4 pointsI have uploaded a completely new version of the Sikorsky S-16. It was not produced in very large numbers, and was quickly outclassed by other planes, so it wasnt one of the "great" planes, but I really like the way it looks. The new version has all new LODs with higher detail and lower poly count. All new skins and decals are included. Ojcar made a new FM as well. Your comments are welcome.

2 pointsDoes anyone know, are there any more such videos about Soviet hunters with similar music?
-
2 pointsWell, it's been a while but plain and simple my simming PC is messed up and I'm too broke to get a new one until next year. That and I need both a new graphics card and a new flight controller. It's frustrating as hell since there are other games that I've had to stop playing util I can get things taken care of. On the plus side a few years ago I started a new hobby writing very bad fan fiction. I've written a few stories base on a few anime shows I like and the one I'm doing now is at 28 chapters and 250K+ words. Funny, when I was a kid in school I hated to write anything and I would choke when a teacher would assign a five hundred word essay. Now I find that I'm writing ten thousand word chapters and if I write less than that I feel that I didn't put in enough effort. Most of my stories are of the what if kind and my main work uses the canon plot and setting as the foundation but everything else was tossed out making the story line an alternative universe. I plan at some point to start writing stories based on FSX and Strike Fighters but that's a long way off. I hope all my friends are doing well and having fun enjoying their own hobbies and pastimes. We finally got the last kid out of the house and on her own somewhat. I'm still taking care of the youngest grandsons and trying to find things to do to fill my time since I retired four years ago. Had it not been for the little incompetent monkey that took the department over as manager I would have retired this year with thirty years but ....yeah, he's one of those guys that's afraid the senior most underling will be a threat to his authority. That's what I hate about working for civilians, they don't understand that to a Vet a supervisor is in a position that we don't want to have because of the BS one has to put up with. But, Karma has struck and the upper management had finally had enough of his never finishing or delivering what he stared or promised and his blaming others for his screw ups. He was let go a couple of weeks ago and since he was management and not union there was no appeal to their decision. His superior had offered me my old job back since the hospital had split from the County and is now it's own entity my past employment and retirement doesn't count. Saying that however my wife said no, my back is just too messed up to take the offer. All in all I and the family are doing great and to add to our house we wound up taking in two more kittens. Our male is not happy, he know has four females to deal with and is very insecure. I can't understand, I thought every male would love a harem.

2 pointsLooking at the top photo, it looks like the Lebed VIII also had ailerons - the Lebed VII used wing warping.
-
2 pointsYou are absolutely right. On the top photo - actually "Лебедь-VIII". It differed from the prototype (pictured below) not only by the different landing gear , but also by the increased wingspan. It really was made in a single copy.
-
2 pointsThe British Tabloid was used very successfully in the early months of the war, as an inceptor and as a bomber. I imagine that was what motivated the Russians. A single prototype of the Lebed VIII was built, with different landing gear, but it never went into production. - As I said, mine is fictitious.

2 pointsLebedev lost his license for Sopwith Tabloid, making unauthorized changes to the design of the engine's cowl, after which the "Tabloid" became "Swan-VII". In total, less than ten of these "swans" were built.

1 pointIf you wanted to know more about all those targets in Strike Fighters you were blasting out of the sky all these years well now is your chance. Didn't the Red Eagles fly the MiG-23 and say it was rubbish and that is all I need to know? Unfortunately, the Red Eagles only flew (as far as we know) the MiG-23MS which was a very special version for third world countries. Special in that it was a modified MiG-23M airframe with MiG-21 avionics and short range IR missiles and yes the Red Eagles were right it was pretty much rubbish, but that should not be confused with the later ML/MLA/MLD types that were vastly improved. Part of the Middle East at war series this newly released book covers the MiG-23 types operated by Iraq, Egypt, Libya, Syria and Algeria between 1973 and 2018. The book also covers some of the technical differences between the types and the weapons they used and some of the situations the pilots faced both internally or externally. Of interest is one pretty detailed Libyan MiG-23MLD pilot account of a 2 v 2 mock dogfight he had got into against some US Navy F-14As in 1986. Austrian Tom Cooper has literally been on a mission from God for years now to get some truth over what happened to the other side in those many Mid-Eastern air wars we all know. He has amassed many contacts that were there at the time and has to be today, the western authority on the subject co authoring books with some of the most established and respected aviation historians. This all started with the massive six part Arab MiGs series which gathered a lot of research and even more contacts which has led to a lot of spins offs including the two part African MiGs, three part Libyan Air Wars, and Iranian Tigers at War (Taghvaee). The controversial Tom Cooper Prior to the Arab MiG series Cooper was somebody taking a lot of flak, not only on the web site ACIG but in relation to other books co-authored 2003 to 2005, the main one being Iranian F-14 Tomcat units in combat. Although the research seems credible the context of the book is misleading, written from only an Iranian view point with several areas where the book contradicts itself. This led to some angry exchanges with several Iraqis on forums and brought into question some of the books material. It is interesting to note that this new book makes little to no reference back to this earlier research and seems to make a big effort in providing information from mostly Arab and Russian/ Soviet sources. We at least now get some insight to the Iraq V Iran air war from an Iraqi viewpoint as well.

1 pointBeen toying with an interesting mod concept that would enable me to use many of the aircraft and ground objects I have already made. In an alternate world, Britain and France honor their treaty obligations and declare war on Nazi Germany over the Munich crisis. Had that occurred, a lot of the action would have taken place over the French-German border, and First Eagles has two Vogesen maps that cover that region. I've been in touch with Gepard about a second generation upgrade to his game map, and he has graciously sent me his height map to fool around with. Meanwhile, I keep tinkering with 1930s aircraft and airfield objects suitable for the concept. Lots of possibilities.

