gotta think big picture up until linebacker, the US wasnt deploying its big war fighting toys up north in a large fashion. testing some of the latest (F-111) or keeping stuff down south (B-52 Arc Lights) but not waves of the big bombers for most of the war. the missile boats and Tu-22 and possibly the Yak would definitely been used to attack the fleet at Yankee Station or airbases in the south, causing a massive retaliation. with expectaion of Russian support after that retaliation. that wouldnt have flown in the Kremlin MiG-25 probaably wouldnt have been sent, too many direct US recce assets that would have loved to record that radar. plus they were desired for motherland defense, Linebacker being too quick of a development to train North Vietnamese on them before the end of hostilities (after which they were needed) the arab air forces got new stuff mainly because they 1 werent Communist and so it wasnt a matter "Socialist fraternity against the Imperialists" (or however you want to phrase it) 2 paid hard currency for their toys 3 fought an enemy using mostly US/NATO origin weapons, but had little chance of directly engaging US forces (gonna call the flare up in 1973 a fluke, typically the superpowers didnt get officially too directly involved) the North Vietnamese were exactly opposite all these points, and major escalation to save an ally could have been bad (again, see the fluke of 1973) Zeus 23 was deployed in 1975 during the invasion of teh south. Again, the Soviets probably were not in a hurry for the Americans to get a good look at the radar on that. an issue in 1972, but not in 75.

realSKY Environment January 13th, 2019 (1st Release) by Menrva >For Strike Fighters 2 games This is my sky enhancement mod. It also combines the work of many other modders, in order to provide a realistic, better looking sky. Here below a quick summary of the changes: -Tweaked sky colours, something in between Cellinsky's widesky and the stock SF2 colours. -More realistic Night colours, sky and ambient are much darker. -More atmospheric, reddish transition from Twilight to Night. -New "dark blue" High Altitude colours (fly near space with a NF-104). -Moon produces a yellowish light instead of the default purple. -Sky is "wider" much like Cellinsky's widesky mod (background horizon clouds are bigger and more noticeable). -Added beautiful cloud graphics made by Cellinsky and ShrikeHawk, tweaked for each weather type. -Added a low number of stray clouds to Clear weather. -Added noticeable clouds to Overcast weather and Inclement weather, "fixing" a known SF2 "bug". -Combined various mods to produce a more interesting Rain Effect under Inclement weather. -Added Stary's lens flare effects from the SARCASM 2 mod, in place of Cellinsky's widesky effects. -Added Cloud Layer graphics by Stary, Fubar512 and Brain32. -Reworked secondary atmospheric effects, such as contrails and wingtip vortexes. In addition, the package includes alternative environment configuration files in the Alternative Weather folder; they enable different effects for the Inclement weather. You can choose between thunderstorm (default, adapt for most terrains), snowstorm (for cold, icy terrains) and sandstorm (for hot, desert terrains). For those who wish not to change the effect globally, I highly suggest to try the included terrain-specific environment example provided for stock SF2 terrains; the default global effect is thunderstorm, while terrains with their own environment file either use sandstorm or snowstorm as appropriate. Use this as a basis to customize other terrains. By setting the Effects to Unlimited, the game makes use of a DirectX 10 post processing effect; the stock game's post processing shader generates a pointless and horrible bloom effect which excessively blinds the player during twilight transitions. By default, realSKY includes a reworked post processing shader (TWPOSTPROCESS.FX) which provides more contrast, more vignetting, minor color correction and a daytime-only bloom effect, so it's miles better than what the stock game offers. Alternative post processing tweaks are included in the Alternative Shaders folder; choose the one you wish to try (check the included screenshots for fast comparisons) and overwrite the default one in your mod's Flight folder. If you don't care about the post processing effect, you may want to set the game's Effects to High in the Options menu. >Credits (in no particular order): -Cellinsky, for his fantastic widesky mod from which I borrowed some tweaks. -Stary, for his Thunderstorm and Heavy Snowfall weather mods, and his SARCASM 2 beta mod from which I borrowed some effects. -PanamaRed, for tweaks in regards to Clouds (especially the Broken weather ones). -Fubar512 and Brain32, for their Cloud Layer Top bitmaps, which I have smoothed for a better looking effect. -ShrikeHawk, for his CloudSkins mods, from which I took the spectacular cloud graphics. -BearGryllis, for his Thunderstorm Pack With Enhanced Lightnings 2.0b package. -Orsin, for his Improved Rain Effect and Heavy Rain 0.8 mods. -luk1978, for his interesting WeatherEffect package. -ArmedLightning, for his Special FX v2.2 mod for the GTR 2 game, from which I borrowed a lens flare effect. -baffmeister, for the idea of recreating sandstorm weather effects. -tiopilotos, for suggesting improvements on other subjects. -Eagle114th, for his Improved Wingtip Vortex mod which I have reworked. -JosefK, guuruu and Coupi, for their interest and support. I included the original readme files from the mentioned mods, where available, to the end of giving proper credit to everyone involved directly or not. >Disclaimer: This is a freeware; yet it can be redistributed ONLY in other CombatACE mods/mod packages. This mod may NOT in any way, shape or form be used in any payware additions.

