Nah, go with the camo version, the more diverse the terrain the better, most large important structures ie factories etc also got camoflaged in some way, walls and roofs were usually done green and black, hell they even filled in a lake near me to prevent the bombers from using it as a navigation point for the nearby Crewe works/railyard and Rolls Royce factories. More instances here.... https://heritagecalling.com/2019/10/07/the-story-of-camouflage-during-the-second-world-war/

i'd go with the 'open space' version, even if it's not historically correct. It's easier to work with when targeting

I had not known, that the british side had camouflaged some airfields during Battle of Britain. Here is an air footage from 1940 of RAF Tangmere Thatswhy i have experimented with a camouflaged tile for airfields: RAF Tangmere: What do you think about this airfield tile. Should it stay in terrain or should i use the old (not camo) green version?

I didn't like the area around the airfield yet. Thatswhy i changed the tiles around the airfield, played with the Croydon tile and so it looks now: The TOD houses of the stock London City tiles are still WIP. Dont care that they have windows in the roof.

Tanks did not appear on the battlefield until mid 1917 and were used mostly on the Western Front. But cars and trucks with steel plating and machine guns were used from the beginning of the war and were used in large numbers on all fronts. I have made a set of five armored cars which can be used to replace the tanks in Army Co-operation missions. The tanks in First Eagles have a start date of 5/1917, these armored cars have a start date of 5/1914, so they will automatically replace the tanks in missions dated 1916 or before. This download includes: A British Rolls Royce, built on a Silver Ghost car chassis and armed with a Vickers Machine Gun in the turret. If you've seen the movie "Lawrence of Arabia," this is the car they used in some of the battle sequences. A German Ehrhardt, with two Maxim Machine Guns in the turret. These were used mostly on the Eastern Front. A French Peugeot, with a Hotchkiss Machine Gun in the Turret. Peugeots didn't have turrets until very late in the war, but I thought this looked better than an open truck, and it was easier to build. An Italian Lancia, with two Fiat-Revelli Machine Guns in the turret. The rails on the front were for ripping up barbed wire. A Russian Putilov, built on a British Austin truck chassis, with Vickers Machine Guns in two turrets. The steel trough around the gun and the multiple turrets are fairly typical of Russian armored vehicles. I have included destroyed versions of all the trucks. They explode and burn quite nicely. Installation Instructions Unzip the file and drag the five armored car folders and the file named "DestroyedArmoredCar.bmp" into your FirstEagles/Objects/GroundObject folder. All the destroyed vehicles use the same skin and the BMP file must be in root level of the GroundObject folder.

Kudos to Wrench! He massaged the basic elements I sent him, and created a complete DL ready to drop into your game folders. He set it up for SF2 but it should work OK for FE2. As usual, pay attention to the ReadMe. This pack does not include airfield figures - they are still in-work so a separate pack will be released when they are complete. The floor of the large hangar is a separate object, similar to the parking ramp. Hopefully, you can tweak the height and angle of these objects if you encounter problems with a game map that is not completely flat and level.

Most of the anti-aircraft guns in World War One were converted field guns, especially during the early years. Some modifications were necessary however to make an effective anti-aircraft weapon. I have created four new anti-aircraft guns for First Eagles. A French 75mm field gun, mounted on a 120mm gun carriage. This allowed the barrel to be elevated quite high without danger of the breech hitting the ground on the recoil. A Russian Putilov 76.2mm field gun. The turntable mount and variations of it were common in WWI because the gun could be quickly dismounted and used as a field gun again. A German Krupp 77mm gun on a special anti-aircraft gun carriage. The axles were hinged and the tail had an anchor to allow the gun to be easily rotated. The gap in the carriage allowed the gun to be elevated higher than a normal field gun. An Italian Déport 77mm field gun. The recoil mechanism remained horizontal so the breech couldn't hit the ground no matter how high the gun was aimed. An improvised mount gave the gun a higher elevation. Captured field guns were often used as anti-aircraft weapons. I have left the helmets and tunics off the gun crews so you can easily convert them to whatever nation you want. It wouldn't be unusual to see Austrians using an Italian gun, Germans using a French gun, or Russians using a German gun. All guns use the stock 75mm gun data from First Eagles. My thanks to Hansa for providing reference material for World War I anti-aircraft guns. Installation Instructions You can install the guns individually or all at once. Unzip the file and move the folders you want into the FirstEagles/Objects/GroundObjects folder. You must also copy the file "DestroyedAAA.bmp" into the FirstEagles/Objects/GroundObjects folder. Destroyed versions of all the guns use the same skin. The file named "DestroyedAAA.bmp" must be placed in the root level of the GroundObjects folder (not inside any other folders.)

