6 pointsIn summer 1940 the Battle of France was fought. British, belgian, dutch and french troops were defeated by the "Sichelschnitt", a surprising move invented by General von Manstein. In his book "Verlorene Siege" wrote v.Manstein, that his Divison got the order as part of the 9th Armee to take part in the invasion of England in an area between Bexhill and Eastbourn, Beachy Head. Close to Hastings, the last battlefield where a invasion of the islands was succesfully. Manstein wrote, that the german leadership had, after the surprisingly fast victory over France, had no plan how to continuing the war. So it came to a delay till the decision was made to try the "Operation Seelöwe" and as preludium the Air Battle of Britain. Manstein said, that if the decison to engage England would have made one or two weeks after the victory over France, german landing forces would have landed on Englands beaches around August 15th 1940. Mansteins idea to fight England was a surprise attack with no previous Air Battle. All should end in a major Battle, The Luftwaffe, Heer and Kriegsmarine should attack at the same time. For Manstein the british ground forces were the minor problem. They lost nearly all heavy weapons in Dunekirk, so that the Royal Army would have been no real danger. Dangerous could become the Air Force and the Royal Navy. But Manstein wrote, that the Royal Navy would come to late to prevent the landing of the first german wave. The Royal Navy would try to stop the second and all other landing waves. At this time it would be the job of the Luftwaffe to sink the british ships and the job of the Royal Air Force to protect the british ships. In the last weeks i have started to rework the tileset of my very old Battle of Britain terrain and soon i will start to rebuild the target areas, so that we have the chance to fight a "Operation Seelöwe" style battle in SF2. Here some screenshots while WIP. New farmtiles, but still old airfield tile. New airfield tile. A mixture between old and new coast tiles. View from high altitutes. Test of a London tile. Buckingam palace is not yet on correct place.

5 pointsI love building out installs for unusual or rarely covered air battles. This time, I'm working on a fictional one including Menrva's Madagascar terrain. A fictional conflict over oil rights in Madagascar. Western oil companies purchase oil rights from corrupt politicians. The common folk get nothing, not even jobs. A violent insurgency arises. Western nations side with petroleum companies. African and South American nations side with the insurgents. Through unspoken agreement, no nation sends frontline equipment, wary of appearing like the bully. The US claims it's only sending trainer and recon aircraft. "It's not a real 'shooting war' after all." ---US Secretary of State Here's a video: The Coin War

1 pointIn the wake of the news that Strike Fighters 2 is being bundled up into one and some of the comments on the forum, maybe we should list what should be in a Strike Fighters 3. I don't speak for or from the developers so don't get excited. But this can only help, urge them to please make a SF3. Here goes my list. First, the must-haves: Backwards compatibility with SF2 aircraft & terrain The ability for aircraft to target more than one target in missions & campaigns due to modern precision weapons The bug removed of telling a bomber wingman to attack a target The ability to control a two-ship formation the same as a four-ship True stealth/RCS capability for fourth & fifth gen fighters A Su-35, SU-34, F-15EX and F-35 modern warfare pak Now for the fantasy stuff... and don't ask me to prioritize this just yet: Some serious modern fleets - I'd start with the USN, PLAN, Taiwanese, Russian, British, French, Italian, Australian, and yes Japanese. More detailed maps and mission planning The option to use photoscenery in making maps. A tutorial how to write a campaign The ability to see in 3D where you place objects on the maps - Jane's Fighters Anthology had that ability in the late 1990s. Situational awareness plummeting without an allied AWACS in the air A helicopter sim mode with Seahawk, Knighthawk and Blackhawk models - for starters. Real Environment Xtreme (REX) weather goodies - even if just better textures and a simple weather control interface. But the freeware third-party mod I got are almost REX-quality. Aerial refueling Artillery that can be controlled from the strike lead or division lead aircraft... Good start, eh?

1 pointLife in the Danger Zone: I followed that guy around for about 10 minutes trying to get get an awesome high alpha Aphid launch screen shot but the new higher AoA capability is proving to be quite useless during dog fights. The speed loss is very rapid and any potential firing solution is gone in an instant. I was down to about 135kts when I took the screen shot. The higher AoA is sometimes useful for defensive purposes if you have a stubborn EA on the tail. The rapid speed loss can force an overshoot but the sink rate gets very high at idle power and low speed so altitude must be carefully watched. After messing up the first attempt at a Bis FM update I going to change this project to a general review and potential updates for all the MiG-21's. I think the weapon rack weight adjustments are useful and a new 800L centerline drop tank would be nice. The MiG-23 800L "stand in" is good for now but it has an oval shape and conflicts a bit with the MiG-21 landing gear doors. I found an interesting document on basic delta wing aerodynamics so I settled on an approach to use for the modified FM. I won't get into details at this point but it involves transferring lift from the outer aft to the inner forward wing panel to model the vortex break down which moves from aft/outboard to forward/inboard. According to the document, the vortex breakdown starts in the 20-25 deg AoA range. Still some testing to do but should have a Bis test FM ready before year end. Will also include a modified FM for the MiG-21F. It's over 1000kg/2200lbs lighter than the Bis so might be more effective at high AoA. Or not.