1 point7.33G corner of the real thing was around 390 to 440KIAS but don't advise horizontal turning - it is totally outmatched by most of them jets. If the AI decides to keep turning best you will normally do vs Ace AI (MiG-17F/MiG-19S ) is a neutral lufbery while you run out of fuel. Also the AIM-9s significantly reduce turn performance and not only that they are useless in a turn.

1 pointI'm going to resume this thread with some recent test shots over gterl's revision of Gepard's Vosges map. In regard to the SF fanboyz who posted earlier, I point out two things: 1) It is a FACT that FE objects are 63% of actual size because TK designed the sim that way. Gterl - a superb FE map maker - and I have discussed this. He uses whatever objects he can find, and laments that many of them are NOT the required 63%. 2) True professionals don't ignore facts. Interpret them, yes. Ignore them, no.

1 pointIf I may add a short comment too, the ECM pods on the wing tips should not be attached to the missile rails as they are currently in the model. In reality and as visible on the pictures above, either missile rails or ECM pods are attached to the wing tips. In other words, when you want to load missiles on the wing tips, you remove the ECM pods and place missile rails instead.

1 pointHi UllyB, thanks for sharing the progress on that project that is welcomed by so many people. Can I point out a few areas? Check the last pics, where the nose pitot connects with the nose, seems that this area isn*t smoothed properly. you can see the edgy 3D mesh there. Another point it, the angle of the whole front intakes, isnt straight as in your model, but slightly angled outward. Check that reference pic, you can see the angle for the intake on the frontal pic Here you can see the angle a bit better on a real plane And check the top part of the intakes, it is a smaller, kind of lip, than the larger edgy are in the current model Check the ladder for the entrance for the pilots and the little slit on the underside of the intakes, im not sure if it closes during faster flight or if it remains open, someone should clarify it If you guys plan to build a pit?!: All pics are taken from this site http://www.themodellingnews.com/2017/05/kittyhawk-are-busy-reworking-refining.html If you have questions or i wasn't clear enough with my comments, just PM as always So far, fantastic work!!! Really cool!

These four supersede the older Redoutable class, and they provide the ocean-based component (the Force océanique stratégique) of France’s nuclear deterrent strike force, the Force de Frappe. These ships are the most expensive submarines ever produced costing more than €4 billion. Their home port is Île Longue, Brest, Western Brittany. SNLE-NG In French, these are called Sous-Marin Nucléaire Lanceur d'Engins de Nouvelle Génération (English: “Next Generation Device-Launching Nuclear Submarine”), abbreviated as SNLE-NG. They have replaced all of the Redoutable-class boats, with the last of those six boats being decommissioned in 2008. -

Vehicles and buildings are full size, visible from gamer's cockpit on take off. Objects elsewhere will be 63% of this size and will fit artwork features - such as roads - even better.

1 pointView File Sikorsky S-16 The S-16 was designed by Igor Sikorsky as fighter escort for bombers and was the first Russian-built aircraft with a synchronized machine gun. The plane was small and highly maneuverable, but had a smaller engine than intended and was outclassed by German aircraft of the time. The dual axle landing gear was designed for landings on rough ground. Several versions of the S-16 were produced with variations in engines and wing configurations. Relatively few S-16s were produced, but were used throughout the war and in the Russian Civil War. This plane carries the markings of the Eskadra Vozdushnykh Korablei (Squadron of Air Ships), the world's first strategic bomber group. I have included four skins, several plain linen, and one gray-green. I have included my skinning templates so others can make new skins if they want. Credits And my thanks to ojcar, who created the FM to reproduce the nimble characteristics of the plane. My thanks to Nix, who provided the sound for the Gnome 80hp engine (and revised it until I was happy.) Historical Notes The Russian Banner with the yellow square and two-headed eagle was the imperial banner and was not used on aircraft, but the replica in Connecticut uses it, so I used it on mine. The gray-green version uses a more accurate fuselage marking. If historical accuracy is important to you, change the decals.ini for texture set 1 to use "EVKBanner" instead of "ImperialBanner". Wings Palette shows the gray-green plane with a red triangle on the fuselage. I believe this was a Bolshevik plane in which red was painted over the standard Russian markings. I used the standard markings on mine. Version 2 Notes I have made slight changes to model, especially to the way the plane is rigged, and Ojcar has made a new FM for this plane. I have also improved the skins and made new skins for some different Russian squadrons. Version 3 Notes I have made all new LODs, with higher detail and lower poly count, and with all new skins. Ojcar has made a new FM for this plane. Installation instructions This is a completely new plane, if you have already installed the Sikorsky S-16, delete it and replace it with this version, including the decals. The sound file remains the same. For FE1 - Unzip the file and move the folder named "SikorskyS16" into the "Aircraft" folder in the FirstEagles/Objects folder. If you don't already have it, move the sound file "gnome80m4.wav" into the FirstEagles/Sounds folder. For FE2 - Unzip the file and move the folder named "SikorskyS16" into the "Aircraft" folder in the FirstEagles/Objects folder. Then in the FirstEagles/Objects/Decals folder, create a new folder named "SikorskyS16". Move the folder named "D" from the Aircraft/SikorskyS16 folder into the Decals/SikorskyS16 folder you just made. If you don't already have it, move the sound file "gnome80m4.wav" into the FirstEagles/Sounds folder. Submitter Stephen1918 Submitted 05/25/2011 Category Other Entente Aircraft
