11 pointsWhen Thunder Rolled and Winds of Change - September 2021 It is with great excitement today we announce some updates and increasing momentum of the When Thunder Rolled Project. Perhaps the most significant news is a Leadership change. All founding members have approved the nomination and acceptance of a new Project Leader that has demonstrated the proficiency, commitment and quality demanded in this critical role. Leveraging his solid understanding of the Thirdwire sims, and recent leadership roles with other initiative including Operation Desert Storm, will set us up for greater success. With this change, we are expecting a surge in activity and progress which has us energized and excited. On a tactical level, our top focus/priority now continues to be on finalizing terrain work - creating incredibly accurate depictions of the Vietnam topography, cities/towns, airbases, enhanced terrain tiles (e.g., honoring requests for more rice paddies), etc. This terrain of course will serve as the foundation for everything else. We continue to excel in enhancing immersion and realism – leveraging outsourced professionals to help with creating dense jungle environments, realistic sky environments and more. These efforts are a cycle of ongoing experiments balancing how much we can push this old game engine and still maintain acceptable frame rates. We have also been making progress in many other areas such as creating realistically detailed target areas. For example, when you strike an enemy military storage area in WTR, we promise it won’t be a generic “Warehouse1” – see proof below! Next up on the target area list is creating a cluttered rail yard supporting Ed’s June 20, 1966 attack on the Railyard NorthEast of Kep Airfield. New models will include a marshalling yard with new train cars, rail yard support buildings, service equipment and more. Also noteworthy perhaps: while not formally adopted on the development roadmap but under consideration – we have received requests over the past few years regarding Yankee Air Pirate (YAP) compatibility. A majority of former YAP team members have already been involved with the WTR Project so this continues to be assessed and a greater possibility. Please enjoy the screenshots below; note these are lower res/compressed versions and representative of unedited actual gameplay. As always, we welcome and encourage community support. If you are interested in contributing, please send me a Private Message (PM). Finally, very special thanks to Erik for all his support and hosting our exclusive forum. Please feel free to share your thoughts and comments in this forum, thank you. An F-105 drops its payload over North Vietnam amidst heavy cloudy skies. Our brand new scratch F-100F; its dazzling bare metal skin catching the morning sun on an enemy air defense suppression (Wild Weasel) mission. Vivid Morning Skies over a small Vietnam Village lose their tranquility as enemy AAA chase after the contrails of an F-105 strike package (top right). Another brand new scratch model, this time showcasing the Mig-17 featuring an insane level of detail and perfect for you rivet counters. Rough inner coastal waters demonstrated by new water effects roll in to disrupt a peaceful beach. An NVA solider driving the SA-2 missile transporter takes a quick break along the Ho Chi Minh Trail. Yet another new scratch model, the AH-1 Skyraider! Employing a low bomb pass this skillful pilot scores a direct hit on an enemy truck convoy just clearing a ridge along the Ho Chi Minh trail. The sheer beauty of Vietnam, rolling hills, lush jungles and colorful fields serve as a momentary distraction from the war. May 3, 1966. Ed Rasimus’ first recorded combat mission successfully strikes a Dong Hoi military storage area in Route Pack 1. 2 pointsI like the message bar because it tells me what ground attack weapons I've selected, but I didn't like where it was because it was writing across the instruments in the cockpit. So after ten years of fuming over it, I decided to find a new position for it. Flight Folder/Message system (You have to extract it) TextFontName=Arial TextSize=15 [MessageSystem] MaxMessages=1 MessageTime=2.0 MessageFadeTime=3.0 ;MaxMessages=25 ;MessageTime=200 ;MessageFadeTime=2.5 [MessageWindow] BackgroundImage=TextBackground.tga TopLeftPosition=0.01,0.845 BottomRightPosition=0.210,0.865 VerticalBorder=0.0015 HorizontalBorder=0.008 ;TopLeftPosition=0.2,0.2 ;BottomRightPosition=0.8,0.985 ;VerticalBorder=0.0015 ;HorizontalBorder=0.008 I removed the cockpit in the image so you can see how it neatly fits over the information box. I bet you've all done this already

2 pointsContinuing... After working all night long the armorers make a special package for one of the Jaguars of the base. A couple of odd missiles hang from the feline wings... With the heavy loadout the Jag struggles to get airborne. But soon is underway with his wingman with a more conventional loadout, as a backup... The escort is nearby, one never knows what the Lybians can launch in the air, altough the early hours of the morning should find them with their pants down. Once over enemy territory the flight proceed at a exhausting very low level with barely enough light to see anything. But the training pay off and the flight arrives at the red line and find its target, missile underway! Tense moments in Capitain Delacroix cockpit The missile found its mark, and the Lybians get up and start firing with all they had. Fortunately the chaff spoils their AAA radars The two Jags get back to friendly territory. Delacroix waits his wingman to land And then land, to be hurrily directed to the small hangar, to get its lasting missile defused and put in a box again. Later in the evening the same Transall departs back to France with the new missile tested in operational conditions and with a clear message sent to Gaddafi.