1 pointFinally guys, after trying for to long and many methods, I finally made strike fighters 2 play on the CV1 (on 2d mode, when i succeed on 3d, I'll post back). Actually it was so easy, that I can't believe the time I spent with various programs, trying over and over again.. First of all you need Virtual desktop. The only thing i changed is to Allow injection. Then I loaded the game. You will hear the music on your Headphones, but you will have a blank picture on the Headset. That was the main problem most of us had, no game picture. What I found by mistake is if you hold ALT+TAB realease TAB NOT ALT and wait for a couple of seconds you will see the image in your headset. Holding ALT and press again TAB until you go to strike fighters window and wait to see the image again. You will see the game playing normally on your headset. The game goes Blank on the headset 3 times, first on start up, then on loading screen and finaly when you play. Every time you have a black screen use the method that i have discrabed to you. WARNING If you put off your HMD and goes off the game will remain blank and won't come back. Also, during the game if you press ALT+TAB again the game will go blank and won't come back. For Headtracking most of you are familliar with opentrack, so I use opentrack with oculus riftruntime 1.4.0. input. I put a picture i took, with my phone from the right lense, sorry for the poor quality. My specs are Intel I7 4790 3.60 Hz, 16GB RAM, GTX 1070 Ti.

1 pointGepard, don't forget I did a rebuild of your terrain in 2013. If not too much is changed, you might be able to copy/paste many of my target area. Certaintly, there's a bunch of ground & terrain objects you can use! Please feel free to do so!!

1 pointHi all, long time since I’ve posted. First, I don’t know much about modding as the most I’ve done was trying to shoehorn LGBs off a F-100 and some minor skinning. Combatace in general has been the modding nest for flight sims on the internet. Probably the most talented group of individuals in existence who always shared what they knew to help others. There is a small group in DCS trying to bring to life the F-105D at a FC3 level of playability or greater. Is the WTR modding group still around? I know they had at one point created a new detailed F-105D, cockpit and had researched the Thud immensely. Seems they have pruned back their webpage including their contact information. At this point, research has begun and we’re looking for a 3D model or modeler. Pretty sure we could use some advice on it all.

1 pointPlay the stock game for a bit. Find out what you don't like about the stock game and then try to find mods that fix those problems. The stock game is pretty impressive though, despite its bugs and limitations. The main complaint are the dated terrain graphics. You can find mods that provide major texture upgrades and mods that defeat the "newer" drawing distance limitations introduced in later patches. The best/most famous mods are complete additions, with some delivered as a "package" while others have to be searched for and downloaded as many, many individual components: NATO Fighters 5: Adds countless aircraft mods, some that you may not find available individually/only in this mod. I think the five (V) version was the last official release for SF2E, but there are probably some newer updates for it. Vietnam / Green Hell: I can't remember the name, but there is a comprehensive Vietnam upgrade that is comparable to the NATO addon, plus there are various terrain texture updates, most being a variation of the "Green Hell" addon. Operation Desert Storm: like NATO, this is a fairly comprehensive addon with some unique additions. For me, the one that is an absolute necessity is Korea for SF2. It isn't a single addon but an endless list of components that you must hunt down and download separately: terrain, aircraft, etc. All of these addons are getting very old and some modders have updated some of the components in them such as specific aircraft. I can't even give you the correct names of the above mods to aid your search for the best content, much less list all the updates that have occurred in recent years. Besides Korea, my favorite thing is the get the best looking, best-modeled variants of every single aircraft available for the game. For example, there are packages for the F-101 Voodoo. Some are newer, but aren't necessarily better. Sometimes you have to mix mods to get the best result: i.e. the newer mod has better textures, but the older mod has historically correct weapons, engines, etc. It is absolutely overwhelming how much content is available at CombatAce. If that wasn't enough, there is a private rogue site that splintered away from the main community, The A-Team Skunkworks. You have to request to join to access their content and they won't let you download too much at any one time or they will ban you, but they have content you can't get anywhere else: http://cplengineeringllc.com/SFP1/ But go back to my first statement: play the game stock for a while. There is already more to do there than you can possibly comprehend if you are a first time SF2 player. Then start out by downloading an airplane or two you really like, but isn't in the game. Then try adding skins or maybe a terrain or upgrading terrain textures. There is no shortage of things to learn/experiment with. The flight sim community at large wrongly bypassed this game. It is still one of the best available as long as you don't need multiplayer or advanced terrain modeling.
