Maybe this is old news to some of you, but I had never heard this piece of aviation folklore: During the late-1950's and into the mid-1960's, the New York Central Rail Road owned and operated a modified North American B-25J Mitchell (44-30996). The railroad acquired it as surplus for $3,000 from Davis-Monthan, and then re-configured it into a combination passenger and freight carrier (registered as N 9991Z). It was painted in the same gray-and-black scheme as its locomotives (trailing are a pair of photos I scanned out of a magazine, along with captions). It eventually became a casualty of the railroad filing for bankruptcy and was sold to private owners, and then re-sold and registered in the Philippines where it was destroyed (on the ground) during a cyclone in 1970. Some of these tales you can't make up...

I am old too, but I found a solution : I read a book during the loading time. Preferably a book on the subkject of the mission. For instance, I read a book on air war over during the Nivelle offensive and I fly a Nieuport in April 1917

I always come back to my Mirages....There's something about this gleaming silver dart that makes it look more like a piece of art, versus a warplane. I think it fits both roles perfectly.

View File AMX A-1A, AMX-T A-1B and AMX A-1M Brazilian Air Force The AMX International AMX is a ground-attack aircraft for battlefield interdiction, close air support and reconnaissance missions. It was built until 1999 by AMX International, an Italian-Brazilian joint venture. The AMX is designated A-1 by the Brazilian Air Force, and A-11 Ghibli by the Italian Air Force. The AMX is capable of operating at high subsonic speed and low altitude, by day or night, and if necessary, from bases with poorly equipped or damaged runways. Low IR signature and reduced radar equivalent cross-section help prevent detection, while low vulnerability of structure and systems aid survivability, while integrated ECM, air-to-air missiles and nose-mounted guns provide self-defence capabilities. AMX-T In 1986, development of a two-seat advanced trainer variant was undertaken. This was intended to provide trainee pilots with experience on fast jets, while still retaining the single-seater's attack capabilities. First flying in 1990, the AMX-T equipped both the Italian and Brazilian air forces. A-1M The product of a Brazilian upgrade program of their A-1s; significant features include a Mectron SCP-01 Scipio radar, Embraer BR2 data link, FLIR Systems navigation equipment, Elbit INS/GPS/databus, the adoption of a glass cockpit,[31] a new OBOGS system and HMD DASH IV. A auto-defesa é proporcionada por mísseis ar-ar, canhões integrados e sistemas de contramedidas eletrônicas including: Two versions of skin Two fictitious skins (A-1M) Three models: AMX-1A AMX-T A1B AMX-1M Model By Rafael Rodrigues Texture By Denis Oliveira Submitter denissoliveira Submitted 03/23/2015 Category Other Origin

If so, how's it going? Crash much? The problem with the aircraft is that the RCS system does not aid you in using the STOVL feature. Go to 50 degree down nozzle, and the nose dips. Be full throttle and it dives for the ground. The RCS is supposed to stop that happening. I compared data entries between the F-35B and the AV-8B Harrier Plus (whose RCS works) and noted that the RCS_UP in the F-35 is back in the fuselage, whereas in the AV-8B It's in the nose. I thought that might have an effect on general stability, but decided to go for a quickfix test. I took the RCS entries in the AV-8B and pasted them directly over the RCS entries in the F-35B. Success: the F-35B now flies STOVL just as the AV-8B does, with excellent stability. You can now do the rolling take-off: Military Power to 125 Kts, snap nozzle down to 50 and you're jumping into the air. Raise gear, move nozzle slowly back to zero and then you can go to afterburner as required. I can't do full STOVL yet. Couldn't in theAV-8B. But in landing, you can airbrake to a decent speed, push the nozzles to 100 to slow down further. drop gear and do short roll. 50 degrees to slow descent and power off. Lovely. Presumably everyone else has fixed this, and done much more, so talk to me guys. Thanks.

One factor I have come to appreciate all the more as I get older is the value of time. Therefore, I greatly appreciate a sim that loads quickly and expeditiously launches me into the action. I could never make any fist of ROF, so it has gone from my hard-drive. WOFF is good, but takes an age to load on my pc. With FE2, I am quickly into what Lima vividly describes as a seat-of-the-pants dogfight, which is what it's all about. The same impatience has led me back to the slimmer HSFX 7 from VP's fantastic, but slow-loading modpack; and has induced me to return to the resurrected European Air War and even to dabble with MiG Alley. It's all about the gameplay, I think. Shiny, fancy planes are all very fine, but this quality should only matter as a desirable but not necessary addendum to good gameplay.
