3 pointsCross posted from a post by me on Mudspike talking about vorpX: So this was some fun single-mission action while I was doing some testing. The thing I really like about SF2 (at least my modded version) is that I can see the enemy bullets coming at me and can react to them. Ultra realistic? Maybe not..but it is FUN! Particularly toward the end of this mission, I can see the anti-aircraft artillery chasing my wingman across the sky ahead, and can see the tracers and puffs of smoke from the enemy that is shooting at him, so I'm able to roll in on it has its attention on him. For VR, I'm probably going to need to pull those wingman menus and other onscreen text closer to the middle edges of the screen since I can only barely see them in VR. Though I could just map a different button to the "edge peek" function of vorpX - right now it defaults to the middle mouse button. Edge peek just lets you hit the button and the whole screen zooms out to allow you to see the entire screen in a theater type mode..it is quick, efficient, does not affect the game, and works. You have to love the anti-aircraft artillery effects in SF2 as well. The thump and pop of the shells blowing up near you, the smoke puffs, and the occasional hits on your fuselage..all are fantastic. My loadout on this mission were CBUs, 500 pound bombs, and rockets. I also like to modify the aircraft INI file to allow for larger bomb intervals. Many of them are like 20,50,100 choices and I prefer 50, 200, 300 to give me a nice spread of bombs that usually result in better results. And yes, I'm using a modified cockpit other than the one that usually is installed with the A-1 (Dells created the original) - this cockpit borrows the F-8 Crusader cockpit, and I just like it..purists can string me up... Regarding wingman commands - I could see where this game might benefit from voice activated wingman commands via Voice Attack or something. I'll have to investigate that. And finally - this sim/game in its modded state would be absolutely KILLER in multi-player. You know you want to do it TK - so do it!

2 pointsI had a similar topic here: https://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=51343 But note that the people there have a very high tolerance (or even preference) for old games.

2 pointsEin Schritt nach dem anderen. Step by step. As usual in the last years i think a terrain would be an easy and fast job. Could be finished for X-mas And then it becomes bigger and bigger. And then comes in my mind: "X-mas okay! But which year?"

2 pointsOk Pappy - I'll have to clean the dust of my F-86H Sabre 'HOG' book and refresh my cobwebs. Looking good Brother - outstanding work! Glad to see this member of the Sabre family finding it's way into SF series. Mandatory pic: "Fictional rendition of a late F-80C"

1 pointMostly being stunningly incompetent* and bribing publishers to get exclusives from under Steam and crowd-funders, without regards for the consumer's or developer's best interest (despite crowing about how they're all about developers). * I mean, it's 2020, they've had their store for more than a year now, and having a wishlist or a shopping cart to purchase more than one game at once are still considered as some futuristic tech they don't see implementing before at least 6 months... How incompetent can you be ?

1 pointGood to hear it works for ya' GKABS..! This morning, prompted by another user, I gave IL-2: 1946 (modded) a whirl and am very impressed with how it looks and the gameplay. I could use a slightly wider FOV (I might look into a mod for that), but overall it is really nice. Some pics and videos here: https://forums.mudspike.com/t/vorpx-impressions/9628/42

1 pointJust tested your setting you are on the dime, excellent job. Except I set the head tracking sensitivity to 1.50 as its more to my liking.

1 pointExcellent job beachav8r, I will be getting my PC by this weekend from the repair shop and I will try these setting and give you my feedback.

1 pointTie fighter is still up there, I war too.......but there are so many new ones, they all start to look the same, I cannot bring myself to buy Elite, so I have to say Evochron may need a litttle checking out as it does look pretty cool, still wish they did a half decent Babylon 5 that would be superb.

1 pointAre you interested in some older ones? If so I can put together a list for you.

1 pointYou'll need access to the F-100D_DATA.INI file. If this isn't available then you'll have to extract it. Once you have access to DATA, it's a case of tinkering with things like: EmptyMass SLThrustDry (non-AB engine thrust) SLThrustWet (AB thrust) You'll also want to have a look at the Control Surfaces, especially the Right and Left Stabilisers. If you haven't already, I'd highly recommend reading the Knowledge section. And I'd also recommend downloading Notepad++ if you're going to make a habit of INI editing as it's a million times better than standard Notepad.

