2 pointsEvents of 100 years ago can sometimes be confusing. In 1914, the American public wanted nothing to do with "another European war." Indeed, Woodrow Wilson was re-elected for a second term as president by running on the platform "he kept us out of the war." Popular historians say that German submarine warfare changed American opinion, but that ignores facts. The infamous Lusitania sinking occurred BEFORE the presidential election of 1916 but did not affect American voters - they re-elected an anti-war president. After Wilson was elected, events such as the Zimmerman telegram outraged American voters and the government then declared war on Germany. The US originally wanted to use its white star insignia, but Allied pilots shot at anything not marked with a cockade, so the white star was not suitable for the western front. By the time American units began to arrive in France, Russia was out of the war so the US used the old Russian insignia.

2 pointsCzarist Russia withdrew from the war in 1917, about the same time the US entered the war. Russia was no longer using its national markings so the US adopted them for its own use during WW1.

1 pointHi Guys As I was reading it, i was so amazed and couldn`t believe, they are really updating it. Im really, really, really happy!!!! But enjoy it my friends!!!! Hello virtual pilots, Today I have the honor to write a Dev Diary. My name is Evgeny Isaev, I'm the lead map maker. I want to tell you a bit about our work and share some good news. The Stalingrad map was the first in our project. Time has passed and now, thanks to our lead programmer Sergey Vorsin, we have new technologies, instruments and methods that allow us to reach a new level of quality. In addition, the recent changes in the engine for almost four times visibility distance increase caused visible artifacts on maps that were most apparent on the Stalingrad map. So it was the time to re-visit and improve our first map. This wasn't planned initially, but we ought to find the time for this task. The main issue was the repeating of terrain textures that was much less noticeable before. Even with very large textures, visible tiling is inevitable with the new far visibility distance. To solve this issue, we used our new tech that was created for mountains on the Kuban map - procedural texturing. This allowed us not only get rid of the tiling but also emphasize the map relief and make each area unique. Nature itself helped us in this task - we used the real-world satellite heightmaps. We ourselves were surprised at the end result. We read your comments on the forums and know that some of you put up some valid points regarding the maps, for instance, that the Stalingrad area is a steppe and therefore it should have much less agricultural fields. We knew this since we always do a thorough research on the areas we recreate in the game, but this implementation was mandatory. It's pleasant that you notice smaller things. Now, the most part of the updated Stalingrad map will be a steppe, making it more true to history. Thanks to our increased experience and new methods at our disposal we were able to achieve a much better result - the ground surface became much more vivid, its microfeatures are different on cliffs, ravines and plains, contributing to the feel of the world scale and allowing to estimate your altitude easier. You can see some screenshots of the updated summer map below (update 3.001 will include the updated summer and autumn seasons). The old version of the map (but with the new visibility distance and sky) is shown on the left for comparison, while the updated map at the same lighting conditions is on the right. We hope you'll like the new version of the map and it will give you new emotions from the flight in our simulator. The Link https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/168-developer-diary/page-5#entry543945

1 pointGo to the terrain's main .ini file and set NavalMap=FALSE. When it is set to TRUE, naval battles ala SF2NA occur. Setting it to false, though, will remove all naval ops as available in SF2NA. AFAIK if a terrain has NavalMap=TRUE, naval battles always take priority over land-based strike missions. But, I think, this happens because the Soviets (Red Side) have a fleet too. If you are in a terrain where only Blue Side has a naval fleet, while the Red Side countries don't have one, then you should have land-based strike missions when flying for the Blue Side.

1 pointIf you don't want to play recent games with max. settings, then your GPU is fine. I would go for 16GB RAM, too.

1 pointHello Coupi, What's your budget for your upgrade ? I recently increased my RAM to 16GB and changed my graphic card for a GTX 1070 and I don't regret my investment.

This is a skin, decal pack and an updated data ini for this aircraft. If you don't have the aircraft already, it's available at the URL below: https://combatace.com/files/file/15853-kc-97l-stratofreighter/ Serial numbers are 100% historical for aicraft depicted. All markings are decals, and decal randomization is TRUE. Also included is an new, revamped data ini with corrected hit boxes. The original USAF skin has also been "refershed" and is included. 1 pointMore Fighting The Flying Circus theme shots. Jeanba helped me find a primary source reference for the R11. The single photo he was able to find enabled me to make an educated guess about the R11's wing camo.

1 pointThat was their anthem only until 1944. After that, this anthem which I used in the video, was introduced. And, with a changed text, is again used for the nowadays' Russian Federation. Yes, we sing this verse still today. One verse was dropped tough, which described the old frontiers of Germany, which shrunk after WW2. And yes - the Nazi regime DID ruin a lot of the feelings, with which we would sing our anthem. Any other nation is singing their national anthem with much more pride than we Germans do. Well, my honest opinion is, that the US politics are often much more aggresive than Putin ever was. A lot of any Russian moves are getting very much distorted in Western media. For example, Russia did not "occupy" the Crimean pininsula. They had always been there - it is their Black Sea Naval base. They didn't have to occupy it - the majorityof the Eastern Ucraine people have stronger relations to Russia, than to far away "western" Kiew. But that won't get told on TV. While the American interests are always being understood by our anchormen, the Russian interests are not even regarded. But we are getting on the thin ice of politics here, and I don't want to start a looong debate about all that.

-1 points1st bout Me: F/A-18F EPE with 2 x AIM-9X and 6 x AIM-120 and one tank Opposition: Seaqeh with 2 x R-13 Atolls This first engagement with the Seaqeh shows what overconfidence can do to somebody and to make sure you're not distracted by other things and misjudging an aircraft. The fight started with me chasing the aircraft (maybe he couldn't detect me? Then again it could be his azimuth limits as I started below him. Once he visually acquired me the fun began. At the start of the engagement he started out with a couple energy circles. Both times I came over the top and tried to get a good firing solution. At the apex of the second half loop I misjudged his direction, thinking he was outbound when he was inbound. My first 9X missed clearly missing him. After that it turned into a few horizontal scissors, and then he began weaving. Maybe he was praying to Allah very judiciously as my second shot fired wide off the mark and he turned away again. This time it was either guns or AMRAAM. At first I tried AMRAAM at least trying to get a lock on him. As such the Seaqeh turns very well for its size even at low speeds and therefore when I was switching to guns I overshoot and he ends up right in my engine wake (next to last image). If he had the reflexes he could have put his 20mm in my tail and i would have been gone. Well some more energy circles and then another misjudge and my second mid-air (my first one ever was my wingman flying into me after a CAS mission in VietnamSEA map) collision. The takeaway is that I'm sure most Top Gun pilots back in the day have experienced, the big bad plane overshooting and the Top Gun Instructor "killing" the pilot. But a lot of it is the low speed handling of the aircraft in the knife fight and it's insistence on the scissors fight, in which if you're not paying attention, can get you.
