2 pointsHi Dresam, I've been away from flight simming since about late June, after the ver. 1.3 AI/DM update for RoF was released, partly because of work-related duties. So I haven't been as active on the forums as previously. Hope you are enjoying flying FE2. Greetings, Von S

Chengdu J-10A-AR "Ehécatl" This model is a approximation of how a Chengdu J-10 might look if it was in service with the Argentinian Air Force, being part of the 6to Grupo de Caza y Ataque, belonging to the VI Brigada Aérea. As many of you might know, Argentina is planning to modernize its air force, and one of the jets that has been considered is the J-10, coming along with the JF-17, the MiG-35 and the MiG-29 (I should work on one of those). The model, though, is not accurate. The offer made by China considers the J-10CE, an export version of the J-10C. This plane can carry Chinese and Russian weapons, and Argentinian Mk-series bombs. The aircraft will appear on the list as "Chengdu J-10A-AR "Ehécatl". The adding of the -AR is just a formality. To install it, you will need to copy and paste the folders in your SF2 mod folder, following basic mod installation proccess. In the folder >>J10AR-Final Version<< you will find 4 folders. These are: Aircraft >> J-10A Decals >> J-10A Flight >> FLIGHTENGINE.INI Weapons >> KometaTankC // KometaTankW Special thanks to: Erwin_Hans and InSky, for the fantastic model they made of the Dragon... Franconinja14, who made the skin for the plane... Stipe, for the MiG-29M3 "Hyper Fulcrum" and its HUD, that I used for this mod... Spinners, for the Kometa and its tanks, wich I use in this mod... Eagle114th, for the screenshots, giving me tips and helping with everything (this guy is a genius)... And ThirdWire, for this amazing sim, that I love and play almost everyday... I hope you enjoy this mod as much as I do. Have a good flight! Good hunting! -

Help! This has been an attempt to make a fictional 1944 campaign around Wrench's very nice Phillipines terrain. https://combatace.com/files/file/14171-phillipines-islands-1944-ww2-pto-terrain-for-sf2/ After reading 'Race of Aces' (great book - get it) I wanted to fly and fight many types of aircraft on that terrain. This is my first try at a campaign, and it uses a lot of gutting and reverse engineering from: Regula50's https://combatace.com/files/file/16491-tainan-kokutai-new-guinea-1942-campaignpart-1/ and -2 Pcpilot's https://combatace.com/files/file/13709-solomons-campaign/ Hope you guys don't mind - it's how I learn. Also much thanks to all the various aircraft downloads from this site I've used. This is a great community. If you don't have the various aircraft, just edit the ini's I tossed various planes around on the bases. Again, no attempt at historical accuracy. Problem: The US aircraft all seem there and working, but only two groups of Japanese are working. A6M7/Lahug Field and J2M1/La Carlotta Field. I can't get the rest of the Japanese aircraft to appear. No idea what's wrong.... -I've tried moving aircraft around on the various airbases -lengthened the runways in the terrain folder in case the planes needed longer ones -increased the max number of squadrons allowed on the airbases in the terrain folder -various other hail mary attempts I've forgotten about. There are a lot of values and parameters I still don't understand in the ini's. If anyone wants to try to fix this and repost it I'd appreciate it. B -
1 pointNot quite this day in history, but more like the history we're living through right now. Kabul Airport, August 2021, and the Afghan population storm the tarmac to try to flee from the Taliban who are taking back the country. US troops try to secure the airport to allow flights to arrive, load and leave safely...
-
1 pointIf I good remember it is like that since day 1. Probably originally there was some intention to include this function as working, but either was overlooked, or realized that actual AC Hud always show the real radar altitude constantly. So don't lose your sleep over it.

1 pointI really can't disagree with that last part. I mean it doesn't matter as they would know whether it was the winter or summer season. They simply know what's going on in their villages to know if we were pulling out. They just knew us better than us sometimes, and that's a fact. Anyways as for the letting people know, it was broadcast to the world and too late. With that knowledge the Taliban simply waited until we were out of the villages to sweep in. I mean we fought hard (I know I lobbed a goodly amount of HE at the Taliban and bombs) just to keep it secure, but again all they had to do is wait until we pulled out to retake those same villages. So yeah, there's some blame all around but nobody thought the Taliban would sweep in. I mean I saw some footage from an OSINT account on Twitter so it was no surprise that they were chasing away the Afghan forces we setup but yeah, announcing it was stupid, but then again they would have figured it out anyways I think. As for a waste of money if we had stayed, it would definitely have cost us more for what we got. We only didn't delay it by a motion of ten years or however amount we would have spent if we stayed. We had to leave sometime of course and frankly glad we did in some ways.

1 pointThis is the most detailed 'Know how' readme for a long time here. Contrary to some "- this is a skin for aircraft" that was often seen on download. That is why I downloaded these files. I do not do WW2 flying in SF2...but skins look great. For sure I will find applications for those pilots after all. Thanks for your work.

1 pointThe decision to retreat from Afghanistan is correct. To stay one or ten years longer would change nothing and waste billions of Dollars and Euros. But how the retreat was done was completly wrong. First: The time. In Afghanistan there are two times. One more or less peacefull time in the winter, because it is simply to cold to fight. And one wartime in summer. It would be much more clever to retreat in winter. The soviets did it in winter. And their proxy Nadjibulla was able to fight two more years. He had some month to prepare for the wartime periode. The americans decided to retreat in summer. This is the wrong season. The enemy had perfect weather for war operations. Second: If you retreat it is the most challenging military operation. You must take all with you. The technic, the supply goods, your supporters and your troops. The americans and all of their allies simply had forgotten the supporters. They should have been evacuated before the troops left the field. And finally: Never give the timetable of your retreat to the enemy! This is stupid!