Dear Friends, The cold November is here already and we continue working on our projects. An important milestone for the Battle of Normandy is getting near - its map will be ready to a degree that will allow us to begin the development of Pilot's Career for this theater (meaning that settlements, airfields, roads, rivers and forests will be there). It will be too early to share the screenshots of the map itself at this point since the work on its visual part - texturing and finalizing landscape features, coast and additional detail - happens at the last stage of development according to our workflow. Nevertheless, this stage is not very far away either, since the map overall progresses according to the plan. Speaking of the map, we can say that creation of map objects is finished, including the new city blocks characteristic for Britain, coastal defenses, radar stations, farmsteads for rural areas and, of course, unique landmarks. For creating believable airfields, certain additional airfield objects were created which are characteristic of this theater of war. The work on various naval and ground units for BoN continues - there are several ship types that participated in the landing, including landing craft and radar-equipped ones, and several vehicles like this British armored car Humber Mk.IV, which is ready for deployment. The German heavy fighter Ju 88 C-6 and the legendary US fighter P-51B-5 are getting close to release. Progress on the P-51B has been frustratingly slow with several technical delays due to research and software issues. Anyway, it's Flight Model 99% done and only Malcolm Hood visual is on the finish line of production. Please be patient the early Pony will get here we promise! Arado 234, Mosquito FB MK.VI and Me 410 are at earlier stages of development, but they are progressing according to the general plan. In the meantime, the work on the new fuel system is nearly finished and it will make its debut on Bf 109 fighters. As soon as it is ready we'll apply it to all the aircraft of the sim. This new tech will make the fuel system modeling more realistic, damageable in more detail and pilot interfacing with it will be recreated with more fine details. With this new technology up and running, we plan to switch to the development of the launch, guidance and warhead functioning of the V-1 vengeance weapon - its FM and 3D model, including the launch site, are already ready. There is good progress in Flying Circus Vol. II project is well. The German two-seater recon/strike airplane DFW C.V is the closest one for the release - at the moment its 3D model is nearly finished while its FM is in the works - and we plan to have it in the next update already. Sopwith Triplane should be also released before the end of the year as well as the British heavy bomber Handley Page O/400. Early next year we'll have to finish German bomber Gotha G.V, Western Front map, and two Collector Planes, late WWI fighters. In addition, there is a lot of WWI-era ground vehicles incoming - for instance, in the next update, we plan to release Jeffery Quad, Benz LKW 1912 and Daimler DR4 in several modifications and tanks - Mark V female, Reno FT and Schneider CA 1. WWI aviators will find their life slightly more complicated due to the addition of the German 37mm automatic AA gun Maxim Flak M14. All the things listed above are just a fraction of what we and our partners are working on at the moment, so please stay tuned - we'll be able to tell you more about the other development streams in our next Dev Diaries.

