Apparently some of the Morane-Saulnier type G variants also had Anzanis installed (trainer variants bought as early as 1912 by the French, also some in possession by the Germans, and the Dux factory in Moscow obtained a license to manufacture them, by 1914). Have been busy tweaking FMs for these early, underpowered variants, and will include them with a ver. 9.1 FM update pack - they work well for early war scenarios and/or flight training . Most were removed from service by the second half of 1915, although, oddly, the Russians continued using them as trainers well into the 1920s. Some of the earliest types used in the war, by 1914, included the M-S type G. Slightly longer wingspan on them than the type H (especially for two-seater variants) - not so much for single-seater variants. Typical powerplants included the 60hp Gnome Omega, also the 6-cylinder Anzani (about 50-60hp). Also in use was the 45hp Anzani (possibly 3-cylinder) and the 25hp variant - sometimes designated as subtypes 16 and 17 by the French (and used as trainers). Detailed stats. on the types are lacking but, comparing with Bleriot XI variants, and the M-S type H, I think the tweaks should work well. Great fun trying to keep these in the air. Happy flying and happy new year!, Von S

We like the diection of our WTR Jungle - but the best part is the new approach and techniques that not only provides a much more dense and immersive jungle but also maintains awesome performance / FPS (see early screenie).

LOL! Don't feel bad, the MG position drove me crazy when I first began researching Nieuports. The confusion probably started with the British Nieuports not always being supplied with guns, and sometimes not even engines. With so many British machines using centrally-mounted guns, it was easy to assume the central location was "normal." You probably have the drawing below, showing the offset position.

So, my Windstock datafile is wrong. It's difficult to have good books about WWI planes. The info varies greatly depending the book.

Factually incorrect. The first French synchronizer to see widespread service was the Alkan-Hamy gear, available just in time for installation in Nieuport 17s in mid-1916. The Alkan-Hamy's cam follower was offset to the right, so the gun had to be mounted slightly to the right. The British used several other synchronizer gear systems, such as Vickers-Challenger or Sopwith-Kauper, so other types WERE installed but the offset Alkan-Hamy was the factory standard for the N17. First shot below shows the Alkan-Hamy gear, but with a British Hyland Type A cocking handle.

Sorry, I don't want to be picky, but I think your model is a Nieuport 23, instead the Nieuport 17. The 17 one had the vickers at the centre while the 23 had the vickers slightly startboard. Nevertheless, a very good work!

Thanks - just an old geezer puttering around in his digital garage. VonS and I are working on extensive improvements to a bunch of Nieuports. I noticed you released a mod pack some time ago that added a Lewis gun to already existing Nieuport aircraft. Would you be interested in making a new version of your old pack, using our new models, art, and files?

My understanding is that the Israeli's were attacked from both the South and the North and were nearing defeat and had to consider using a tactical nuclear weapon or lose the fight for the survival of their nation. But eventually their ground forces managed to repulse both the Syrian attack in the Golan and the Egyptian thrust in the Sinai and the need for a tactical nuclear strike was averted. When you are faced with overwhelming odds and the possibility of being wiped off the map, how many of us would consider using the ultimate weapon against an aggressor and face The Sum of all Fears for real. ????
