6 pointsGrumman Intruder S.1 - No.214 Squadron, RAF Bomber Command, 1966 In 1963, with the Mark 2 versions of the Vulcan and Victor becoming the spearhead of Bomber Command, four Valiant squadrons (49, 148, 207 and 214) were assigned to SACEUR forming a powerful strike wing based at Marham in Norfolk. But during the summer of 1964 fatigue cracks were discovered in the front and rear wing spars of several aircraft and whilst serious consideration was given to a rebuild programme the estimated unit cost of this was close to the original price of a Valiant so a rebuild programme was ruled out. However, when further cracks were discovered the RAF reluctantly grounded the Valiant in December 1964. In January 1965, this lead to Denis Healey (Minister of Defence) declaring that the Valiant situation was "causing considerable embarrassment for us with our NATO allies" and that an interim solution was urgently being sought "to restore our missing strike power and commitment to SACEUR". With US President Lyndon Johnson already critical of Harold Wilson's refusal to commit British troops to Vietnam, Wilson and Healey needed a quick solution and in February 1965 they pulled off a deal with the US Government and the Grumman Aircraft Engineering Corporation to take 60 A-6K Intruder aircraft straight off the Grumman production line at Bethpage. Designated as the Intruder S.1 and finished in anti-flash white the A-6K's were optimised for the nuclear strike role armed with American Mk28 (B-61) free-fall tactical nuclear bombs before switching to the UK WE.177B in late 1966. Entering service with No.214 squadron in June 1965 the RAF's Intruder S.1 force built up at RAF Marham before being transferred to RAF Geilenkirchen during the Spring of the following year.

2 pointsIs the Mirage Factory team able to make a proper cockpit for their F-14D mod? I love the fact that they have put so much effort into making the F-14 Superpack as realistic as is possible within SF2, except for the F-14D cockpit. It appears to use the exact same pit as the F-14B, even though the Super Tomcat had some of its gauges rearranged to allow for 2 MFDs. At left is what is currently included. At right is what the real F-14D Cockpit looked like. I don't know if TMF has anything like this in the works, but if not, I just wanted to remind them (i'm sure they already know given the realism of the other F-14 variants).
-
2 pointsWhen the Superpack became a thing (~2012), the team decided to use the F-14B cockpit that was already in use in the original F-14A/B release from 2010, which was further revised when TW released SF2:NA and actually allowed for the F-14's unique displays. We didn't ever have an F-14D cockpit, so we just adjusted the avionics and radar a bit using the same cockpit, and that was the solution until an F-14D cockpit proper could be made, though no one had any plans for one. To date, still no plans I know of exist, unless yakarov is serious in his comment in which case, good luck and I'd love to see it!

2 pointsYes folks, the LRASM can be shot down.... just as much as the ASM-3 hypersonic missiles. From a Nihon Hitori 2020 anti-ship mission with some LRASMs as a test:

2 pointsrevisiting an old mod that set me down my current path..... now with nose arts cool thing is, given my fetish for camo as tga, the Shamu can be draped over both the blue and white and the current grey schemes effectively. dont judge the SAC band, still getting things dialed in

2 pointsFormation of 4 Mirage IIIEZ fly low level to avoid early radar acquisition... Their target is a training camp in Cahama. They dropped bombs Anti-aircraft artillery was expected... ZU-23s were seen firing from two different directions... SA-7 gunners were also present... However even though almost all missiles tracked the targets, Mirages accelerated and missiles missed... During the last raid a single Mirage released its ordnance and started accelerating while climbing... Only seconds before impact an another pilot saw a small missile getting very close... Mirage IIIEZ suffered critical damage and was shot down... While the formation was returning back to base they realized that an another aircraft had been hit by 23mm guns at right wing... Damaged aircraft landed safely and grounded for the necessary repairs. After some days it became operational.

2 pointsAfter more than a year from its first release, the much appreciated realSKY mod has received a major update. This is a glimpse of what to expect; Added different cloud textures for each weather type. Rebalanced sky colours; twilights have been reworked to be more dramatic and atmospheric, whilst keeping realism as the main aim. Here below, screenshots taken during Scattered weather (plus two suggestive shots with Broken weather). Notice the different cloud texture between the two, and the complete twilight transition. Following a suggestion by baffmeister, the realSKY mod will now include alternative files which provide different weather effects for Inclement; you can choose between thunderstorm (default), sandstorm (for hot, desert terrains) and snowstorm (for cold, icy terrains). Reworked rain effects; lightnings are now rare, added new rain drops as a camera view effect. Added alternative environment files for snowstorm and sandstorm effects. Screenshots show the new effects (especially the ones that look best when the camera is fixed). Sandstorm weather features darker, brownish fog. Snowstorm features a brighter fog than thunderstorm. Suggested by tiopilotos, the mod now will feature additional tweaks for some stock game effects, namely contrails, wingtip vortexes and exhaust emitters. Added better contrail effect (thanks to EMCON360 for an old comment on the subject). Added improved wingtip vortex effect (credits to Eagle114th). Added new exhaust emitter effects (credits to viper63a and NeverEnough). Contrails are no longer flat; they are volumetric and expand as much as possible, within the limitations of the game engine. Wingtip vortexes are brighter, more varied and longer. Those effects now use their own textures, instead of using the same texture for different purposes as in the stock SF2 game.

