4 pointsThought I'd refresh the screenshots thread gents' with some new action on the eastern front, using Stephen's superb update to the Galicia terrain (version 3). Great stuff and very immersive - thank you modders for your continued work on FE/FE2! Watch those turns, also take-offs and landings in the M-S I, she's a slippery type. Von S

2 pointsSee below - when I can keep it on target, I think the Lewis variant does a better job than the Hotchkiss, and you should think about removing that spinner to get better cooling of the cylinders!

1 pointYes WoFF's 'quick battle' generator, and to a lesser extent ROF's version, is a lot better than FE2's 'Single mission' - WoFF allows setting many more parameters. My view of FE2 is mainly determined by how good its campaign system is, and here the sims seem to me more evenly matched, in a 'swings and roundabouts' sense. I'm currently playing a Bloody April campaign in FE2 alongside an Armchair Aces one, flying for Jastas 11 and Boelcke respectively, and I'm enjoying the light-touch 'squadron management' aspect, choosing how many and which pilots will go on each sortie, mixing old hares with new kinder and resting one half of the staffel while I lead the others into action. Last but one mission with Jasta 11, I decided to ignore an order to patrol over the enemy side and instead tootled along just on the English side of the lines, knocking down a couple of their balloons when their airmen declined to show up. It really hurt when there was a bang behind me, louder and different to the hoarse bark of the AA fire we were receiving, and I looked back to see one of my boys going down nearly vertically with most of his wings fluttering after him. Happily, he was saved by the mission locking up (I seem to get this occasionally on my relatively new Win 10 box) with the details not recorded! And so we all lived to fly the next mission, an uneventful patrol to a balloon unit down to our south, near Cambrai. You can practically see the relief on my virtual face as I lead the pack up and away from Phalempin!

1 point<cough> position of wing lights is always a useful starting place <cough> but with the lod viewer, it's down to an exact science
-
1 pointof course you can! even some of the terrain cat lods, if the ini is available

-
1 pointyes, you can make a light rotate (see Stary's lighthouses) you'd need to build in the animation into the LOD, and most likely use a 'self illuminating tga', and the tga for the light beam itself would need creating

1 pointdown load this, study the entries, adjust as needed for your use. somewhere also is an post about adding smoke to buildings (like powerplant exhaust stacks). that should also have some relevant clues. not sure if one can make a light rotate, but it can be made to blink and the blink rate can vary. best advice until someone else posts

1 pointHad to do a test of a test today trying to get back some kind of a gun sound to the Gripen, so took the Superbug for a spin... Intercepting unknowns... Four Fencers with anti-ship missiles... Going in to warn them away from the Nimitz... First pass clearly too far up and a bit behind... Second pass shoulda worked but didn't so... WEAPONS FREE! Fencer spare parts anyone?

1 pointALCON, Earlier today, Heatblur ran a live stream of the F-14 to show off some of the aircraft's capabilities, and current state of development. The stream is long, at over 2 hours and 9 minutes, so you may want to skip around. Some highlights include: 1. Aerial refueling with a KC-130 tanker - this takes a long time, both Victory-2 and Diamond-2 have a hell of a time getting contact. 2. Low-altitude strike 3. Air-to-air engagement (not any proper dogfighting, mostly stand-off and against non-maneuvering targets) 4. Inadvertent night-time carrier landings (the mission went on longer than planned, apparently it was supposed to be at sunset. Hilarity ensues. Probably the most interesting thing for me was the breakage that happened during the first live stream. The CAP flight (Victory) lead F-14's INS failed, breaking from the shock of the cat stroke, which prevented Victory-1 from using his AIM-54s in TWS. I believe he used one in close range against a bomber. Dash 2 became the shooter at long range. Then, the strike flight (Diamond) lead's auto wing sweep failed some time before he began his approach to the carrier, so he had to switch to manual. He seems to lose SA of his altitude or maybe gets spatial-D and puts it in the water. The other three make it back, with Victory-1 taking three attempts to get the plane down, while Victory-2 gets it on the first attempt. It will definitely be interesting to test out, whenever the heck it gets released, especially knowing you may have to fight with some systems broken, or having to try to reset them. I wonder if any other aircraft in DCS have that fidelity of modelling? Either way, it was an interesting first look at a full mission in the HB Turkey.

1 point'In the summer of 1945, approximately 30 P-80As were sent aboard an aircraft carrier to the Philippines in preparation for the final assault on Japan. The planes were to be issued to the 414th Fighter Group, based at Florida Blanca. Unfortunately, the planes had been sent without their tip tanks and their aircraft batteries, so they sat aboard the aircraft carrier for 30 days waiting for this equipment. By the time that the batteries and wingtip tanks were delivered, the war in the Pacific had ended, so the P-80 never got a chance to enter combat in the war against Japan." http://www.joebaugher.com/usaf_fighters/p80_12.html 413th Fighter Squadron, 414 Fighter Group, Okinawa 1945/46 437th Fighter Squadron,414 Fighter Group, Okinawa 1945/46 456th Fighter Squadron,414 Fighter Group, Okinawa 1945/46 * First two are in the pearl grey paint applied to the first P-80A aircraft and wasn't used for very long as it didn't last in the field. Last screen shot is natural metal. Thanks to Wrench for the template and original 'what if' PTO P-80A 416FG

1 pointI must fill water in your wine. The aircraft shape of the bird you used is an early MiG-29K from the late 80th. Not the MiG-35. The MiG-35 has always a big "two seater" canopy. Even the single seater MiG-35 has this big canopy, the place of the second seat is used for fuel or additional electronics. The MiG-35 has no hook. It is not intendet for carrier operations. The emergency landing procedures for eastern planes are different from western land based planes. While NATO ground based planes are using cable systems to prevent an overrolling the runway, the eastern system is basing on a net, similar to US carrier net barriers for emergency. The flaps of the MiG-35 are much bigger. They are the same as in the MiG-29K for India. The same with the airbrake. The air intake protection system of the MiG-35 is similar to the Su-27 family. Auxilary air intake on the upper strakes are not longer available. At this place a fuel tank is installed.
