3 pointsMajor programs are written using text based files, which are then compiled into compact efficient binary code files that are very efficient in size and speed. It can be painful and extremely time consuming extrapolating those exe's and dll's back into useful, comprehensible source code that will successfully re-compile back into a files that are nearly identical to the original files. There are people that can do that, but why? It is easier to start over with your own new source code if you understand programming and flight simulation enough to reverse engineer the compiled files.

2 pointsMainly to motivate myself, I made an initial test regarding using 3D assets from SF2 in the open source flight simulator FlightGear. Since FlightGear uses the same 3D graphics library (OpenSceneGraph) that I also use in the LODViewer, I could easily reuse my LOD file loader plugin with only minor modification. This is only an initial test. There are still a lot things to do regarding 3D models: animations, shader adaption, .... not to mention reimplementing the SF2 FDM in FlightGear. But maybe some day... TWs P-51D at Honolulu International (the current FlightGear default airport). Note the missing landing gear caused by nonworking animations: Cockpit view:

2 pointsDear friends, due to medical problems I will be missing from here for a while, so our collegue and friend YAKAROV79 will take over , and after all tweaks are ready (they are close to ready) he will release, in my behalf, the planes, for both SF1 and SF2. Please say a pray for me. Thank you all for all these happy years beside YOU.

1 pointView File VFA-136 CAG 2011 This is a skin depicting the CAG jet of VFA-136 during I believe 2011 or so. Since I'm going off of a few reference shots (thanks to Svetlin for a handy reference file) it is the best I can manage with what I have, so it should be close enough. Simply add to the FA-18E_BlkII folder and go fly. Name on the dropdown menu is VFA-136 CAG 2011 Submitter EricJ Submitted 09/26/2019 Category F-18

1 pointyou may want to reduce the opacity of the numbers and lettering (for a grey skin i recommend around 40 to 50%, 70 for a full viz) otherwise its looking awesome. a different replacement to the Argus

1 pointFlight Gear is open source. What it doesn't have, can be added. If more people worked on flight gear voluntarily, it could have already passed up the payware sims. I periodically download and try it ever couple of years, especially after major releases. But the available library is a motley crew. Some aircraft are up-to-date examples of what can be done with the current release, most are old with poor visual quality and/or poor systems/flight modeling. Flight Gear is proof of what can be accomplished with open source and all-volunteer labor... a solid sim with tons of potential. But it is also proof of what cannot be done: its present form is far behind in visual quality to its payware competitors like FSX, P3d, and X-Plane. But with some real support from combat flight sim fans, it could quickly evolve to be better than SF2 in terms of the aircraft and systems modeling. But like FSX/P3d with TacPack, it is a long road to becoming a decent combat flight sim with lots of AI controlled objects that interact and fight with realistic sensors, weapons, etc. Since it is free, everyone who likes flight sims should try Flight Gear. It can be a paradise for modders.

1 pointgiven all the effort i put into Buffs recently (and plans for Bones and Switchblades) it would be cool to take off from KI Sawyer or Pease and fly all the way to Russia watching with some interest

1 pointProgressing on skin work for the upcoming F-22A Raptor addon. There will be a separate, huge skinpack featuring various fictional and alternative camouflages and paint schemes. Here below a comparison between the pre-production and production paint schemes and layouts. EMD 91-4001 Prototype USAF Lo-Viz Grey Among the featured paint schemes of the skinpack, there will be a recreation of the fictional USAF desert camouflage as found in Novalogic's F-22 Lightning 3 videogame. F22L3 features a fictional F-22 squadron (namely the 14th TFS, 9th AESOG) taking part in numerous dangerous operations all over the world, including nuclear strikes on enemy WMDs. Here below a comparison between Novalogic's original skin and the recreated one. Novalogic's F-22 Lightning 3 14th Fighter Squadron, 9th Air Expeditionary Special Operations Group

1 pointHello everybody, We're in the second half of September and this means that the next update 3.201 isn't far away. This one will be massive and will bring a lot of new content as well. Three player controllable aircraft, AI bomber, new AI ground vehicles and of course, the new map - Rheinland. This map tops the records once again: 130 000 square kilometers of reachable terrain (401 x 324 km), 176 000 square kilometers total size (461 x 384 km), 225 cities and towns - a record number of big cities, 70 airfields - 67 of them have historically correct layout recreated using archive documents. For increased detail and historical accuracy, for the first time, we have used 4 airfield types on the same map - with concrete, metal, and unpaved runways and airstrips without runways. To populate the map with European buildings on such a large scale new 'construction kit' of European city blocks was created - this allowed to represent highly populated cities while keeping the general layout of the city where they belong. There are new models for big factories and many unique buildings and we also actively used the bridges 'construction kit' which has been developed previously. Landscape features, especially in the hilly areas - deep river valleys, hills covered by forests and small reclusive towns create a special atmosphere. Let's return to the urbanized areas - we're happy to announce that we were able to create a tech that allows displaying buildings three times farther than before. Rendering at such distances because of the enormous amount of buildings visible at the same time required heavy use of multi-threaded tech to prepare the data. We have made this feature optional for simmers that have a weaker PC. For such a map as Rheinland with many cities and towns, it really improves the perspective and the overall feel. Of course, it is useful for other maps too - for instance, it allows bomber pilots to spot their targets significantly sooner. And as we announced before, for Bodenplatte we created AI ground vehicles with increased model and texture detail, 13 new types in total. You can discuss the news in this thread

1 pointok then...but is he aware of modders community that could (hypothetically) work on a thing or two...only if he has a little good will? Because he is always complaining of things that the company can not afford... But there are other ways...not only fundraising. With little help and encourage this game could be much more long time ago. I wonder why he is insisting in that W10 update...since it is old game and not so very popular ( "100 people buying them...") In case - I did not contributed...was planning to..but I concluded that It will be better (mainly for me - same expense) if I will buy SF2 super pack (since i miss one or two DLC)

1 pointAnd that is just the stock game out of the box! Most if not all of the AI aircraft have mods available to make them flyable, many complete with decent cockpits. Countless other aircraft are available for free. Entire mod packages for NATO, Vietnam, Korea, Desert Storm, and many others exist. Besides having an obsolete terrain engine, the main limitations of the game are the absence of multiplayer and the inability to record and playback missions. This is a great deal for those that never got into SF2. But as good as it is, I barely fly it any more because DCS World gives me nearly everything the SF series did AND has all the "missing" features like drag chutes, ejection sequences, refueling, exceptional multiplayer support, helicopters, etc. Plus it has state of the art graphics and decent VR support. Once Belsimtek releases the F-4E, my only reason to come back to SF2 is for the century series fighters and some of the Korean War types like my favorite, the F2H-2 Banshee.

1 point25 February 1975. Brigadier General Charles E. Yeager of USAF made his final flight as an active duty Air Force pilot, flying YF-4E 65-0713 named Glamorous Glennis. 10,131.6 flight hours were accumulated by him during his service. He retired a few days later 1 March 1975. after 12 222 days of service.
