2 pointsSpot the SF screenshot. https://hushkit.net/2019/02/13/phantom-pregnancies-f-4-variants-that-never-were/ Everyone loves the F-4 Phantom, a brutal smoking Cold War monster that polluted the sky in an apocalyptic belch of black sooty thunder. As thrilling as the actual Phantoms that entered service were, there is a tantalising family of F-4s that almost made it into the real world. Several of them were cancelled for being too good and threatening sales of newer aircraft — and one succeeded in its role as a unique test aircraft. Here are some of the Phantoms that never were.

1 pointThanks Gepard, at this point I'm not sure how to best implement the MiG-21 flap system but will do some testing.

1 pointThat's the first thing I've noticed when I installed SF2. It's very annoying and , somehow anticipating the disaster, I made first a backup of my third party planes for SF2 and made separate installs for SF2 series. I

1 pointNorth American (Rockwell) F-100G Super Sabre - 131st TFS, 104th TFW, Massachusetts ANG, 1982 President James Earl 'Jimmy' Carter started his presidency in January 1977 with a detailed review of the US military budget and his most high-profile decision was the cancellation of the Rockwell B-1A bomber programme in June 1977. But many smaller programmes were cut or cancelled too along with the postponement of the re-equipping of TAC and ANG units with new aircraft types. F-16A and A-10A production was slowed down and many TAC and ANG units were instructed to hold on to their F-100's and F-105's for an indefinate period. In a genuine (but actually insulting) compensatory gesture Rockwell were given a $45million contract to upgrade 90 F-100D's for continued service with the ANG with the aircraft emerging from their Columbus, Ohio plant as F-100G's with refurbished engines, partially re-skinned wings and minor avionics upgrades. The first unit to receive F-100G's was the 131st Tactical Fighter Squadron based at Barnes Municipal Airport in Westfield who had been scheduled to convert from the F-100D to A-10A's but instead received F-100G's which served until 1986. Once again, big thanks to Henrik (hgbn) for uploading his F-100D template.

1 pointFurther informations i found. When the SPS System (boundary layer blowing system or BLC) was activated the lift of the flap was increased by 50%. The System was activated when the flap setting was bigger than 30°. Using the system reduced the thrust of the engine by some kN.

Supermarine Spitfire F.Mk 22 - Royal Norwegian Air Force This is a very simple mod of the stock Third Wire Spitfire F.Mk 22 to give a fictional Norwegian Spitfire F.Mk 22 with markings for the following squadrons; No.331 Squadron RNoAF in standard RAF Camo. No.332 Squadron RNoAF in NMF/Silver finish. No.91 Squadron RAF in standard RAF Camo (not a real world user). This mod requires AI Plane Pack 2 and should not conflict with the stock Third Wire Spitfire F.Mk 22. I have elected NOT to make this Spitfire F.Mk 22 nation specific for the RNoAF but have kept it as RAF so as to allow other future skins to be dropped in. INSTRUCTIONS 1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the SpitfireF22 folder into your main Aircraft folder. 2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the SpitfireF22 folder into your main Decals folder. At this point it might be a good idea to change the pilot to whatever you've got in your install suitable for the early post-war period. CREDITS Thanks to Third Wire for a great little game/sim. Special thanks to Kesselbrut for the Spitfire cockpit (an oldie but goldie). And thanks to everyone in the wider Third Wire community. Regards Spinners Version 1 - 15/02/19 -

1 pointOkay, i searched my archive and found something. MiG-21bis acceleration time from Mach 0.5 to Mach 0.9 was 21 seconds time for 360° curve in 1.000m 27 seconds in 4.500m 48 seconds in 9.000m 78 seconds initial turn rate 23° sustainable turn rate 13.3° The flaps of MiG-21F-13, PF and U were modified Fowlerflaps. In german we called it "Spaltklappen", slotted flaps. Flaps setting for takeoff was 24.5°, landing 44.5° From MiG-21PFS onward the flaps were "Scharnierklappen mit Grenzschichtbeeinflussung". Blown flaps with fixed rotation axis. Flap setting were 25° for take off and 45° for landing. The airflow for the border layer blowing system came from the compressor of the engine. It was activated by the pilot by pressing a button (IIRC). It was operational only when the afterburner was not activated. Switching on the NB would automatically switch of the BLC. The flaps of the MiG-21 were pushed in by the driving wind at a speed of 340 km/h. I'm not sure, wheter it was meant that it began with 340 km/h or that the flaps were fully pushed in at 340 km/h. I think the first idea is correct.

1 pointSeany, I don't think they were ever released on 'hardware'. I think only the original game was. Perhaps, a download manager would help-I think they maintain the integrity of partial downloads, even in the event of a broken link?

1 pointNice idea. I tried it. Deleted the options and version.inis. Then started the game. And the game wrote a new options and version.ini and overwrote all modded stock planes. Yea-Ha. Luckily i had copies of the old files.

1 pointI usual just set everything in the Objects folder to read only when I am not modding files.
-
1 pointThis works for me to. You can also make the mig-15.ini file read only once you have made your edits. On my campaign specific installs such as Falklands or ODS etc I make a 7zip copy of the entire aircraft and groundobjects folders. That way if the overwriting starts again I can just redo the options and version .ini files and replace the entire affected aircraft and groundobjects folders.
-
1 pointHi, my Solution of this issue ist the "Falkland-Mod-Method". I made a Copy of SF2 Europe.exe at its root-path (C:\Program Files (x86)\ThirdWire\Strike Fighters 2). Named it "SF2 Modded.exe". Then i started the "SF2 Modded" exe-file. Now it creates the Folder "saved games/SF2 Modded". This Path wasn't overwrite during the last months. To me, this method works. Ah: don't forget to copy the ini-file, too.
-
1 pointDelete options.ini and version.ini in the mod folders for the particular install then run the game...........I think this was the fix for this. Only ever seen an overwrite with a patch under normal running.
-
1 pointYes, it is annoying. After years I've made one ultimate solution - unfortunately, it screws campaign thing (I haven't played campaign since 2010 so am fine with it now) . Thing is. All stock modified by me aircraft has a different name of a folder - example standard Canberra B2 changed name RAF_CanberraB2. and so on. Literally, I have no stock named aircraft - no way game will overwrite this. If the game decides to overwrite it will just create new folders of stock planes..but no harm to my modded ones. Same goes with my ground objects...no stock name. Yes, it is a strange thing but I'm fine with this. And I have everything the way I want. And the game will not fool with me anymore. But this is my solution. I
