Making good progress on the skins - they are nearly finished. Then, LODs and cockpit. This illustrates why I don't release more aircraft. Making the aircraft model and skins - the fun part - is only 50% of the required effort.

I want to say the one in the picture is the "flexible" Phalz. I am a fan of " The Max", and it still amazes me these two movie birds have lasted over half a century.

Hello flyers, As far as I know there were two replicas of the Pfalz. D.IIIa used for The Blue Max; one was made of wood but pilots complained that it twisted too much in flight (this is of course a criticism of the replica - and probably can't be applied as a comment to the original Pfalz D.III/IIIa of 1917...although there are reports that the tail section on the original Pfalz D.III/IIIa would "twist" if left too long in damp conditions). The other replica for the movie had a steel tube fuselage but wooden wings, basically a "hidden" Tiger Moth (the fuselage was therefore longer than on a real Pfalz...apparently it flew well, with heavy controls). I have no idea which of the two replicas is in the beautiful pic. above...possibly the Pfalz Moth? Von S

In a special meeting in the Hebrew cabinet in August 1987, the goverment presided by Yitzhak Shamir decided to stop the development of the IAI Lavi after defense budget had sikyrocketed. But in a twist of fate, almost at the end of the meeting a urgent message arrived trough diplomatic channels. Japan and Argentina will help to fund the IAI Lavi in exchange for techincal help and the permissions to build the plane in country. At this genereous offer, Shamir soon made a press conference presenting the country with the new situation and letting IAI enginners and pilots to continue the flight tests then underway. 5 years after that the plane was considered a huge succes with export orders to several countries as well as being a plane that meets all the old and new requirements being made by the IAF. Here we see the plane in a punitive strike in 1994 against Gaza strip. Model by AngelP, it need some work on skins, basicly weathering and stencils, if anyone wanto to help with that...

A new Pfalz Dr.1 model sure would be a great addition to FE2, but take your time on the model if you decide on it Geezer. I'm sure the final product will be amazing. My modified FM for the Pfalz Dr.1 is a major overhaul - it incorporates the modifications to the airfoils for the D.III/IIIa, among other changes, that file itself being an overhaul of the Alb. D.V FM. I'm sure the data ini can be used with a new Pfalz Dr.1 - might only require a change to the rolling radius for the wheels and coordinates to the tailskid, so it sits on the ground properly, and maybe adjustments to the center of gravity, for a proper view from the cockpit. Happy flying, Von S P.S. Speaking of FMs, it shouldn't be too much trouble to re-work my Pfalz Triplane FM into one for the Pfalz D.VIII (removal of the middle wing, changes to weight, also power output, etc., the D.VIII being powered by the uncompressed version of the Siemens-Halske 11-cyl. rotary). Will get to that once I finish with the Caudron R.11 FM.

I can see why VonS likes the triplane - there is something really appealing to the classic point defense fighter. No range or load carrying capability to speak of, but it climbs and dives like a bat outta hell. I can adapt a D.VIII to make a DR.I, but the middle wing root will be a fair amount of work. I like to "grow" my wing roots out of the fuselage to simulate the compound curves of a wing fillet. Also shots of a master craftsman making a wood fuselage shell for a D.VIII, and a factory shot of the two shells being mated together.
