8 pointsI swear! i swear! i was just researching on how the retraction of the landing gear worked and one thing lead to another, i am innocent!!! Please pardon the mess, this is just a Franken Flanker, ALL IS A WIP... I want also to point out that in no way i am not a 3D modeller in no way, all i do is get planes from free sites (i have the links where i got them) and adapt everything (hence fore this is a Franken Flanker) where i think it´s close to the real plane, all i do is a few things as pylons, afterburners and all small stuff... All of this is the result of constant asking to @logan4 about modelling tips and techniques (and why not, some self learned tips too). Hope the results will be of benefit to all of us. Merry Christmas and let´s hope the coming year will be filled with health and some cute models!!!

3 pointsHi Folks (however still reads this) Inspired by the wonderful Triplane and the Halberstadt CL.II I've recently restarted FE. By sheer coincidence and curiosity I downloaded the 'old' Flanders terrain from Edward (who still remembers...LOL). I've to say this terrain is good...good basis for further enhancements! Now my two questions: 1. Are you still playing from time to time FE? Still enjoying? 2. If the above mentioned terrain would get a complete rewamp would you use it? No channel (water), 1:1 size - e.g. just a portion of flanders, but with more details, etc. I would honestly do it, but it's a huge project....sooo thinking twice cheers and let me know your thoughts gt

2 pointsWelcome back to FE/FE2 gTerl, Yes I regularly fly FE2 (and WOFF Platinum Ed.) - that other WWI sim (ROF united) I hardly ever touch since these two are so much more immersive. FE2 is still great especially for the feeling of flight conveyed - it's remarkable how the data inis, with tweaking, still hold up, even though FE2 is getting on in years. Also the AI in FE2 is holding up really well. Currently I only fly the small enhancements provided on CombatAce for the stock Verdun and Cambrai terrains (different terrain patch colors, etc.) - and of course also your Italian terrains, and Stephen's eastern front and middle eastern terrains. For some reason I spend most of my time flying over Italy and in the middle eastern theater - I like the fact that FE2 is still the only WWI sim. that gives us some of these less well-known theaters, where we can fly some very obscure mounts. I fly all of your maps for Italy (the regular Italy map and also Caporetto) - so I would definitely download your revamp of Flanders too if you ever consider reworking it. Von S

2 pointsMan, I'm really wanting to pull the trigger on this. The only problem is, I now have Stage 3 Heart Failure and I'd hate to have someone find me dead with my stick in my hand.

2 points1). Still playing and enjoying FE2. 2). Still use Edward's Flanders-terrain, possibly more than any other. I would certainly use a revamped version. Thank you for considering this.

2 points@Swambast, sorry for the (slightly) late reply. In terms of the wing shape - the top view and also (curved) side view - the pics. in the post that begin with "First crack at new curved wing mesh..." are superior - and we should go with those - the wings in the pic. posted later are too flat (side view), and also slightly too narrow of a chord on those as well. Yes, as suggested elsewhere by me in this thread - it's best to stick with that one version that you have posted immediately above this post - with that side view - and the top view would correspond with the model indicated in that black-and-white photo below the relevant side-view. The beauty of that version is that it will work well with the 3-cyl. engined-up Anzani, also the 6-cyl. radial Anzani - or even for that matter a 7-cyl. Gnome Omega rotary - it is therefore the most "flexible" version, as you've indicated. Here is the pic. I promised earlier today - the fuselage length should equate in real-world terms to 7.53 meters (without the rudder attached). The wingspan should be about 8.58 meters total (that equates to about 27.9 feet). And we should "cut" a small groove into the trailing edges of the wings, next to the fuselage, as so - to correspond with the model featured in the side view posted. Also extend the span by about one foot and a couple of inches (in real world terms) - for each wing. Span extension and approx. location of groove cutouts indicated in pic. below. The slight span extension will give us a good approx. of the 8.58 meters span that usually went together with those groove cutouts. Notice also the slightly longer chord of the wing required. (My hunch is that the original freeware model was attempting to model the shorter 7.79 meters span, which is about 25.6 feet approx.) (I'll see if I can find another few source photos to post - but I think we should already be fine with those two posted above my post.) Flesh-colored patches indicate linen, behind pilot seat, and cowling up front. Top lip of cowling should extend slightly over the wheel truss assembly, as a kind of scoop, covering the top part of a 6-cyl. Anzani. If a three-cyl. Anzani is used instead, cowling should stop at the wheel truss since the 3-cyl. Anzani will be mounted inside, rather than on the outside, of the squarish frame of the wheel truss assembly. Von S EDIT: Managed to find a good top-view drawing that corresponds with the side-view indicated in the post above this one. Also, look over this top-view as well (while this one is technically for a two-seater, I have indicated the shorter fuselage length and re-positioned the tail/rudder, etc., for a one-seater version). Red line indicates the new final length to the trailing edge of the rudder. Also take note of the repositioned cockpit, in black ink, for the one-seater variant. The orange/flesh toned coloring has covered up, with fabric, the position of the seating for pilot, and observer, of the two-seater variant. Cockpit position is now in the correct place for a one-seater version, giving the pilot a good downward view through the wing cutouts.

2 points@Von : your supports and comments are incredibly helpful. However, I'm getting overwhelmed by all the different variations, dimensions, models, etc. (for example, found different configs for wings, horizontal stabilizers, etc.). Can you help me by picking just one version, hopefully the most diverse/flexible version that can be quickly turned into different ones later. I'd like to stick with just one version for now and any/all source reference photos and dimensions just for that single version to start with. From earlier comments I think this one might be a decent candidate? That being said, I can't decipher what the rest of the wing shape should be from just the side view - are there any more reference photos to go off (top view, rear views, etc.)? If someone can gather all the source photo references would be incredibly helpful esp. as mentioned I have no knowledge of this era... Does this version equate to this view below?

