3 points21 August 1961, Edwards AFB The first intentional supersonice flight by an airliner. A DC-8-43 flown by Douglas test pilot Bill MacGruder dives from 50000 ft and breaks the sound barrier for approximately 16 seconds at around 41000 ft. Mainly to demonstrate that the DC-8 was in fact strong enough to do so. The aircraft was pending delivery to Canadian Pacific airlines, but still on the Doouglas books at teh time of the flight.

1 pointDouglas A-24 Banshee - 9 Squadron, Royal Dhimari Air Force, 1941 Skin Credit: Charles Wow! I've just read that USAAF A-24's survived long enough to be transferred over to the USAF in 1947 who abandoned the 'A' for Attack designation so they became F-24 Banshees!

1 pointI don't think there is an updated one. I've never seen nor heard one being worked on. Maybe Gepard will do one, who knows.

1 pointIf it is a problem with the cockpit model, maybe it could be fixed, if a 3d guy is willing to help. If it is an Problem with the aircraft model, it can´t be fixed cause Enrico lost his source file & he left years ago SF modding.

1 pointAviation History magazine (iirc) had an artilce of them some years back. Rex's Hangar ALWAYS has something cool!! He's got a new series on the Douglas Aircraft Co. Some of the images are from the Santa Monica location; I grew up in it's shadow. There's one shot of a DC4 coming in to land at Cloverfield, and it's looking at the farm fields where my parent's house will be built in 1954!!! Very cool stuff!!!

1 pointOn April 29, 1975, South Vietnamese Air Force Major Bung-Ly made the decision to load his family -- his wife and five children -- into a small two-seat Cessna O-1 Bird Dog airplane. Bung-Ly took off from Saigon and made it out to sea, where he looked for a ship to land on and spotted the USS Midway.