I have created 10 new infantry units for First Eagles. They are all pretty much identical except for their helmets and uniform colors. Each unit is a five man squad (three riflemen and two runners.) The units will move around and the riflemen will aim and fire independently. I have created a dust effect for when they are moving and I've created a gunshot sound for their rifles. The rifles are based on Peter01's rifle data, with my sound effect and a few other minor changes. All the Entente units use the Lee Enfield rifle, and all the Central units use the Mauser. This download includes infantry units for: Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Austria, Belgium, Russia, America, Australia, and Turkey. I couldn't bring myself to kill the poor guys, so they just disappear when they get shot. Credits My thanks to Heck and Geo for leading the way! Thanks also to Peter01 for his original rifle data files. Installation Instructions Unzip the file and copy the units you want from my GroundObjects folder into your FirstEagles/Objects/GroundObjects folder. Copy the sound file "InfantryRifle.wav" from my Sounds folder into your FirstEagles/Sounds folder. Copy the dust effect "RunningInfantryEmitter.ini" from my Effects folder into your FirstEagles/Effects folder. Follow the instructions for installing the guns and sound in the two other instruction files included with the download.

Republic F-7M 'Thunderpig' for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2 This is a very simple mod of the stock MiG-27 to give a fictional Republic F-7M 'Thunderpig' as it might have appeared in service with the USMC at the time of Operation Desert Storm in 1991. Two units are covered, VMFA-333 'Shamrocks' and VMFA-451 'Warlords'. INSTRUCTIONS 1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the F-7M folder into your Aircraft folder. 2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the F-7M folder into your Decals folder. That's it! CREDITS As always, thanks to Third Wire for a great little game/sim. Republic F-7C Thunderstorm for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2 This is a very simple mod of the stock MiG-23ML/P to give a fictional Republic F-7C Thunderstorm in service with the 428th and 429th Tactical Fighter Squadrons in the Vietnam SEA style skin with 'Combat Lancer' rudder flashes. The USAF SEA style scheme is a lucky find as it's one of the stock Czech camo schemes! Thanks TK! BACKSTORY During late 1958 the Langley Laboratory made the breakthrough that led to the realisation of a valid variable-sweep wing and by early 1959 Tactical Air Command (TAC) could see that this massive technological breakthrough could be the key to help them in their search for a tactical strike fighter to replace both the F-100 Super Sabre and the F-105 Thunderchief. Pretty soon however the numerical values for unrefuelled range and payload that TAC had attached to their mission requirements had the effect of turning all the paper studies from F-105 sized machines to much larger tactical bombers with a corresponding increase in cost and price and this reduced affordability was of great concern to TAC. In the Autumn of 1959 TAC wisely decided to split their requirement into a smaller tactical fighter to replace the F-100 and a larger tactical bomber to replace the F-105, B-57 and B-66. The larger aircraft would evolve into Specific Operational Requirement No.183 that would launch the important TFX (tactical fighter experimental) programme and eventually lead (via a tortuous route) to the outstanding but highly compromised F-111 family whilst the smaller aircraft would lead to Specific Operational Requirement No.182 or TAX (tactical aircraft experimental). Issued in March 1960 SOR182 called for a single-seat tactical fighter aircraft with “reduced dependence of paved runways” and with “the ability to carry a nuclear bomb at supersonic speed at tree-top height”. Requests for Proposals were immediately sent out to industry and Republic Aviation’s proposal soon gained the support of TAC by virtue of its use of a variable-sweep wing but also by the use of the existing J75 turbojet and F-105 avionics. With the end of F-105 production on the horizon Republic Aviation pushed hard for SOR182/TAX and in February 1961 they were rewarded with a contract for 24 prototype and pre-production YF-110 aircraft and 400 production F-110A machines and Republic wasted no time in bestowing the name of ‘Thunderstorm’ to the latest of their long line of fighter aircraft. Republic Aviation were fortunate in being awarded the contract before Secretary of Defence Robert S. McNamara had got into his stride and the programme largely escaped McNamara and his whiz-kids. Development moved swiftly and during 1962 the programme was re-designated F-7 under the new tri-service designation scheme and the first prototype took to the air on December 22nd 1962 a full year ahead of the F-111A. Entering service in June 1965 the F-7A was followed by the F-7B two-seat trainer version and the more advanced F-7C version that first deployed to Vietnam in March 1968 when a two-squadron wing transferred to Takhli Royal Thia AFB, Thailand in a deployment called ‘Combat Lancer’. INSTRUCTIONS 1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the F-7C folder into your Aircraft folder. 2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the F-7C folder into your Decals folder. That's it! CREDITS As always, thanks to Third Wire for a great little game/sim. And, finally, thanks to everyone in the wider Third Wire community. Regards Spinners Version 2 - 22/05/2020 Version 1 - 17/08/11
