block numbering goes all the way back to WW2; AAF birds most def!!! (P-47D-20, P-51D-10, P-38J-5, etc). Oddly, I don't remember anything about USN birds of the period, just the sub-number (SBD-5, F6F-5N, SB2C-4, etc)

Yes, that's logical. There is hardly any more evident example of this trend than the Hornet and the Super Hornet. On the other hand it seems to me the F-16E/F were labelled E/F instead of F-16C/D Block 60 simply in an attempt to convince the buyer they are buying cutting-edge technology and not something outdated. So, some play with blocks and versions - "Nah, no biggie, it's just another block." vs. "Oh, no, that's a brand new thing, look, it is not the C/D anymore, it is the E/F now", that kind of thing. And that is going further with the F-16V now.

im not 100% certain, but my money is on...... money. small incremental block increases get overlooked and approved in the budget process easier than major model letter upgrades. amusingly, some of the older birds have gone to Block system as well, such as the KC-135R Block 45 upgrade

Excuse my sidedrift, but I always wondered, why there are in fact only 6 major F-16 versions (A+B, C+D, E+F), although each block alone usually brought lots of not so small changes with it. On other planes this often resulted in a new variant-letter, but not so on F-16s.

Depends how far you are going..................Block 10 (1/5/10) were upgraded to C type gun muzzle at some point..maybe 1990s ..Isreali Netz and MLU 10s (1/5/10) had it. Also a number of Block 10 (1/5/10) got the bigger horizontal stabs from mid 1980s and became known as "big tail Block 10s" (nope not Block 15s)

the big first question is : do you have the TW cat extractor? if yes, then its a matter of playing with it. you wont remember which file is in which folder. but you can browse each folder and you'll start to get a feel for whats in each. the first one is generic game object inis, second one off limits (the actual lod models) and from there its typically grouped by decals, aircraft and ground models, going down the line of sf2, vietnam, europe, israel, north atlantic and DLC (if you have any) it seems daunting at first. play with it, practice, screw up, learn from screw up and practice some more. eventually you'll start having the game dialled in the way you want rather than adjusting to the game

I managed to fix the aircraft's size, but when its ingame the plane is missing the interior. I'm guessing its because blender is optimizing models that way (or the game engine). Not sure how to fix, will appriciate tips

Hello, everyone. I thought I would give an update as I have not been around much. It was partly me getting buried in following the Russo-Ukrainian War. However I had a hard drive failure on the drive I had all of my SF2 Mod folders on. I lost just about all of my personal tweaks and adjustments to SF2 that I have made since joining CombatAce. I do have a backup from 2012 and a mishmash of various stuff from scattered time throughout the intervening years but not my fully organized folders I used for play and testing. On top of that I nearly recovered everything I lost and then accidently reformatted over the recovered data when setting up the new hard drive I bought, scroll list jumped under the mouse arrow while I was glancing away. This loss basically knocked the wind out of my sails as it comes to SF2 and hence why I pretty much disappeared. However I have decided it was time to shake the dust off and picked myself back up. If anyone needs help on a project with ground object data files please let me know.

Well, that is most interesting. I was not aware that other air forces also created locally and used recon pods based on the UB-16 rocket pod. I guess that was some Warsaw pact sharing of ideas and experience