1 pointDownload my menu screens mod package (a conversion of the menu screens from SFP1), it properly restores the briefing screen with visibility info, alongside few other features from SFP1. It's available here: https://combatace.com/files/file/16900-wings-over-world-menu-screens/ If you prefer the crappy SF2 menu screens, there should be a SF2 Briefing Retrofit mod somewhere in the downloads section.

1 pointMuch better this time. Was tasked with hitting a target at the Hanoi Thermal Power Plant so in light of recent losses and figuring that the guns had been reinforced it was decided that I would launch with ENS Wilkerson. As it turns out we were so far ahead of schedule that we ended circling at 12,000ft thirty miles from the coast in point for a time. Then of course, we ended up being far behind instead of far ahead. Still, we went feet dry between Haiphong and Thai Binh and increased speed as we turned on the heading towards Hanoi in the distance. If anyone has to get in deep this is the way to go. In the open area between Hanoi, Haiphong, and Nam Dinh there isn't much in the way of AAA. Here we are, putting along at 250 knots and not drawing a shot while the fast movers down below had the whole world open up on them it seems. Even Tampa, another pair of Spads also at altitude and doing flak suppression for us, are doing just fine ahead of us. Well, about a quarter of the way there something new happened. There had been scuttlebutt about the North Vietnamese installing SA-2 missiles and now talk became reality because in the distance at 11 low near Bac Mai we saw this smoke column rise up with something streaking away from it. Next came the radio calls. If there's one one site, there's sure to be another somewhere. As we got in close, sure enough there was another launch. This one from around the Gia Lam air base. Well it seemed no one was paying much attention to us so on we went closing in on Hanoi. We could see Tampa ahead by the bursts of smoke as flak opened up on them as they flew over the Hanoi city limits. As we closed in ourselves, it didn't seem to bad until Tampa two took a direct hit and was blown in half. Watching him go down got us focused damn good and so we got ready to face the AAA as we were going to pass over the exact same area. Sure enough, they opened up on us nd all we could do was hope for the best. The fun times were over when we pitched over into the bomb run. The actual attack wasn't too bad even though they were firing like hell at us. It got really bad when we went to get the hell out of there. You see, the target, which we hit all nice fine and dandy, was on the backside of Hanoi from out flight path and so naturally, we would have to turn back and overfly the city on the way out. At low level, with everyone and their grand mama-san shooting at us. Needless to say it was hot and heavy from 4000ft to 7500ft as there wasn't a second of time where the flak wasn't exploding around Wilkerson and i. The initial goal was to just make it over the Red River, hopefully not being shot full of holes. and if that happened, hoping the engine would last long enough to reach the coast. After what seemed like an eternity, the Red was crossed and away we went, though ground fire from 6 O'clock was bad enough that we went down to 2000ft as we poured on the coals. It was rather smooth sailing, with the exception of the time we got accurate fire NE of Hung Yen. That made us go down to 900 ft and we learned in the future it'd be best if we flew at 500ft or lower. Finally we went feet wet and that was that. The rest was a routine flight home.

Nord 2501, powered by the SNECMA-built Bristol Hercules 738/9 engines, which was found acceptable. Accordingly, the Noratlas was introduced to service by the Armée de l'Air on 6 December 1953. Following its adoption by the Armée de l'Air, a number of other operators in both Europe and Africa chose to procure the Noratlas for their own military air services. Having found itself in a similar situation to France, the German Air Force of West Germany chose to adopt the same solution, procuring the type for their own purposes. The Israeli Air Force, the Hellenic Air Force, and the Portuguese Air Force all deployed the Noratlas under combat conditions. -SF2 Menu screens and icons- This pack includes all the menu screens and icons you need to turn SF2, or any version of Strike Fighters into a WW2 Pacific air war install. What it DOES NOT include are campaign or instant action inis, or the icons for the in-game map. I decided this pack was enough as there are already some excellent files of that nature available on CombatAce website. I highly recommend Baltikas' campaigns for a start. Also check out Dfangs' in-flight map icon packs located here... http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autocom=downloads&showfile=1829 To install, simply un-pack the menu and flight folder into your SF2 mods located here for WinXP... C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\My Documents\ThirdWire\StrikeFighters2. If You are running Vista or Win7, then this is the File Format. This is where you should find your "Mods" folder. <User Name>/Saved Games/ThirdWire/StrikeFighters2 PAW/Menu Also, for the initscreen, you need to do this...Go to your main install of the game. Mine is here...C:\Program Files (x86)\ThirdWire\Strike Fighters 2 PAW. Place the INITSCREEN.bmp in the Menu folder. Then, go back out of the menu folder and rename your StrikeFighters2.ini to whatever you have called your exe for your PAW install. Mine is StrikeFighters2 PAW.ini. I then opened the ini and added the following line under the [sTARTUP] heading...LoadingScreen=Menu\INITSCREEN.BMP. It should look like this... [startup] IntroMovieList= LoadingScreen=Menu\INITSCREEN.BMP StartupScreen=MainScreen Keep in mind this isn't all the screens in the pack, just a sample. Hope ya like 'em. These files are released under the CombatAce Freeware Licensing agreement. You are free to modify these files and use them as you wish as long as the files are not used in payware of any kind. If you use them, please remeber to give credit. These files are released to a great community of simmers at CombatAce and SimHq. Have fun and God bless.
