Took a looooong break from modding, but trying to find time and get back into it. Sure, it can be done - here are a few mock-ups for example with different styles. Obviously not sure about desired height of smoke plume color, thickness, etc. but this is just to demo one approach and prove of course that it can be done.

Yeah, sorry on my end too. I won't remove the DL. But perhaps put some kinda of notice next to it. I did everything I knew to get the game running. I'm not sure what's going on. I would hope you keep the thread going though, if it comes up again, so I can read about it. Thanks for EAWPRO VBH, it was interesting fun. :) and for those wondering, you should give it a try.

Disclaimer: this may or may not work... Step 1: One thing that you could try is hex edit the LOD so that the texture file format is a .tga. Alternatively, if it's your own 3d model, map the mesh with a tga. in 3ds Max and then re-export. Step 2: Convert the existing texture (I'm guessing it's a .bmp or a .jpg) to a tga, make sure it's got a transparency alpha channel enabled. (Would need to use a image editing software like Gimp, Photoshop etc.) Step 3: Compare the UV map of the pilot LOD against the pilot texture so you know where each node of the mesh is mapped on the texture. (You can use mue's LOD viewer to export the UV map of a LOD) Step 4: Delete the pixels of the alpha channel texture where you want the node of the pilot mesh to disappear (you can 'paint' them black in Photoshop). Again... this may or may not work...

There are active 'steam vents' on the volcanos on the Kamchatka terrain revamp I did. IIRC, used the smokestack effect attacked to a oildrum1 object. I think, other than using swambast very cool effect (and cinder cone) maybe the 'sam trail effect' smoke could be use (it's white-ish) like is used for reactor cooling towers
