5 pointsTo whomever still reads this.. ..just wanted to let you know I'm still refining the Caporetto terrain. It came to my attention (books, pictures from the period, etc.) that the carst region is to greenish. At the time, e.g. start of 20th century it was more barren than today. Comparing to the Google satelitte imagery of today it must have looked differently at the time. More rocks, less scrub, bushes and trees. One of the major hazards were rock splinters thrown up by explosions and not the actual shrapnels, e.g. piece of metals. Trenches had to be build with rocks and digging was not done with shovels but with pickaxes and pneumatic drills / jackhammers. As a consequence I'm in the process of repainting / recoloring all tiles connected to this area. Why I'm doing this and why do I care? Another question (usually asked by my missus). Well the answer is rather complex and it's definitely not related primarely on the technical challenge. I know it's just a game and even an old one. The game-engine has it's limitations and the representation of the reality is definitely limited. However I like to push the boundaries on one hand and on the other hand I think all those poor souls who fought there deserve it. My family lost two members on this front. One on the plains of the Carst in front of the Fajiti Hrib hill and one on the Pasubio mountain (RIP). Hope you'll enjoy the upcoming (again) reworked and enhanced terrain Kind regards gt

3 pointsAnyone interested in seeing a definitive, reworked nations.ini with new decals for all the added services? Right now I have the Russian Air Force added as an extension of the Soviet Air Force, with the new Russian star decal starting from 2010 as historically correct. Basically, it's just the Soviet Air Force that changes name to the Russian Air Force as soon as you select 1992 as the mission date. I have also added the newly reformed Libyan Air Force, and I am planning to proceed this way by adding those countries who had and/or have an air force. So I will also add Biafra and Katanga, for instance. The Soviet Naval Aviation has been added as a separate service. It should have been like this since day one, but TK grouped everything into the Soviet Air Force. I am not sure about adding army aviation branches (like those included in some of yakarov's helo mods), but if I do they will be complete with decals. Here below a quick glimpse; The Russian star was made and included by eburger68 in one of his mods. I added/made the other decals. If I manage to obtain permission, I'd also like to include numerous medal packs for various nations, such as the ones created by Capitaine Vengeur.

1 pointDepends. Extent of damage to engine mounts?, one engine mount damaged or more?, what else is keeping the engine in place? etc etc etc etc Only example I know of the F-4 flew back to base and landed. Another case might be different. Who would know? Only someone who either has years dealing with multiple cases of Over G damage or can access records on over G damage in an airforce. Any point sticking in a computer game? None whatsoever the amount of work required considering 99.9% of the player base can't have any idea of the reality or ever care means a pointless endeavour. Realistic damage modelling to a practical level is all you could ever expect.....for anything else join an Airforce.

1 pointIt's not that easy to break some airplanes, a lot depends on how much "available G" they have. ThirdWires F-16 is the only one I've broken recently, just for fun. At low level the available G is huge in the transonic zone so becomes breakable if you just yank back on the stick at high speed. Someone will correct me but I think, in general, the break point is about twice the rated G so a plane rated at 7G's might not actually break up until about 14G. Some structural damage/deformation might happen prior to the break point, and it could be enough to write off the airplane. I remember reading somewhere about a Mirage F-1 accidentally pulling something like 15-17G's and still landing safely, although the airframe was a write off. Also, I think some of the ThirdWire FM's, and my own, for that matter, are unbreakable because the available G is less than the actual plane may be capable of. That's to try and keep the pitch response from getting too sensitive at high speeds in my case, and maybe for TW FM's as well. I usually target a maximum of about 12 G's, which still gives the player the option of a "Hail Mary" high G turn.

1 pointDecals for Mercenary, Dhimar and Paran were low-res (128x128) when compared to those of other stock nations. I remade them at the higher stock resolution (256x256). Notice the new, generic Mercenary insignia. It always bothered me that it showed Dhimari colours. Now this insignia is adapt for a fictional Mercenary unit, to be deployed anywhere in the SF2 world.

1 pointfor permissions double check that the original author is a member of the freeware licensing agreement or that they give blanket permission in their readmes. just a couple of unbiased (cough cough) suggestions, add in the US Army, Airliner nation and a red Airliner nation. airliner nation and formation.ini can be found with any of my airliner releases, and it would add more variety to the skies and flight lines, esp as many airlines would get pressed into service or chartered during a conflict no reason why this retired Soldier would want the Army represented

1 pointNorth American (Rockwell) F-100G Super Sabre - 131st TFS, 104th TFW, Massachusetts ANG, 1982 President James Earl 'Jimmy' Carter started his presidency in January 1977 with a detailed review of the US military budget and his most high-profile decision was the cancellation of the Rockwell B-1A bomber programme in June 1977. But many smaller programmes were cut or cancelled too along with the postponement of the re-equipping of TAC and ANG units with new aircraft types. F-16A and A-10A production was slowed down and many TAC and ANG units were instructed to hold on to their F-100's and F-105's for an indefinate period. In a genuine (but actually insulting) compensatory gesture Rockwell were given a $45million contract to upgrade 90 F-100D's for continued service with the ANG with the aircraft emerging from their Columbus, Ohio plant as F-100G's with refurbished engines, partially re-skinned wings and minor avionics upgrades. The first unit to receive F-100G's was the 131st Tactical Fighter Squadron based at Barnes Municipal Airport in Westfield who had been scheduled to convert from the F-100D to A-10A's but instead received F-100G's which served until 1986. Once again, big thanks to Henrik (hgbn) for uploading his F-100D template.