1 pointHello and Happy Happy Holidays to everyone, I wanted to take a moment and wish you all a blessed holiday season with happiness and health for you and your family throughout the new year to come in 2021. It's times like these that we look back in amazement and disbelief of the times we're living in. 2020 was hard on everyone and if things could go wrong it went wrong in 2020 with Corona Virus and Politics being front and center here in the United States. We've now spent months away from family and friends in isolation as we have learned to live in our new normal. These are unprecedented times that I for one will never be happier to put behind us. 2020 was especially hard for businesses and I feel fortunate that CA survived for now. Over all our donations last year brought in $615 to offset operating costs, thank you to all who helped out. Our advertising dwindled to almost nothing, specifically we received 28% of what we made in 2019 for advertising income as advertisers ran from expenses and businesses failed. Our subscriptions saw the lowest year on record and our cost of doing business went up 9.5% in July as costs of failing businesses got passed on to those of us who remained. This was definitely the year not to remember yet still with all the horror and red ink we consider ourselves lucky to still be standing. Yes it was bad for CA but there are many of us who saw worse times this year. People stood in voting lines and food lines here in America during a pandemic for the first time ever. We lost loved ones around the globe as we were divided with fear and misinformation. Jobs and businesses were lost all over our countries leaving tomorrow uncertain for many but throughout it all in a weird way we found some humanity. We reached out and helped where we could and lifted lives and spirits, I hope that continues. In the spirit of giving this season CA will be donating to Feeding America, Covenant House BC, The Trussell Trust UK, Banques Alimentaires FR, Tafel Deutschland, Leket Israel, and UNICEF to help feed those who need the assistance this winter. I wish we could do more but we're hoping doing our small part contributing to the whole is what matters. Merry Christmas everyone, E

1 pointFirst crack at new curved wing mesh and first draft of experimental texturing (weathering and beveled/drop shadow wing struts but "squares" not yet symmetrical, etc.). Still not sure if I like the technique so will keep messing around with it a bit more and welcome improvement suggestions.

1 pointView File F-5GN(Soviets) F-5GN(Soviets) (What if) ***************************************************** This mod is made for SF2. ---------------------------------------------------------- I. History (fiction) In 1969 there were decisive elections in West Germany. In reality, the Social Democrats won. A new foreign policy followed and a period of reduction of tensions between East and West. WHAT IF, the other side had won? What if the conservatives had won and Franz Joseph Strauß (an old bavarian Commie eater) would have become Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany? And so it starts. In 1969 Strauß was elected as Chancellor. A period of rising tensions between East and West started. To protect the sea lanes between Europe and America the west german parliament Bundestag decided to build up a west german carrier force consiting of 3 carriers. The american gouvernment was pleased and offered to sell 3 carriers of the Essex class (subclass Ticonderoga). The first ship which was handed over was CV-34 Oriskany in 1969. Renamed in R-22 Theodor Heuss it was core of the first west german carrier group. 1973 CV-38 Shangri-La became R-23 Heinrich Lübke (later renamed in Walter Scheel) and two years later CV-45 Valley Forge became R-24 Gustav Heinemann. The americans offered A-4 Skyhawk and F-8 Crusader as planes for the carrier group. The Bundesmarine accepted the A-4, but rejected the Crusader, because the Bundesmarine wanted a more multi role capable plane, not only a pure fighter. At this moment Northrop entered the competition and offered a navalised version of the brand new F-5E Tiger. Under the designation F-5GN (German Navy) it should be produced in America and Germany. The west german government accepted the offer and the serial production of the F-5GN started. During flight tests on the way the US Marines decided, that it would be a good idea to replace their old F-8 Crusaders with F-5GN planes. So the F-5GN became a Marine plane. Later, when the Marines retired their attack carriers the surviving F-5GN were transfered to Top Gun school. 1973 the government of South Vietnam demanded more F-5E Tigers to fight the communist forces. Because there was a shortage of F-5E the american leaders decided to send the first batch, which was intended for the Marines, to the Republic of Vietnam. So 40 F-5GN were handed over. On May 1st 1975 Saigon was taken by the communist forces. the war was over. 36 surviving F-5GN were captured by the north vietnamese. To pay war depts Vietnam handed all 36 F-5GN and 12 F-5E to the soviets. In the USSR the planes were tested very hard. Finaly the decision was made to use the F-5GN in the Soviet Navy. The canceled carrier project Oriol was revitalized and in 1976 the first soviet carrier squadron was formed. The soviets modified only the RWR and the air to air missiles. Air to ground weapons were taken from captured stores in Vietnam. The US Navy realized very soon that the soviets had a new plane. Analysts believed, that the soviets copied the F-5GN and gave her the designation MiG-28. The F-5GN alias MiG-28 had only a short service time in the Soviet Navy. 1982 the F-5GN was withdrawn from service. The reason was missing spare parts. Afterwards the planes were sold to Iran. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- II. CREDITS: The F-5GN(Marines) based on Centurions 2014 released F-5E package. 1 pointthere's a hatch on the back (you lay on it in the deployed position), that becomes the "top". The gunner enters the turret when it's retracted into the aircraft, and pointed down. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ball_turret#/media/File:Air_Ministry_Second_World_War_Official_Collection_CI1028.jpg the turret is unmanned during take off and landings; there's a ground clearence issue (see Amazing Stories "The Mission" https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0511124/ -- with Kevin Costner!)
