13 pointsMCAS El Toro,1975. Only VA with A-6 in 1965 was 75 and 85. at that time VA-65 was transferring from COMNAVAIRLANT to Pacific Fleet. VA-65 first deployment within COMNAVAIRPAC was from May 12, 1966, to December 3, 1966, as part of CVW-15 on Constellation. sorry, I have a serial/date/nose art fetish...

8 pointsThe Frag Order said to bomb a Kimchi Shack. I'm SURE it was a front for a cabbage-based Nuclear Weapons Facility, so I took the mission. Besides, it was a slow day on the water............ About to splatter fermented secret sauce over the Korean countryside. Now lets go find a use for these Walleyes......

3 pointsback north for a moment so, i am doing serials for PACAF Mod Eagle. where the markings are supposed to be opposite of whatever color theyre on (most of ACC and USAFE ingnored this) but light serials dont do good on dark surfaces so i cut out a box on the mod eagle skin made a box in a decal, and cut the serial number out of the box insert via ini and it dont look too bad

2 pointsoh i know, and in lodviewer its pretty evident especiall at some distances and angles. in game and in several lighting conditions its pretty hard to tell unless you get very very close. like rivet counting close, not any kind of gameplay close. my last two posts in the main Screenshot thread are from test runs on the first few decals for this creating the decal itself is a little more complicated than the usual. not pick a color and opacity, rather Box with a base color, then black numbers. Make copy from visible and hide the origianl group of layers. Select the base color, then invert selection and delete (eliminates every trace of the black num). Copy that layer. Use bucket fill to change to a lighter color (the color bleeds, but at 200px image size, the bleed adds slight fuzz that eliminates the hard edges and isnt as noticeable as if say a 1024px image). Reduce opacity to ~30%. reduce the dark base copy between 2 and 10% for some variance. Rinse wash and repeat 37 times tonight i wrap up with the unit marked birds. this is wher it'll get a bit more interesting....

1 pointVSN already released a new great mod: the Delta Dart: Download: https://drive.filen.io/d/453c8ea1-f087-467a-890f-952786fa7915#i6EWVHo5tJFQdrEjts3Lt0mshDXn4GTz

1 pointAhh, I get you. Well, firstly, as we don't have access to source code, I can't really say what the game does when we switch it to easy. And secondly, I consider the main problem to be mostly solved. Now we have even two methods of dealing with it and with applied changes the rudder does behave like it should. Coefficients could be tweaked around, but this is another story for another day. Now they do Gunfighting is easier and you can do some tricks with it Now "Knife Edge" is possible Hammerhead too

1 pointOf course does the elevators contribute to the total lift force. It's basic rigid body physics (keyword: equivalent force systems): e.g. an upward force at the elevator is equivalent to the same force applied to the cog and an additional moment around the cog with moment = force x cog-elevator-distance. Sure, the lift contribution from the elevators is nearly neglectable compared to the main wings, but it's there. But that is rolling moment due to slip angle beta Clb (of the wings) and not Cldc (of the rudder). That would be drag due to beta Cdb. Unfortunately this coefficient is indeed missing in the SF games. I tested a side slip maneuver with the F-100A: full rudder and opposite aileron to keep the wings level. And indeed the heading doesn't change. That means that either Cydc (of the rudder) is too big or (the absolute value of negative) Cyb (of the fuselage and tail) are to small, or both. Therefore you can try to decrease Cydc of the rudder (maybe until 0.0) and/or increase the abolute value of negative Cyb (of fuselage and tail).

1 point@daddyairplanes Clever solution. I want to point out that decals use their own shader for rendering, though. They get a different lighting compared to the rest of the aircraft's textures. This means that under certain angles of sunlight, you might be able to see the box being illuminated differently.

1 pointYeah, a hard drive crash would be easier to recover from. In this case the software itself died. My copy of 3D Studio Max was about 15 years old. It started shutting down unexpectedly, then it started throwing error messages, then it refused to start. Autodesk stopped supporting it years ago, so no help there. I contacted everyone I know and tried everything I could think of, including reinstalling it from scratch. I finally gave up. This happened more than a week ago. I am over the bitching phase, and the feeling depressed phase, now I'm in the "Let's carry on from here" phase. I'm making good progress with Blender. The biggest downside is that I lost a huge library of components that I had created - but if I did it once, I can do it again, it's only a matter of time...

1 pointok, real world nit pick time most netting like that is plastic, and melts kinda easy. how do i know? 21 years as an Army cook, with many many moons cooking under the stars. to close to any exhaust (even the fans venting the kitchen) and the net gets burnt up and darkened. so it should be higher over the building. which would be a nightmare to put up, and keep up in any kind of wind. but you want to be properly tactical? the competition is way ahead of you on that i've also eaten at a few of these over the years (yes i mean the truck)

1 pointNo idea. One minute I'm rolling down the runway at about 150 knots, considering alternatives for running into trouble along the way, and there's the Phantom on the centerline. At 1st, I thought it was moving; said something ungentlemanly, and pulled the stick back in a hurry.