1 pointHi guys I havent done any modding for Strike Fighters 2 before but I was working on a little something here for personal use and thought id post about it. If there is demand id be happy to release it as long as paulopanz and the people credited in his readme are ok assuming I credit them too? On my facebook I have been running lets plays with some friends in strike fignters 2 where I modify the campaigns (also my first time doing that) and among adding new things use the knownace command to add them as max stat ai pilots in the squadron. We fly a mercenary squadron and everyone picks a plane and I take screenshots and do a write up of everyones exploits for that mission Its been a lot of fun. Ive started working on the campaign for the next one and after discovering all the area 88 skins here I decided to lean into the area 88 inspiration in the mercenary campaigns that and do an area 88 inspired campaign based in early 1980 for the lets play. (the ova shows shins contract dated april 79 iirc) its going to focus mainly on just dhimar and paran duking it out with largely older and outdated planes but with newer missiles available and only a very few modern fighters around like f14, mig23ml, f16a etc. Mostly stuff like mig 17 19 and some 21s, older mirages, f100s and f104s, f8s etc. I got the idea for Paran having a mig19 upgraded in the 70s and thought it could be a fun idea and came up with an upgraded MiG-19S called M-74. It is really just some basic ini edits and compiling stuff into one place but it ended up being a very fun plane to fly. Its essentially a MiG19S with a greatly enhanced fuel capacity, i imagine a long dorsal hump like on the mig21s witn the extra tank up tbere. It has the extra hard points of the Soviet 1960 field mod. It has been updated to be compatible with newer weapons. It can carry R60s and is compatible with the double r60 racks on the outermost pylons. inspired by the what if Dhimari Lightnings I came up with a bit of a story being Paran is looking to upgrade their stocks of outdated MiG19s. At some point someone from Parani air force sees a demonstration of the R60 missile and a deal is hatched where the planes were sent back to the Soviet Union, refurbished, installed with the new fuel tank which also helped with the fuel leak issues for more range and compatbility with new R60 missile as well as the double rack from the MiG23 when it was available. The planes usually carried 2 Atolls and later on in service improved atolls on the innermost pylons for larger targets or longer range but R60 can be carried there as well. The middle pylons were used for the fuel tanks and the outer pylons carried either 1x or 2xR60 missiles. Usually only 1 missile was mounted unless intense air combat was expected. I am thinking about doing a version of this plane for the MiG19P with an improved radar off say a mig21 and compatbility with some of the large SARH missiles like tbe SU15 or MiG25 carries on the outer pylons but im not sure of I can do a major avionics change with my skills and id also have to look if such missiles will even fit haha.

1 pointI also made a quick video of me dogfighting some F4s with some music from the area 88 trance cd. I used the time skip command so I had a lot more fuel than I normally would haha.

1 pointOh wow, im really stupid. I dont know why but I assumed this was something else, thanks.

1 pointI won't be able to let this game go and get into DCS or Il-2 if you guys keep doing stuff like this

1 pointGKABS These are the numbers that give height on screen TopLeftPosition=0.01,0.845 BottomRightPosition=0.210,0.865 I estimate that you would need to change them to this TopLeftPosition=0.01,0.815 BottomRightPosition=0.210,0.835 I'm running 1920x1080 screen. There's a possibility that your screen format is slightly different. But you get the principal anyway. What finally pushed me to the edge was when I was flying the Meteor in Korea, and it had a neat little flaps display gauge at the bottom of screen. Whenever I chose flap position, I couldn't see the gauge because the message bar popped up on top of it. Grrr.

1 pointNo worries Wilches - all fixed now. The Breguet XIV (French/Fiat and USAS/Liberty variants) and Junkers J.I packages may be found for download under the initial download location for those models, under this post (near the top of page 26 of this thread). Happy flying all, Von S
