain? There is a Spain terrain in the SF2 download section, IIRC. It could use a specific tileset like the one above, however as you said I'm worried about stretching issues, since generally SF terrains use a size of 2000 in the Terrain Editor, while FE's use a size of 500.
-
Well, truth to be told I haven't checked them while flying on the terrain, I just noticed the file, and obviously I thought it was an easter egg. I told Stary to add the .ActiveYear=2008 statement to each of them, since it would be very strange to see them in the 50s, unless we have a time machine that is, LOL

Yes, I am using the coordinates above. I was asking about the terminal because I have failed to find it in GE satellite images.
-
IIRC Do335 made some small changes in the targets.ini, probably changed runway shape (changed runway2 to a runway3, for instance) of some airfields to better reflect the real world counterpart.

Stratos is just making his own tileset IIRC, while using the original .HFD of the terrain released by Wrench, that .HFD is unfortunately geographically wrong, damaged let's say. So I decided to correct all the geographical inaccuracies, I created a new .HFD while depicting the area of the original terrain. I've been correcting the locations of countless targets and added more transition tiles (202 tiles in total atm), so I hope this is going to be the definitive terrain. As far as I can tell everybody is using the same .HFD atm, while I'm working on a completely new one (correct altitudes, Caspian Sea coast manually tiled according to satellite images and so on) In other news, does anybody know the exact location of the Mina-al-Bakr Oil Terminal? Today it shoud be known as Al-Basrah Oil Terminal, as the Yanks decided to rename it after 2003. I've been looking all over the internet, still no precise info.

Thanks, krfrge. I'm really looking forward to your beautiful terrain, keep up the good work!

I tried it and it looks awesome. I have a question; no more city tiles? I have no problem with that, but this limits the proper terrain usage to the 50s or so, while the Korean terrain could be useful for some Strike Fighters what ifs. I know, you lost interest in the post 60s era, don't worry it isn't a request. Second, I have a little important suggestion. Wrench added interesting easter eggs in mainland China, however it is in my opinion more suitable that they appear from the year 2008 and later. The reason is self explanatory; just find these lines in the targets.ini: Target[XX].Type=Beijing8 Target[XX].Offset=XX,X Target[XX].Heading=XX And add the following: Target[XX].ActiveYear=2008

ModelCanopy.FX is a stock SF2 file, don't worry Gatling20. Stary added the common .tga files that come with some addon aircraft, so now they have a proper canopy shader applied.
-
Ha ha, indeed! Poor F-18 pilots...
-
My bad, Stary, it works now. I have the bad habit to remove comments from the .ini files, most likely I messed something up.
-
Thanks for the info, Wrench. I once tried TW's Terrain Editor with the function Adjust Sea Level, it worked great on another WIP map of mine, although as the name implies it works only for the sea areas, IIRC. I'll have to ask Centurion-1 about the tileset then. However it seems he is not around here recently.
-
Thanks Stary. I've just put these updates in my mod folder, and started the game. I decided to fly a Sabre over your new Korea tileset, but I noticed that the Sabre had no gunsight in the cockpit (it does have it however in the cockpit.ini). Is it possible that it has something to do with the gunsight material properties which you have changed in the AIRCRAFTOBJECT.INI (yes, I've opened it, I'm curious)?

Thanks guys! I'll use this thread to keep you posted about it. I'll see what I'll do in the next days, probably I'll start adding the damned rivers in Iraq. Stratos, keep working on your terrain repaint, mine one is still in the works and will be for a long time, I think, due to RL. Moreover, my new transition tiles use a mixture of Centurion-1's and JSF-Aggie's tiles, so I'd need their permission to use their work first, before releasing anything.
-
Who needs DCS World? Seriously the level of detail of this tileset is so high that I will stare at the terrain, rather than flying over it. Wonderful job as always, Stary!

Here's my progress on the complete map revamp so far. I've spent the last days making over 40 or more transition tiles, and hand-tiling the Caspian Sea, the Caspian Sea coast, Lake Urmia, Lake Van and some of the snowy mountain peaks. Still a lot to do though, don't pay attention to the blue dots inside The Wall, those are placeholders.. Zagros Mountains Tehran Caspian Sea and inland Lake Urmia Lake Van, Turkey