1 pointOK, so VIEWLIST.INI does hold the key to overall game field of view settings. Interestingly though, it wasn't my experience that the FOV value changed the in-headset FOV. It was OffsetDistance that seems to widen and narrow the field of view in the headset. So you'll have to tinker with the OffsetDistance and the vorpX overlay menu to find the setting that both fills your entire view in the headset, and doesn't appear to be too zoomed in. One slight artifact of messing with OffsetDistance is that there appears to be a slight 3D distortion perhaps..hard to explain, that you quickly recognize after the change, but quickly goes away as your eyes and brain adjust to it. I haven't settled on these settings, but I'm getting close. The takeaway in this ini listing is the OffsetDistance change to -.175 (negative value). [ViewClass002] ViewClassName=CockpitViewClass ViewType=FIXED_VIEW ViewGroupID=1 DefaultView=CockpitFront AllowFromDiffGroup=TRUE SnapView=FALSE InsideView=TRUE FocusObjectOnly=TRUE FOV=120.0 //FOV=60.0 PitchControl=CAMERA_PITCH_AXIS YawControl=CAMERA_YAW_AXIS RollControl= ZoomControl=CAMERA_ZOOM_CONTROL JumpToViewSameGroup=FALSE JumpToViewDiffGroup=TRUE SmoothAngleTransition=TRUE SmoothPositionTransition=FALSE SmoothFOVTransition=TRUE RememberAngle=FALSE RememberFOV=TRUE LimitPitch=TRUE LimitYaw=TRUE LimitRoll=FALSE ZoomFOV=TRUE ZoomScale=0.01 PanScale=0.00160 MinSpeed=100.0 MaxSpeed=10000.0 Acceleration=2000.0 AngleRates=480.0,360.0,360.0 FOVRate=60.0 MinAngles=-135.0,-20.0,0.0 MaxAngles=135.0,110.0,0.0 MinFOV=15.0 MaxFOV=120.0 //OffsetDistance=0.06 OffsetDistance=-.175 TrackIRUseAbsolutePos=TRUE Video through the lens..was clearer and sharper than what is shown here, just trying to mash my phone up into the eye piece... Here you can see my vorpX settings. Important settings: Full VR Mode Pixel 1-1 Image Zoom .75 The .75 works against the FOV setting to make it so that you can't see the edges of the screen in the headset. It feels pretty close to right. I think this would be headset dependent though that would vary with horizontal and vertical FOV...

1 point5-10-15 minutes.. It does not matter. It is still minutes not half-second of ctrl+some key. Grippen video is cool like all peacetime propaganda stuff...Did ever any Grippen been involved in combat? If not then it should be out of the discussion about combat readiness in time of war... as for game.... Flying over target let say 1.5h then combat sortie a few minutes and then head home another 1.5h...rearm and launch again...go (1.5h) over the same target area and of course targets for those 3 + hours were waiting in patience like a virgin on Friday night... Guess pilot in a real situation will be overused quickly... I can understand the need of refuel and rearm for some FOB's Harriers, choppers and similar stuff flying short quick CAS mission on the frontline...on a dynamic campaign (which is unavailable in this game).

1 pointOK, I can finally move SF2 Vietnam Expansion up into the WORKING category! I did a total clean reinstall of that mod and right now it is working. Now to add in some of the mods that I had added to that to juice things up a bit....

1 pointBattle of Britan 2 "Operation Seelöwe" terrain. Recon mission. Target London. South of Canterbury heading north west. We are closing the estuary of river Themse. Flak fire and intercepted by Spitfires over London City. (Temporary tiles for the London parks) Escaped the Spits near Tower Bridge. Successfully escaped and now running home.

1 pointHere's another looker I've been tweaking the FM for - will include this one also with an update to the early WW2 SF2 FM package. An "early" Tony - Ki-60 and/or very early Ki-61 - model is by A-team and it took a while to rework the FM but I like the results - top speed about 560 kph @ 4500 m alt. Best climb around 350 kph, 13 m/s or so. Ailerons are okay above about 300 kph but horribly ineffective below 250 kph. Rudder is ok. Also avoid loops if your speed is less than about 300 kph, tends to spin out. Other peculiarities on the type - tends to "sink" if flying too slowly - rather than entering a typical stall. No wonder pilots didn't really like the Ki-60 prototypes and early Ki-61 batch, compared to the more pleasant Ki-43 ("Army Zero"). Having said that, it's a fast type for the early war and works just fine if you avoid tight dogfights with it. Good for slash-and-dash attacks. Von S

1 pointGreat news ! Stoked for Bodenplatte !!! When will it/they be on STEAM ? Cheers !! Misty
-
1 pointThanks for the news. I now have BOK. I bought BOS and BOM a few years ago when there was a Christmas sale, but have been waiting for BOK to come down in price for a while. I don't play these sims enough to justify full price, but I still like to have them and try out new aircraft and features. These games work fairly well in VR. If I wasn't so focused on flying DCS World, I would probably spend a lot more time on this series. Now I am waiting for Bodenplatte to get finished and go through the sale cycle and hopefully the Pacific War isn't too far away.
