In 1983 the USMC barracks in Beirut were suicide bombed causing 241 american deads, 58 french and 6 civilians, the USN reacted bombing Syrian and Hezbollah targets, we join a USN A-7E Corsair squadron on one of those raids in September 1983... Recent talks about Akrotiri AB and the Escort jammed prompted me to design and fly this one, It will be a semi historical mission, created on the fly in the editor, I know the Hornet was not on the carriers back in 1983, but I really like the Saratoga, also I don't used the proper squadrons or skins, but it was historical enough for me, as I tried to use proper planes and weapons, and was damn fun, so wanted to share with you guys, enjoy! Launching The American fleet Our escort Jammers Lebanon coast on my radar Our escort turning to engage FOX 3! The enemies Their happy end Spamming Phoenixes And R-23, unfortunately for him, he had to dodge the Tomcat wingman Sparrow coming his way so the R23 lost guidance. Getting ready to bomb Bombing from several directions at same time, confused the AAA Target destroyed Syrian reacted too late and missile never was a real threat (apart from the Sa-3, got a launch from a nearby Sa-6 too that properly tracked my wingman, as the jammer already departed, but we got out of range) Back to the boat for some late breakfast or early lunch! Was a fun mission, SF2 can still provide fun in a historical way!

I reworked RAF Colerne, because i got better air footage from WW2. I removed some barrack buildings which were built in the 1950th and added two hangars, some shelters and made the airfield bigger.

Thanks guys. Wrench,I've the suspect that will be yhe diameter ,as I checked the DATA.inis of both the nape and planes and only this parameter don't match, but I went to sleep and only this morning made the modification and all work in both the modeed games

Try, for a change, a custom AWACS recon mission, for SF2 , similar to the SF1 counterpart from download section made by me. You take an AWACS model, make it recon &transport role only. Change, if you choose an USA AWACS, the formation type in formation.ini (you will have the AWACS with two escorts , one on each side or 5 symetric escorts, take your pick). Change for AWACS to easyradar so you will be able, like in an AWACS, to pick any air-to-air or air-to-ground target. Modify on each AWACS wing to allow every weapon you need for the escorts. You can add , separately, two fuel tanks so you can choose between two fighters (any other fighter you will choose after fixing the fuel tank names will fly without fuel tanks, obviously, but you can change the names for fuel tanks at anytime or you can create for every AWACS you get two distinct planes for them. Think COUNTRIES! F-14/F15/F-16/F-18/F-22 with a USA AWACS; Rafale with a French one etc) if you want them to load fuel tanks as well. RECON missions are long range ones so you will need fuel for sure, if the ecort fights. In a Soviet type (bomber) formation you can order to two wingmen, instead of one, like in US formation, with one command. No 2 and No3 will take the order and will blast everything in their path. When you have 5 escort planes everything becomes more interesting. You can order the other flight (No4, No5 and No6) to join the fight or send them to other corner to fight other enemy flights or send them to blast ground targets. These type of AWACS missions are my favorite especially when one try to escape with no scratch and your escort 100% alive. Here's some reference from SF1 of the matter: If you are interested PM me and I will assist as needed. Soon I will make something similar for SF2. For now I am busy with other SF2 things.

So......what was happening back in 2011 I wonder? Well there were rumours of a new version of Falcon 4 which was later released by Benchmark Sims (BMS), and in February of that year DCS: A-10C Warthog was released. The Strike Fighters community was eagerly awaiting the release of Strike Fighters 2: North Atlantic - and it was also the year that Combat Ace member Sophocles bit the bullet and decided to get into 3D modelling. Now many years later, he has now released what certainly looks like the best modelled aircraft ever to grace Strike Fighters 2, and that includes all of Thirdwires efforts. Many modder projects start and look promising and then wither and die (especially after so many years) so we decided to ask Sophocles some questions about this project. The F-5A thread starts around 2012 - what year did you start the F-5 model exactly? I started the model in December of 2011. I'd never done any 3d modelling, but I was determined to learn, having done a lot of free-ware/payware texturing work for CFS2 and FS9. What 3D programs do you use to create 3D models? 3dsMax.. It is unusual for someone to stay on a single project after all this time - what has kept you going all these years to continue the project? Well, I spent about a year finishing the external model (learning all the basics as I went along, ie. modelling, mapping, animating) and then another year doing the cockpit.. I'd planned for a release in 2014 but by that time my world caved in together with the Greek economy..) lost my business, house, went through divorce and even lost the dog!! As you can imagine, the last thing on my mind was the F-5A model!!! I tried over the years at times to re-invest in the project, but real life just kept getting in the way... Many Combat Ace members were involved in the project, some actively helping along and contributing in one form or another (will thank and present their contributions in their entirety when the project is complete), others offering encouragement and emotional support (this is the best thing about the Combat Ace community!) but the one individual who for the most part inspired the level of detail in the model; and who subsequently worked the hardest getting the project moving again was Volker (ravenclaw).. without whom the project would not have been revived (post-2017). I really need to get the F-5A out to the community because their support (and patience, LOL!) has been incredible. After this do you think you will continue to do other 3D models on this level? Sure, with all the knowledge and experience I've accumulated over the years, any new projects (and there are a few..) will take a fraction of the time .. given the world doesn't implode...again!!!!! With special thanks to Sophocles you can download Hellenic Air Force F-5A Volume 1 here and looks like there will be more high quality volumes to follow:

I managed to make a usable watermap for VietnamSEA map. I made it in Photoshop. I didn't even need to transform it in RGB , in order to modify it. I did it directly in indexed state and then saved it. In the meantime I will work, experimentaly, to build/modify watermaps for some terrains which won't support carrier operations. Brilliant it worked. I now have a Mirage IVA with an AN-22 nuclear bomb. Already for the SAAF👍🏻. Cheers Jeff

To be honest, it seems to be not possible to make a correct watermap. The bmp which SF2NA is using has a little bit different format than the usual bmp.

Oh that's pretty cool, and not just the Flanker, I'll definitely check that thread often. Never knew that, I'll keep that in mind for any skinning I'll do in the future, thanks.

i´m still working on the rocket pods , i may release them first because of the large file size of the Weapon Pack 3 , but it will still take some time

Right here in the downloads section or at the 3rd Wire site remember, there are 2 editors, one for 'Desert' the other for WoE/WoI/WoV (and SF2E, SF2V, SF2I) terrains. Although the later can be used for everything, if properly set up. Good Luck. You'll need it! These are NOT for the faint of heart
