You can play SF2, Ace Combat, Project Wingman, Vector Thrust, et al with gorgeous looking Phantoms with various degrees of complexity now, *OR* You could spend the next month grinding 10 hours a day, 7 days a week, battling ping, lag, rubberbanding and dodgy players who never run out of ordinance and never seem to die to see what WT has on offer on either side of their paywall. Entirely up to you dude, we're not going to judge either way. Personally, I'd like to give WT a crack, but our flash new whizz-bang (and strategically knobbled) $60 billion dollar broadband service here in Oz has only just reached 1992-era levels of latency, so it'll continue to be a what-if for most of us here for the foreseeable future.

Unveiling a new fighter, or a new PR campaign directed at the West? Where Russia falls short on technical acumen (the fantastic Su-27/30/34/35 series notwithstanding), they more than make up for it with flashy media releases that overstate their technical prowess and military strength. It's interesting this is happening now, after a tumultuous year of widespread civil unrest...

The list is getting shorter finally lol, I will be taking a break from 3d modeling soon, for about a month will be back again in September.

View File Mirage F1ED Mirage F1ED This mod is dedicated to BPAO, nothing would have been possible without him. Libyan Air Force received 16 F1AD, 6 F1BD & 16 F1ED aircraft. All were grounded but twelve were contracted for refurbishment, of which only four were returned to service.Of these twelve, two were taken to Malta when their pilots defected. France will renovate Libya's small fleet of Mirage F1s and train its personnel as part of a defence co-operation agreement signed in 2012. Three Mirage F1 were reported lost during the western 2019 offensive. Covered unit : 1012th Fighter "Interceptor" Squadron. GAN post 2012 aircrafts. I would play WT, and did with tanks a few years ago, but i can't stand the grinding. I would also prefer a little more historical context over the way it is now, as oriented for MP balanced competition, but the models look great and there is a bit of soft realism. To be honest, I just envy some of the aircraft they have been getting for the Cold War era. Having stock flyable F-86s, F-5s and F-104s, let alone all the commie stuff, would have been great. Not that it is so much of an issue with mods, anyway.

In my opinion, War Thunder is much less complex compared to SF2. Most of the cockpit instruments don't even work in WT.

'My flight however, was by now nowhere in sight. So I flew back towards British territory. Flying west and after crossing over to inside our lines, I spotted a ragged line of 3 ac flying low, heading east at 600 ft intervals. I swung down to investigate and discovered that the ac I had swung in behind was a V-strutter. I pursued it for several minutes before catching and shooting it down. Later spotted lone Albatross stragglers four more times but was unable to close and engage.' Upon landing back at my aerodrome I learned that I was the only one of our four-man flight to return. It appears the Albatross formation we surprised followed my flight back and engaged them later, with discouraging results. This was the second time in a row that I avoided a massacre because I had become separated from the main formation whilst engaging the enemy. My flights continued onward without me only to be later decimated by a numerically superior foe.'

From pilot's log: 'We took off in total darkness. Once inside enemy lines, we were bracketed by search lights. We located the AF but unfortunately my bombs hit nothing. Then I saw a line of 8+ Albatrosses taking off one by one, and latched onto one which had become airborne for about 10 seconds before. Hit him many times before he finally spiralled down and crashed near his airfield. Then I flew away, once again bracketed by a searchlight. Airfield ground fire was lackluster.'

My Aussie pilot participated in a pre-dawn airfield attack. Vision was good because of cloudless skies.

Oh man, why don't they bring the disco music of the 70s back? Bee Gees, The Trammps, Tavares... Granted I'm a weirdo, I'm 26 so I should be liking nowadays' mainstream crap, or at least that's what majority of my generation listens to; trap which rhymes with crap, they just got the first letter wrong.

Udorn AB, Thailand. Drew Haiphong again. Except this time it was with Capt. Brown and in daylight. Some strikes were going in and they needed some pre photos. Takeoff and the outbound flight was routine. The action began as we came down to mission altitude and broke out of the hills SW of Ninh Binh. By now i'm firmly convinced that there are AA emplacements virtually everywhere east of the hills N of Vinh. We were already being tracked by a Firecan before we even set for our run and as soon as we got past the last hill the ground fire opened up. Not bad at first but from the Ninh Binh to Nam Dinh it was very brisk. There was a lull as we passed Thai Binh. That was good for us as by then we got settled in for the pass on the primary and hit the burners enough to get us up past the mach. And it was a good thing that it was a supersonic pass as the groundfire was of such volume and accuracy that i'm positive the aircraft would have been hit. So we zoomed over the primary and kept on past the ridge N of there. The area N of the ridge was completely devoid of defenses. We swung NW and went on our way, passing on the far side of Kep and Thai Nguyen, keeping an eye on the scope the whole way. Midway along the passage we went to altitude to see if SAM would come up but from some checking us out with their radars, nothing happened. As it stayed that way all the way up and until we headed out N of Yen Bai. There was some meager AAA but the scope was indicating that at least three sites were looking at us. So maybe we were just out of their range or they were reloading after engaging earlier strikes. Guess we'll find out sometime soon.

