4 pointsSo I was going through some pictures and I found my simming rig from 2004.....so I thought it might be fun to see if anyone has pics of their setups from a long time ago and what they look like now. So I have one pic from 2004 and one I took earlier today. Look how far we have come.

2 pointsDCS World has come a long way from Flanker / LOMAC. I thoroughly enjoy it. I have finally started to get into multiplayer using the awesome combination of VAICOM Pro for interacting with AI and SRS for interacting with real people using the proper radio controls and procedures. The F-14B and F/A-18C are great aircraft to fly. With Supercarrier, these two Naval fighters shine as the most fun and immersive to fly in DCS World. The Tomcat is a little harder to employ in combat because of the combination of older, complex systems and having to deal with the AI RIO, who can't figure out that if I tell him to track a target and the radar loses track while an AIM-7 or AIM-54 is in the air, that he needs to regain the lock as quickly as possible on the same contact. But the Tomcat is more fun to fly because it isn't fly-by-wire. The Tomcat is my go-to plane to fly until an F-4 Phantom is available. It is actually a half-decent F-4 simulator thanks to the RIO, steam gauge cockpit, and AIM-7/AIM-9 armament. If the F-14A ever becomes available as originally promised, it has very similar power-to-weight with resulting similar climb and sustained turn performance. If you don't use AIM-54s, it will only have the range and TWS benefits of the radar over the F-4 in weapons systems. Whereas the F-14B's big engines make it competitive if not superior to anything else flying if you can handle the lack of fly-by-wire with good pitch and yaw control. The Hornet is only crippled by two things: underpowered and low max g limit. But it is by far the easiest aircraft to use for air combat and one of the most fun to fly because of its high AoA performance. The Hornet really handles well if you can keep the speed low enough to not be limited by max G and fast enough to not be limited by drag and stall speed.

2 pointsHello paulopanz, Thanks for this pack! Regarding the sound of the Hispano Suiza Verdon, it is the same engine as the P&W J48 which was used in the Grumman Panther & Cougar, if it can help.

2 pointsThank you for these many variations on the Elephant Crawford - I will copy over the changes to my modified FMs for the Elephants as soon as I find time. For those who have my FM realism pack loaded up, for FE2, by the way, the working fuel pump prop. mod that Crawford discovered has already been included on the FM-modded Sopwith Camel variants, a while back, as well as on the FM-modded Elephants - but I will eventually include Crawford's latest modifications to guns and cameras, to the Elephants, too. Great stuff and glad to see this thread revived. Von S

1 pointI literally explained it above: it's an F-14B cockpit. We do not have an F-14D cockpit. It would be nice to have, certainly, but until someone makes one, we have what we have.

1 pointDefinitely love the supercarrier. Having the deck crew there really helps the immersion, and also the lineup on the catapult so I'm not dicking around for five minutes trying to get aligned right, then rolling too far forward, then circling around the deck back to the catapult to try again, rinse repeat. I also picked up the VKB F-14 combat grip. Swap between that one and the Warthog stick depending on the module I'm flying. I'm considering snagging the F/A-18 add-on, but will probably wait for a sale. How do you like it, Dave?

1 pointThose dinky CRTs seemed more than adequate at the time - and that Thrustmaster Cougar would still look good with any modern setup.

1 pointView File Dassault Mystère IVA The Mystère IV was an evolutionary development of the Mystère II aircraft. Although bearing an external resemblance to the earlier aircraft, the Mystère IV was in fact a new design with aerodynamic improvements for supersonic flight. The prototype first flew on 28 September 1952, and the aircraft entered service in April 1953. The first 50 Mystere IVA production aircraft were powered by British Rolls-Royce Tay turbojets, while the remainder had the French-built Hispano-Suiza Verdon 350 version of that engine. This plane was "the star" of War of the Stripes over Suez in 1956 France was the main operator of the Mystère IV and at the peak usage operated 6 squadrons. Most of the aircraft were purchased under a United States Offshore Procurement contract and many were returned to US custody after they were retired. In April 1953 the United States government and the United States Air Force placed an order for 223 aircraft to be operated by the French. The new Mystère IVs were used in the 1956 Suez Crisis and continued in use into the 1980s The Mystère IV became Israel's first swept-wing fighter when an order for Mystère IIs was changed to 24 Mystère IVs in 1955, which were delivered from April to June 1956, equipping 101 Squadron. A further 36 were delivered in August 1956, with a final aircraft, equipped for reconnaissance duties, delivered in September 1956. On 29 October 1956, when Israel attacked Egypt in the opening move of what became known as the Suez Crisis, invading the Sinai Peninsula, the Mystères of 101 Squadron were deployed on both air-to-air and ground attack mission. A second squadron, 109 Squadron was equipped with the Mystère IV in December 1956, while 101 Squadron passed its Mystères to 116 Squadron in November 1961. Israel planned to replace the Mystère IV with the Douglas A-4 Skyhawk, but 109 and 116 Squadron still operated the French fighter on the outbreak of the Six-Day War. The Mystère was finally retired from Israeli service on 18 March 1971. India procured 104 of aircraft in 1957 and used them extensively in the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965. The phasing out of the aircraft started soon after the 1965 Indo-Pakistani War, though it saw further action in the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971, it was completely phased out of the Indian Air Force by 1973. This is a big High Res update of my previous and other modders skins and new ones. Plane tweaking. WHAT'S IN: - 43 new skins (IDF 12; 5 IAF; 16 AdA) - historical decalsets - missing antenna added - taxing dance solved - openable autoclosing canopy - pilot CREDITS: - Tk plane - Geary High Rez temps - Ghostrider883 IAF previous skins - Wilco IDF decals - Coupi new antenna TO INSTALL: - all in main mod folder and overwrite OPERATIONS: - key 10 = Canopy open NOTE: I looked for the Hispano Suiza Verdon sound, but no luck. If someone has it, please share. Enjoy @paulopanz Submitter paulopanz Submitted 05/23/2020 Category Mystere IV

1 pointThanks for the above, Crawford! I note the BrisFit has a wing-mounted "generator fan" - will it work with the same code? And going back a couple more, I never saw the "Stachel" pilot model except in George's post but it reads like VonS has it somewhere in his files. Can that be released for general use? I'm in the process of re-doing my "Blue Max" install and that would be a welcome addition!

1 pointRAF Detling Coastal Command At the moment i make one airbase per day. 38 bases of the RAF are on the map. So you can calculate when the terrain can be finished. I think X-mas this year is realistic. Or in two weeks.

1 pointYep, I do remember the test with the Magic. I have also changed/updated the warhead explosive mass for my mod. Most stock missiles have the complete warhead weight set for the explosive mass. The real amount is much less. Ive gone one step further. Ive converted the several different explosive types to their TNT equivalent. The results are between 4.9 kg and 6.2 kg explosive mass for the AIM-9's. Combined with the increased fuzing distance, the results are more damaged targets and less immediate fiery explosions.

1 pointThe purchase was made directly from VEAO, not ED, so ED owes me nothing. I bet on many DCS releases. The MiG-21bis was my first and mostly paid off. The WW2 debacle wasn't really a debacle for me, I got three planes, the new terrain, and asset pack for $40. I only lost the P-47 and the Me-262 from the crowd funding promise, but that was still a fantastic deal. Not only has the VEAO FB page and YouTube channel disappeared, but so has the BlueSky FS page and channel. They have gone kaput! Found this great video on YouTube:
