Madagascar, Southeast Africa (1977-2018) Terrain December 13th, 2017 (1st Release) by Menrva >For Strike Fighters 2: Europe, Recommended Full-5 Merged This is a complete remake of the AE terrain made by Deuces and Dave, further tweaked by Wrench. The entire map has been retargetized and extensively retiled; Mozambique is now a lush green jungle, not a barren desert as seen in the original. The Comoros and Mayotte islands now properly exist and are carefully populated by towns and airports. Numerous target areas have been added in order to expand playability, targets of opportunity and year range. This terrain features a fresh new 250m resolution heightmap (instead of the stock 500m resolution), allowing for greater details and precision in elevation changes; overall it provides the whole terrain with a better look. The terrain spans from May 30, 1977 (the beginning of the Mozambican Civil War) to December 31, 2018. Despite the given time frame, this terrain is not right for reproducing the Mozambican Civil War. Instead, the terrain is meant to pit the French Navy against the combined forces of Mozambique and Madagascar in a what if scenario where the Comoros and Mayotte islands are being threatened by the two Soviet-aligned countries. The French (Blue Side) only have four flyable airfields. Don't even try to fly Blue Side long-range bombers from said small airfields; I am providing a rather realistic representation of the area, where the French are tasked with the defence and patrol of the skies above the Comoros and Mayotte islands. Having SF2NA is a must, as I have enabled naval ops. If your mod's folder contains French ships and carriers, you'll see fleets being generated during single missions. Ground Objects are not included. It's up to the user to find and obtain anything that can be useful for the proposed terrain's scenario. >Credits (in no particular order): -Deuces and Dave, who had the idea of recreating such a gorgeous environment in the Strike Fighters world. -Wrench, who kindly allowed me to improve upon his work by giving me a blank cheque and trusting my capabilities. Thank you, sir! -swambast, who provided me with invaluable help in tracking and fixing common and uncommon bugs. -gerwin, whose TFDtool has proved to be essential in today's terrain making. If the terrain is pretty accurate to RL it's also because of him. I included his very nice Airfield 7+8 Addon Pack, too. -mue, for the improved shaders he made, which I have included and reworked for the terrain, and for the tools he made for SF2 modding. -luk1978, for the waternormal bitmap he shared at the SF2 screenshots thread. Your mods are very interesting! -MigBuster, I have included some of his great hi-res textures for runways. -Stary, for the old .TOD mod which adds trees on this terrain's tileset. -Gepard, for his great tutorials about terrain making, in the SF1 Knowledge Base at CombatACE. It's a gold mine! -tiopilotos and Stratos, who supported me during the terrain's development. Thank you, guys! -krfrge, who has produced a tutorial for recreating SF2-like planning maps, which prompted me to work on templates and my own high quality planning maps. Thank you very much! -comrpnt, for his Approach and Airfield Lighting Pack mod packages for SF1 series, which I reworked and included. Because the original terrain was born from Deuces and Dave, and was later tweaked by Wrench, I included the ReadMe files from the original packages, to the end of giving proper credit to everyone involved directly or not. >Disclaimer: This is a freeware; yet it can be redistributed ONLY in other CombatACE mods/mod packages. Any changes to the terrain package's files and/or any copy-and-paste attempts of their contents are NOT authorized if you plan to release them in other mods. But permission might be granted to those who request it to me at CombatACE. This terrain may NOT in any way, shape or form be used in any payware additions. -