Absolutely spot on. Great points IMO. (1) Yes - and target the new flight simmers. e.g. the many who I assume will migrate from X-Box after the MSFS 2020 X-Box release. They'll be buying new Win 10 machines. (2) True. And surely the Janes line proved there is a market for that level of play balance? (3) I was super impressed with the mods at http://yankeeairpirate.net/ (4) IMO, if he added Better lighting/atmospherics Elevation data - the billiard board terrain doesn't excite folk anymore More structures Upgrade the skin res (optional) and kept all the content the same = a winner! To illustrate 1,2 and 3, check out this screen from Project Wingman, made with the Unreal engine. This is what people expect these days.

Okay so the Rolling Thunder campaign was never my favourite campaign from the series, in fact might be the most bland. The main reason for this was most probably the fact that there is no forward line of troops and tank columns to fight it out, and gain or lose ground after each mission. Rolling Thunder for real The campaign namesake this is based on was one of the most disastrous and misguided campaigns in the history of aerial warfare. What was hoped would be a few weeks of bombing missions to get North Vietnam back to the negotiating table to stop them trying to invade the South, turned into 3 or so years of bombing targets selected by Washington. Or to put it another way pussy footing around bombing things that did nothing more than improve North Vietnam's resolve to continue on its agenda and also allow it to build up its defenses with the help of the Soviet Union and China. So, 3 years of bombing targets – many times the same targets over and over, and never achieving the desired US strategy. Rolling Thunder in game In the Strike Fighters game engine this translates to what seems like a string of single missions and yes you don’t have much of an objective other than to try and not get shot down. However, unlike auto generated Single missions, Campaign missions are more content filled and almost always include strike packages and flights that help you do your job (If you at least meet your timings). Not only that all the units have their markings and decals as they should. Like history there are no SAMs until mid 1965 and the MiG regiments are limited in number. One great thing about TKs games is the use of "dates", so the game engine can just plonk in the correct objects (Guns/SAMs/MiGs) depending on the date you are flying. This also includes getting rebased and upgraded to better aircraft during the campaign. Vietnam Gold Like most things in Strike Fighters World, mods can really help and I am using the Vietnam Gold mod with a variety of my own changes. This comes with quite a fearsome atmosphere with a ton of guns shooting at you with purple stuff, red stuff and grey puffy stuff. A major benefit is a bigger variety of targets and not just the sodding comms building again. Gameplay Feb 24 1966 and I am flying from Da Nang in an F-100D (1964 version) for the 416th “Silver Knights”. I don’t know what it is about the F-100D that I like because it is outclassed by pretty much all the MiGs. The Lang Chi Electric Power plant is my target (a welcome addition from gold pack I think) – and I need to be on target for 09:10 on the dot. I am maxing out the M-117s here – there are plenty of them available. The SF2 Super Sabre also allows TERS to carry 4 on the inner pylons by default but with extra drag. How to get there hmmm. Those that played Wings Over Vietnam will know various routes into the North to minimise exposure to the SAMs, some of which had a 90% plus probability of kill if you were not flying at about 5ft off the ground. Luckily the SAMs in SF2 and this pack allow you to fly a bit more as they tended too back then! With a target near Yen Bai I can use the highlands as cover and cross in over South NVN where there are little to no SAMs. The Square box waypoint (the Initial Point /IP) is also the spawn point if you use Alt N, so can be moved around if you don’t have time to fly there. Waypoint 3 is fixed as a rendezvous with other flights. If SF2 had been developed, it would have been nice to change the waypoint details for the flights like in Falcon so you could move the fixed waypoint for all flights. Another thing that could have been improved was seeing your actual target area before flying. If you consider Jack Broughton spent all night memorising features etc before going on a mission you can understand the point of just marking the actual target with Padlock or a red dot! As you can see only 2 MiG regiments active with MiG-17F and MiG-21F-13. First Lt Eldon Atterbury is my wingy today. If you do take time to nurture the pilots their stats do improve (if they survive) Let's go then As we fly towards the target other flights are also on route to their targets. After a while several fights occur Due to meticulous planning we reach the target just fine and we roll in from above the cloud base I hit the target but get peppered by a lot of triple A Phew heading out but think my Wingy is a bit lost. Try to search, but no sign of him and no beeper! so off home alone Mystery solved, a MiG-21F-13 gunned him down and I had no idea that was in the area! If only all Vietnam mysteries could be solved so easy! I then went on to fly A-4C/Es for the US Navy in which you get to take off from Carriers in the Gulf on Tonkin Mr SAM is always happy to see you This thud was just lucky! This thud was not so lucky What are all those blotches So still quite intense flying through all the anti air and check 6 for those MiGs as always!

2LT Eugene Hornwell was on his photo run flying through heavy AAA fire when his aircraft was hit and went down just short of the primary target over Hanoi. No chute was seen
