2 pointsA former MiG-21 pilot wrote me, that the pilots had big concern during missile life firing that the smoke trail of the missile would blow out the engine. To solve this problem in east german MiG-21 an additional gas bottle with oxygen was installed and was activated during missile launch procedure. So enough oxygen was available and the engine does not stalled anymore.

2 pointsThe Ye-8 flew 10 years before the Americans started to think about a lightweight fighter. It was twice as agile as a MiG-21F-13. The reason was, that the agility of the MiG-21 was hampered by her small air intake. So the engine very often fall into an engine stall and died. This problem was solved with the Ye-8 and so the full agility was achieved.

1 point26 March 2021 Dear Fighter Pilots, Partners and Friends, We are delighted to announce that arguably the most iconic helicopter gunship in the world is now available for pre-order with a 30% discount. DCS: Mi-24 Hind takes helicopter gameplay to a new level and sets a new standard for DCS in cockpit look and feel. We hope you will enjoy it. Check out our Hind pre-order video here. Derived from the Mi-8, the Hind airframe is fitted with a streamlined retractable undercarriage and stub-wings that provide lift at high speeds as well as a structure for attaching guided and unguided munitions. This massive machine combines firepower and troop-carrying capabilities, making it a force to be reckoned with. Our new Volumetric Cloud System requires a significant rewrite of our radar, sensor and weapon system code. To integrate the clouds smoothly, the process will be split into stages. The Clouds will initially be released as a purely visual feature, with the possibility to select a wide variety of weather presets from the Mission Editor. After the initial release, we will finalise the work on radar and weapon systems as well as how AI behaves in the new weather conditions. This is particularly relevant for close air combat line-of-sight behaviour. Please note, DCS: F/A-18C Hornet and DCS: The Channel will be released within a short time frame of Open Beta 2.7.0. which we have pushed out to the 7th of April 2021 due to the heavy testing and 3rd party integration requirements. Thank you for your passion and support. Yours sincerely, Eagle Dynamics Team Mi-24 HIND Pre-order now Known for its great exploits by the airborne units of the Soviet Army during the 1980 Soviet–Afghan War, the Hind is tough, durable and packs a heavy punch. DCS: Mi-24P Hind is a simulation of the legendary Mi-24 attack helicopter developed in the USSR and first introduced operationally in 1972. It has seen extensive action over the past 40 years as an effective combat air support helicopter. Fast, reliable and loved by pilots, this incredible machine still serves in more than 50 countries! DCS: Mi-24P is an opportunity to touch history and try yourself as a pilot of the legendary helicopter! Work is progressing steadily and we are excited to announce the list of features planned for Early Access release. Check out the In Development Screenshots. Key Features of DCS: Mi-24P Hind On pre-order/early access: Professional flight dynamics and engine modelling with high precision characteristics of the real aircraft in all ranges of altitude, temperature and speeds for different weights and flight configurations. Two 6DOF highly detailed cockpits (RU and EN versions available). Fully clickable cockpits with interactive control of all onboard systems with mouse. Multi-crew. Second crew member can be another player or “Petrovich” AI (basic AI level during early access phase). Detailed modeling of the entire electrical, fuel, hydraulic, anti-icing, fire protection, SAS, autopilot and radio systems. Full modeling of armament and weapons systems with ability to use 30mm cannon, unguided rockets (S-8, S-13, S-24B) and bombs from both cockpits in addition to the guided ATGM 9M114 operated by forward seated pilot-operator. Standard Russian new and weathered liveries in addition to Iraqi and Syrian schemes. Early Access manual Russian and English versions. Training missions. On release: Cargohold gunner with KORD machine gun. Advanced “Petrovich” AI features for pilot or pilot-operator seats. Addition of ATGM 9M120 (HEAT and HE versions) and R-60M air to air missiles. Sling cargo operations. Advanced damage modeling. Additional liveries and livery template. Manual in Russian and English (full list of languages is TBD). Campaign by Eagle Dynamics. Pre-order DCS: Mi-24 Hind now and save 30%. Click here. The Mi-24P Early Access is planned for release in the 2nd quarter of 2021. We are currently working on new reflections using extended pre-calculated light technology. The Mi-24P cockpit is roomy, pressurized and chemically and biologically filtered, making it a comfortable place to fight and operate in. The multi crew mode will be available from Early Access and will unveil our initial “Petrovich” AI. We look forward to sharing more information closer to the Early Access release in late Q2 2021. One of our top priorities will be the interaction and infrastructure for Commander and Operator AI. DCS: Mi-24 Hind Available for a limited time at only $48.95 Thank you for all your trust, support and enthusiasm. Yours Sincerely, Eagle Dynamics Team