1 pointNow for a quick look at an F-16 flight combat simulator you may have heard of, in particular the only version of Falcon 4.0 currently in development. Benchmark Simulations official add on to Falcon 4.0 is called BMS 4.33 (currently upgrade 4) and to use you need to buy the original 1998 Microprose Falcon 4.0 from places such as GOG.com and then install that first. Then you install BMS 4.33 after downloading via the torrent from the BMS web site. Now if you are lucky you perhaps played the original or one of the other versions, or even the other official release Falcon 4.0 Allied Force from 2005 (that I will confirm BMS most certainly DOES NOT work with). However if you have not, you will be starting a learning and somewhat challenging journey, which is about what these types of things are all about after all. Things like the Avionics go very in depth and 4.33 brought with it a Maverick Handoff procedure with the targeting Pod that will make grown men cry – although I am not entirely sure a certain defence contractor couldn’t have made it easier if they had tried! You might also have noticed the Avionics Configurator option on the splash screen that already caters for about 40 different versions of the F-16. That’s right if you are not familiar with F-16s then erm well even a Block 50 for example has different versions with different avionics and capabilities depending on the year (upgrades) and the country it was sold to and this is impressively catered for. I will have a Block 30 with GE-132 and go faster stripes please Although Falcon BMS does still trounce all in its path in certain aspects I am going to briefly start on one of the less impressive parts of Falcon, that being the visual environment. Despite its 1998 origins, limitations have been progressively overcome to improve this area also. BMS 4.33 Came with many new ground and air objects as well as a new terrain set with trees by Polak. Like Strike Fighters there are some very talented individuals who have spent years providing professional level mods for free. I will give mention to Falcon Legend JanHas (http://www.janhas.net/) who has been around for…ever it seems. Real credit to the guy and rest be assured every rivet is polished to perfection to provide models as good as or better than anything else. His mods also come with comprehensive install documentation – and yes you do need it. New afterburner flame most welcome Installing mods is not as easy as Strike Fighters, there are bits you copy and paste but the models still need LodEditor to install them. Having just installed pretty much all of the JanHas mods I can tell you that despite it looking complex initially you are just pressing buttons and changing a few numbers at the end of the day so after the first few it becomes pretty easy – just time consuming having to do it manually. Why are these mods not in the baseline install making my life easier? - Well the reason is I have read that BMS have certain standards they keep to so it still runs on lower spec hardware. After a Herculean effort to get the mods installed! Also as with Strike Fighters, Modders have created different theatre’s for Falcon 4 over the years including the middle east, Balkans and Germany (Ostsee by TomKatz) that even makes an attempt to populate the terrain with well placed 3D buildings. So there you have it, graphical improvements have been slow because it requires good samaritans with free talent with free time, but it’s always nice to see there has been progress in that area. I have not mentioned the internal view because that is already more than good enough, especially considering most of a campaign is where I’m at anyway!

1 pointProgress on the Bleriot will be slow because it presents an unusual challenge. Sorta/kinda on the subject, I've found two things of interest. 1) The Mondragon semi-automatic rifle, designed in Mexico, was used in limited numbers by all combatants in the early days of aerial combat before machine guns became common. 2) Gterl's superb maps feature detailed shadows when run in FE2.

SF2 MiG-23 & MiG-27 Floggers - Part 2 This mod supplies a collection of MiG-23 & MiG-27 Floggers, created by ArmourDave and The Mirage Factory, and heavily modded by Lindr2 for SFP1. (These are not mods of the 3rdWire Floggers supplied in the SF2 titles.) All have been converted and updated to SF2 standards. Also included with this mod are all the weapons, sounds, pilots, and seats that you will need to install and use any of the aircraft supplied with this mod. This mod consists of three parts: Part 1: 1st Generation MiG-23s (MiG-23S, Mig-23M, MiG-23ME, MiG-23MF, MiG-23MF, MiG-23UB) Part 2: 2nd Generation MiG-23s (MiG-23ML, MiG-23MLA, MiG-23MLAE, MiG-23P, MiG-23PD, MiG-23-98, MiG-23UM) Part 3: Ground Attack MiG-23s (MiG-23B, MiG-23BN) & MiG-27s (MiG-27, MiG-27D, MiG-27K, MiG-27M, MiG-27ML) Each of the three parts includes all the decals, pilots, sounds, effects that you will need for the aircraft in that part. This is the second part. The WEAPONS are contained ONLY IN THIS PART -- THE 2ND PART. These aircraft can be used in SF2, SF2E, SF2V, or SF2I. To install and use them, you should ensure that your SF2 installation is patched to at least the Dec2009 patch level. See below for installation instructions. