2 pointsHello, all the brothers-at-wings. I present to you a small selection of skins for a wonderful Nieuport-17 by Geezer. This is my first experience that I decided to publish, so please do not judge me very harshly. I do not think that this work deserves to be laid out in the Download section, but I hope someone will like them. In any case, all the credit belongs to Geezer, since I just used his works. So, what's in the archive? The "Dux" folder represents you the most correct type of the Russian Nieuport-17, built at the Moscow Dux Plant. The specific Russian roundels - a distinctive feature of the Dux-built aircraft - were applied in 14 positions. This generic scheme is also well suited for the Nieuport-21, although it needs a small correction (the 'leuvers' drawn on the sides of the aircraft and the elevator control wires do not match). The following three folders represent the 19th Air Squadron (19th Corps Air Detachment or 19th KAO) of the 1st Air Combat Group (1st BAG) - perhaps the most famous aviation detachment of old Russia. 1st BAG fighters had no marked external differences as far as markings were concerned, but the scull of the unit emblem was slightly different on each individual aircraft. A pair of Nieuport-17s represented a staff flight. Capitan (of cavalry) Alexander Kozakov, Commander of a 1st Air Combat Group, flew on a French-built Nieuport-17 in Summer-Autumn 1917. Kozakov’s assistant, pod’esaul (Cossacks sub-Capitan) Shanghin was using a Russian-made aircraft at the time. Since Shanghin kept aloof from his command duties, the actual commander of the 19th Air Squadron was Boris "Bob" Huber. In the "19th KAO" folder is the standard skin, typical of the aircraft of the 19th Air Squadron, where there were aircraft of both French and Russian production. The rudder bore the “Adam’s Head” - the emblem of the 19th KAO. This generic scheme can also be used for Nieuport-21. Finally, the "3rd KAO" folder contains an interesting paint scheme of another Russian aviation unit. It correctly represents the aircraft built in France for delivery to Russia. The Indian’s head was the emblem of the 3rd Air Squadron (3rd Corps Air Detachment). The serial number is fictitious; the colors of the squad emblem are supposedly given. All you need is to simply place the unzipped files in your Nieuport17c folder and start the game. New skins will be available for selection in the Loadout menu. https://oldbrowser.files.fm/u/ga6a2ywd

1 pointI'm an idiot user, but can plainly see that EAW versions of games are best served by having more than one forum. After all, if the primary depositary goes extinct, where will all the info reside? We have all seen extinct sites, and doing so is a very sad thing because all the work the modders that contributed to such extinct sites was in vain. So, let's not let it happen again. As is said in the armed forces, "Two is one, and one is none". May I ask that EAW users not only post on alternate sites, but copy and paste their comments/posts here? Doing so would support the game overall, not to mention this site. The primary goal is support of the EAW/UAW sim, and NOT any particular Site. FWIW, I have zero connection in regards this site. I humbly ask your consideration for the good of the EAW sim, and all its variants.

1 pointIn response to RIBoB's clarion call for some commentary here, in order to broaden the appeal of this olden, but golden, game, I include some screenshots of how Version 1.60 looks for me now in D3D 1920x1080 widescreen, with an nVidia 660ti on Windows 7 and run through DGVoodoo 2, with ReShade 4 added (not sure if the latter has any actual effect rather than in my imagination):

1 point'Bomben auf Engeland!' Here I am in our lead Heinkel's dorsal position. The RAF's Fighter Command's aircraft being elsewhere for now, its Anti-Aircraft Command is doing its best to get us. We are flying in three vics of five aircraft, stepped up from front to rear. Somewhat understrength gruppen of fifteen or twenty bombers seem to make up the basic building block of many raids in BoB2. Still no sign or warnings of fighters, so I drop down and move to the nose position. Below and ahead, lies the city of Bristol, with the Bristol Channel to our left...technically I suppose it's the estuary of the River Severn at about this point. I can't yet make out our target, which is on the city's northern outskirts somewhere. This is a broadside view of our aircraft. Like other planes in BoB2, it carries authentic markings - in this case, including the correct geschwader code letters - G1 - for KG55 'Greif', and our unit badge, a red, black-winged griffon on a white shield. The 3d models and textures are not of course up to the latest standards but more than good enough...although to my eye, while the splinter pattern is accurate, the upper surface colours are a little light for Schwarzgrun 70 and Dunkelgrun 71, even allowing for weathering and 'scale effect'. I recall my c.1970 Kookaburra Aircraft of the Battle of Britain said some bombers were field-repainted in lighter shades they call 'woods and meadows' for better summer airfield camouflage, but that may be an urban myth. Anyway we make a fine sight as we run in towards Filton. Ahead of us, the leading gruppe of Heinkels must be at the target by now. However, the English flak seems to be concentrating on what I believe is the leading part of our Bf110 fighter escort, as it turns away to port. I didn't notice at the time, but more worryingly, there's a gaggle of aircraft sliding across from the right in this picture, coming up from the south. You can also see the text at bottom indicating that the target has been sighted and called in. Filton's aero works is actually at an airfield, which is the large grassy area a few mils right of where the text string ends. Nearly there now! The leading gruppe has hit an area of buildings on the south-western edge of the target area. At this point, a lot of things happen at once, not all of them good. Our bomb bay doors open, but we are near-missed by flak, while being suddenly attacked from head on by Spitfires! Where they came from I don't know, but they're gone as suddenly as they appeared. Belatedly, sighting reports come up on the intercom, of aircraft and air fights up ahead. It's hard to make much sense of what's going on up there. It looks like our lead gruppe may have got away on the left, but our 110 escort is hotly engaged with enemy fighters, slightly right of our current course. Possibly, the Spits who attacked us were a few who managed to break through. Hopefully, that will be the last we see of them. Meanwhile, more sticks of bombs can be seen to have fallen on the complex to the east of the airfield. Not from us, we haven't dropped yet. Finally it's our turn to let fly. Our bombs also fall on the buildings to the east, exploding as we make our turn to get away. Well, we have earned our Reichmarks for the day, flight pay included. Time to go home! The question now is, whether or not the Tommies will let us get away scot free. ...to be continued!

This all new model with hi-res textures is the first of three new Gladiators for FE/FE2. Dedicated SF2 versions will be released shortly. A lot of guys helped me develop these models, particularly Baffmeister (new FMs), LloydNB (Sea Gladiator skins), and Stephen1918 (file bashing). Software problems prevented me from including battle damage TGA files, so the raw artwork will be posted separately as "Holes" so you can make your own TGAs. Enjoy. THIS MODEL IS ONLY TO BE DISTRIBUTED AS FREEWARE AND IN NO OTHER CIRCUMSTANCE SHALL IT BE USED, EVEN IN PART, OF ANYTHING THAT IS PAYWARE, IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE COMBAT ACE MODDERS AGREEMENT. -