1 pointOk I understand, I'll leave it alone. You just saved me from headaches trying to make 'filter' works. I will go ahead with simple methods by just editing aircraft's name in .ini files. By the way, for a bright side, I just began working on a new menu mods for SF2 with new GUI styles. I got inspired after seeing how the menu are set up, and I want to use my GUI design skills to make a new menu mod. If I ever get stuck, I'll post the questions in modding section. If it goes well later, I will post a mod here. For now, here is my rough design of the new menu, it is inspired by Jane's Fighter Anthology: Cheers!

1 pointIt was an amazing prototype, well ahead of its time. But the swing wing was the popular new toy with all of the air forces, so development and production went to the MiG-23. It is a shame the Ye-8 never entered production. I suspect it could have been superior to both the MiG-21bis and MiG-23MF as a hybrid of both: MiG-21 agility, MiG-23 radar. The canard probably provided high AoA benefits similar to a LERX. It would just need a high thrust/weight turbofan to make it competitive with the F-16. Though it clearly would retain the major MiG-21 flaw: short range.

1 pointA terrain's nations file only has the purpose to limit which nations and relative aircraft the AI uses, it does NOT remove other nations from the selectable list. The only way to do what you want is to remove nation entries altogether from the main nations.ini file which must reside in the Flight folder. We've done this for the ODS mod we released this January. If you have a good bandwidth, try to download it and check how it works there.

1 pointPer default the games write the options.ini and version.ini to %Userprofile%\Saved Games\Thirdwire\<game exe name>\ (e.g. C:\Users\<username>\Saved Games\ThirdWire\StrikeFighters2 Vietnam\). By changing the Options/OptionsFile entry in the <game exe name>.ini file you can indeed change the location of the options.ini file: [Options] OptionsFile=F:\MyOptionsDir\MyOptions.ini But you have to make sure that the target folder (in the example above F:\MyOptionsDir) already exists. However, the version.ini (and I think some auto update stuff) will still be written under ...\Saved Games\... The %Userprofile%\Saved Games folder is actually one of the 'special folders' in Microsoft Windows. Windows allows you to change the location of the special folders and therefore also of the Saved Games folder: Right click on the folder -> Properties -> Location. After that all games in windows will write it's data to this new location. Unfortunately the SF2 games with the exception of SF2 North Atlantic are buggy in this regard. They will still write to the original location %Userprofile%\Saved Games .

1 pointHaving had to do that 3-4 years ago with an HD crash, I can tell you can't migrate the exes. The installers have to be run, just like the first time you got them. OTH, saving the mods folders is a brilliant idea; then you can copy/paste them over the (newely) created mods folders from the (new) installs IIRC, once the new mods folder are generated, you should (the operative word!!) be able to re-use the original (archived) Options and Version inis. What I did when I had to reinstall, I didn't. I wanted new everythings until I could copy over all the other folders.

1 pointHi Frank, welcome to CA and thank you for the screenshot contributions. As so not to clog up the fora with too many new threads, could you maybe post your screenshots in the appropriate screenshot threads??? There are a few to choose from, and it is easier to find your pictures there. Thanks, keep up the enthousiastic good work! Muesli