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Installation ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Please note that installation of these aircraft will overwrite & replace the default 3rdWire versions included in the various SF2 titles. I recommend that you first REMOVE the 3rdWire MiG-23 and MiG-27 versions - even if you haven't modded them -- before installing these alternate versions. To install, simply drag the following folders to your SF2 Mods Folder (NOT the folder that the game installs to): \Effects \Flight \Objects \Sounds By default your Mod Folder should be located here: Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\[username]\My Documents\ThirdWire\[Game]\ Windows Vista: \Users\[username]\Saved Games\ThirdWire\[Game]\ Windows 7: \Users\[username]\Saved Games\ThirdWire\[Game]\ ...where [username] is the account you log into within Windows and [Game] is the name of the particular game mod folder that you're moving the files to. If the aircraft are not showing up in your Single Mission Aircraft menu, then you didn't install all the bits correctly. And remember, the WEAPONS are contained ONLY IN THE 2ND PART, which means that you MUST DOWNLOAD THE 2ND PART TO GET THE WEAPONS. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Aircraft & Nations Included ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The following aircraft are included in the three parts of this mod: Part 1: 1st Generation MiG-23s - MiG-23S Flogger-A (Early) - MiG-23S Flogger-A - MiG-23SM Flogger-A (obr.71) - MiG-23M Flogger-B (Ser. 1) - MiG-23M Flogger-B (Ser. 23) - MiG-23ME Flogger-B - MiG-23MF Flogger-B - MiG-23MF Flogger-B (Late) - MiG-23MF Rakshak - MiG-23MS Flogger-E - MiG-23UB Flogger-C (Early) - MiG-23UB Flogger-C Part 2: 2nd Generation MiG-23s - MiG-23ML Flogger-G (Early) - MiG-23ML Flogger-G - MiG-23MLA Flogger-G - MiG-23MLAE-A Flogger-G (32-22) - MiG-23MLAE-B Flogger-G - MiG-23MLD Flogger-K - MiG-23P Flogger-G - MiG-23PD Flogger-G - MiG-23UM Flogger-C - MiG-23-98 Flogger-K Part 3: Ground Attack MiG-23s & MiG-27s - MiG-23B Flogger-F (Early) - MiG-23B Flogger-F - MiG-23BN Flogger-H - MiG-23BN Flogger-H (Egypt) - MiG-23BN Flogger-H (Iraq) - MiG-23BN Vijay - MiG-27 Flogger-D - MiG-27D Flogger-J - MiG-27K Flogger-J2 (Early) - MiG-27K Flogger-J2 - MiG-27M Flogger-J - MiG-27ML Bahadur The following nations are represented: USSR Angola Bulgaria Ethiopia Czechoslovakia Egypt East Germany Iraq Hungary Libya Poland Syria Romania India Ukraine Sri Lanka Cuba Ivory Coast North Korea For more information on the differences between these various different versions, see the documentation included in \_OriginalReadMes. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A Few Notes About This Mod ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Those familiar with Lindr2's Flogger packages for SFP1 will rightly recognize that this updated mod builds on his earlier efforts. Although I have largely followed Lindr2's lead in assembling this package, there are some noteworthy differences between his SFP1 collections and this one: 1) Different Engine Sounds & Afterburner TGAs I have used different engine sounds and afterburner TGAs to give the various engines used by different models distinct sounds and appearances. 2) NATO Code Names The aircraft names do include the NATO code names, whereas Lindr2's SFP1 versions did not use them at all. Also, the Air-to-Air weapons use both NATO and Soviet names/designations (e.g., "R-73 AA-11 Archer"). 3) Wider range of Skins/Nations You will find a wider range of skins used to represent more nations, drawing on the various one-off skins that have been released by other modders. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Credits & Acknowledgements ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This package largely consists of work done by others and released previously in other packages. All I did was assemble the package, update the bits to SF2 standards, and make minor adjustments and tweaks here and there (discussed above). Rafael & BPAo ..................................
