I just merged the model without the texture after resetting the material and saved it. Then, I started a new 3ds Max file and merged the saved file without any material settings, and it worked with no more shadows in-game. Thank you again for your help, my dear friends. Now I need to reset all the materials and test to see if everything is okay after setting everything up.

ALBATROS D III (OAW) WITH JASTA 39 REDUX This upload comprises of 3 Rar files, the first is the standard D III OAW, 2 of which are in generic markings, and 2 which are Ottoman machines, one in earlier markings of the black square, the second with the late war red squares. The other 2 Rar files are all for Jasta 39 Albatri, 2 generic, and the rest in the markings shown in the thumbnail pictures heading this download. Again as with the previous D III's I uploaded previously, the Jasta 39 aircraft are in their own complete fils, so you can use them as a seperate Jasta so it is named Albatros DIII (OAW) (JASTA 39)......you know the drill by now I am sure !!! The red and white candy stripe one, was a real pain in the bum to do, mainly because of the bloody awful way the models were made, so getting the stripes to marry up correctly had me cursing and swearing quite considerably. So it is not 100% perfect, but it is as good as can be expected, and certainly better than the original skin that was done in this scheme, I forget who originally uploaded it, but for sure it is a vast improvement. As ever, everything is included in the package, Decals, Guns........blah blah blah..........You will need to download all the files as the decals etc for the Jasta 39 Albatri are in the first RAR file.............As for the rest, I am not going to repeat myself, as I am sure most of the folks downloading this, are used to my stuff, so I wont bore you with the blurb !!! As always...................ENJOY

to make it even more interesting , i merged the object with the rear canopy of my F-4G and the problem is gone , after getting it from my F-4G back to the EF-2000 the problem is back the object is not yet mapped but what puzzles me is that on the one aircraft the problem is gone and on the other one it is back could it be the tga texture that is causing it ??? or the canopy frame where the object is linked to ??? i never had this issue at all and something tells me that this is not easily fixed and that the problem is definitely a problem of that aircraft model and not a 3ds setup problem

Are you sure you don't have inverted normals or overlapping faces either? Check Normals and see if you can unify. Don't forget to close all your mesh modifier stacks and ensure they are "Editable Mesh." Also, to rule out texture issue, perhaps try attached. Happy to try to work with version of source file as well. WTR_CompletelyClear.tga

all settings are the same on my 3ds max except this 2 if you like you can send me this canopy part and the texture for it and i take a look at it

I know nothing about making models, but are those oval-shaped curved parts that you identify actually part of the canopy model, rather than being shadows? They look like they might be internal (see-through) frames, over which the modder has created the canopy itself.

It is not so strange, the same thing already happened with the F-5 that comes with YAP (SOH) I work on a small mod and I encountered the same problem, too bad I do not own the editable to correct it. It looks like something related to the texture application overlapping the transparency, surely the mapping settings above are related to the problem.

GKABS, I've seen similar effects happen when there are disparate smoothing groups. Try smoothing all at L1 or Autosmooth, collapse the mesh stack and then re-apply the material texture. Also, are you sure you don't have a double-sided mesh or any polys have been flipped - that could cause it too.

But are those settings just related to in max settings ? not the actual object itself....if you get what I mean ? If you select any one of the vertical edges and then select loop, only 2 adjacent edges are selected, but if you select all the polys and slice them vertically, then select an edge then loop all the edges along that "line" are then selected. Surely this means something is amiss with the actual object Sorry I'm not very clear here, but I'm sure it's something to do with the way the canopy has been created. Having a bad day health wise.....