1 pointhaving the MAX files would be the most important thing, yes? Don't know if they even still exist. Crusader or Sundowner might know. Then, there's getting someone to ACTUALLY re-work them in MAX. Not a lot of cockpit gurus around

1 pointView File Aircraft Carrier "Kuznetsov" ex Kremlin Class Aircraft Carrier "Kuznetsov" ex Kremlin Class ***************************************************** This mod is made for SF2. ---------------------------------------------------------- I. History Since the 50th the Soviet Navy tried to get aircraft carriers. But the political leadership denied all attempts to build such vessels. So the Admirality tried to get carriers through the back door. They declared such ships would be neccessary to hunt down american submarines. So the big ASW ships Moskva and Leningrad were built. But the design was terrible. Thatswhy the project 1143 was developed, better known as Kiev class. The Kiev class was to small to operate conventional fix wing jets. So the ships were equipped with VTOL planes, the Yak-38. But this plane was no match for american or west european carrierbased planes. Thatswhy the flightdeck of project 1143.4 was made longer. The ship was named Baku. It was built for the supersonic Yak-41. A plan-B was to use the MiG-29K in the air group of the Baku. The next step was to make the project 1143 ships bigger and longer. 1143.5 was launched in 1982. First named as Riga, then Breshnev, then Tblissi and in 1990 renamed into Kuznetsov. When the USSR broke into parts the Kuznetsov was transfered to the russian North Fleet. The sister ship 1143.6, Riga was renamed in 1990 into Varjag (Viking). It was not operational when it was was given to the Ukraine. The Ukraine had not had enough money to finish the ship. Thatswhy it was sold to China. China finished the ship, modified it and named it Liaonang. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- II. CREDITS: This is a mod of the ship "Admiral Flota Sovetskogo Soyuza Kuznetsov", made by rokieborhgunder, which you can find here: https://combatace.com/files/file/17091-admiral-flota-sovetskogo-soyuza-kuznetsov/ ---------------------------------------------------------- III. INSTALLATION: -Unzip the folders into your SF2 mod folder ------------------------------------------------------------- IV. Known Problems: The mod is not perfect. Eight gun turrets are not of the correct type. The gun barrels looking always in the wrong direction. The SA-9N missiles does not start from the silos, but from mid of the ship. The Ship to Ship missiles also start from mid of the ship. ---------------------------------------------------------- V. For remarks, comments, bugs, etc please use the forum or send me a PM. ------------------------------------------------------------- VI. The Kuznetsov and all other files are FREEWARE. COMMERCIAL USE IS NOT ALLOWED! ------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------ Hope you enjoy it. 1 pointsi todo sale bien se podría lanzar el terreno, con algunas modificaciones del original, la idea mía era crear una campaña Argentina (golpes militares de los años 50) pero agregando modelos y prototipos que volaron y no creados en aquel tiempo (los llamados alas de Peron), históricamente se enfrento la fuerza aérea contra la marina en la capital federal y el rió de la plata entre estos Gloster Meteor, Avro Lincoln, Pulqui 2, IAE 24 CALQUIN (copia del mosquito con motor radial),AT6A Texan, la acción fue de todos contra todos ya que fracciones de la fuerza aérea también apoyaron a la marina y viceversa, del lado Uruguayo LOS P-51 Mustang salieron a escoltar la huida hacia el Uruguay de los aviones y barcos rebeldes, hasta ahí lo históricamente correcto, se agregaría el portaaviones independencia con los Corsair F4u5n, alas delta IA 37 (Solo varias maquetas de planeo se crearon), ala volante IA-38(un prototipo volando) y no se si tendré tiempo de crear algún modelo mas. esto seria el mod para el que cree estos cacharros

1 point21 years ago on March 27, 1999 A formation of 4 F-117As is about to take off for another strike mission near Belgrade... That night escort jammers EA-6B were grounded due to bad weather... So the Nighthawks had to rely exclusively on their stealth characteristics... F-117As were basically following the very same routes... The 3rd Battalion of the 250th Air Defense Missile Brigade managed to acquire and track the "Vega-31"... At about 8:15 pm local time, with a range of about 8 miles 2 V-601P missiles were launched... The first one passed very close but didn't detonate... and the second gets very close... The second missile detonates causing significant damage to the aircraft and causing it to tumble out of control... The aircraft crushed near the village of Budanovci... The shotdown of "Vega-31" was the first and only verified combat kill of a stelath aircraft and interestingly that kill was achieved with outdated 60s era surface to air missiles.