Mirage F-1CZ (82). This mod is dedicated to BPAO, nothing would have been possible without him. South Africa began looking for a replacement for the Mirage III in 1971 and purchased a licence to manufacture the Mirage F1 and its engine, the intention being to produce up to 100 Mirage F1s. This license was however cancelled because of the 1977 arms embargo. The SAAF then bought 16 Mirage F1CZs and 32 Mirage F1AZs which were quickly delivered by Dassault before the embargo was implemented, with deliveries starting in 1975. Both the F1CZ and F1AZ variants of the SAAF saw action during operations in the Border War. This version include new RWR and chaffs and flares dispensers. Covered unit : N°3 Squadron Annual Air Combat Manoeuvring 1986 A big thank to all on Combatace and C6 forums that helped us solving issues we encountered. Any omission in credits is totally unwanted, if I forgot somebody, let me know, I will correct this. This addon is and will in all cases remain freeware. Released under CombatAce Fair-Use terms. Enjoy The Mirage F-1 Team.

Mirage F1AZ (1975-1991) This mod is dedicated to BPAO, nothing would have been possible without him. Single-seat strike and multi-role fighter. It is a simplified attack version with extra fuel in place of radar and some other all-weather avionics. The South African Air Force recognized the advantages of a simplified version of the Mirafe F1CZ for day visual attack missions. The resulting Dassault-Breguet Mirage F1AZ is visually distinguished by having a slender conical nose, resulting from removal of the large Cyrano IVM radar. In its place is the ESD Aïda II ranging radar and a laser-ranger, with a large instrument boom housing the pitot/static heads attached on the underside of the nose. The main avionics racking is moved from behind the cockpit to the nose, making room for an extra fuselage tank. Other additions are a Doppler radar and a retractable refueling probe. South Africa received 32 aircraft for service with No. 1 Sqn. The aircraft were withdrawn from service in 1997. Covered unit : N°1 Squadron Early Camo. N°1 Squadron Experimental Camo. This addon is and will in all cases remain freeware. Released under CombatAce Fair-Use terms. Enjoy The Mirage F-1 Team.

The NVA were training on SA-3 but it apparently never saw service in Linebacker II and the the deal may have been cancelled after the US involvement ended. (2018, B-52 Vs SA-2, Osprey) The SAM-X..........AKA killer SAM site is listed as an Urban legend in The Eleven Days of Christmas (2002 Michel III). The site identified as VN-549 didn't match any Vietnamese records. They also guessed that might have been an SA-3 ..................however it seems to have been the tactics the NVA used with the newly modified SA-2B they were using.

Progress shots. I still need to change some of the flight numbers for ECN 1/13- the aircraft below (No.117 flown by Cap. Treillard) was actually White 1, not White 2 as depicted. The P63.11 may take some time as the fuselage is mapped a little differently to the P630. It means that the size and orientation of some layers will have to be tweaked. However, when done, there are dozens of possible squadrons and theatres.

Brits of a certain age may remember a 1970s/1980's comic called 'Battle Picture Weekly' which then became simply 'Battle,' and a strip called 'Johnny Red' When pilot Johnny Redburn is discharged from the RAF for striking an officer, he is forced to join the Merchant Navy. But a German sneak attack forces Redburn back into the air — in a stolen CAM ship Hurricane when the pilot is killed! Having beaten off the enemy bombers Redburn aims for Russia, planning to save his plane and career, but on landing, meets the “Falcon Squadron” of the 5th Soviet Air Brigade, who are under German attack! Redburn takes to the skies once more — to fight for Russia! Now, thanks to Crisisloaner I have a Falcons decal that I can apply to the various Hurricane models we have in-game as well as the assortment of MiGs, Yaks and Laggs that the Falcons flew, and over 40 years after thrilling to the comic exploits after school I get to fly as Johnny Red (or Yakob if I feel like flying a Russian job) after work and, as the advert says, I'm loving it... A Merlin engine and 8 .303s - the sound of my childhood.. 'Tough luck chum. I think it's time you got out..' The Luftwaffe pilot calmly switched off his engine in an attempt to starve the fire... 'He's getting away Johnny' 'Leave him Rudi, if he survives a landing in a snowfield he's still got a twenty mile walk to the nearest German lines..' Heading for home.. Escort mission.. ...The newest replacement Chekov had only joined the squadron the day before, and there hadn't been enough time to paint his aircraft in Falcons markings.. Later, in the midst of battle... 'Chekov, watch your tail...' 'I'm not going to get there in time...' Johnny rolled in the avenge the youngster.. And made short work of the 109 Johnny leads the Falcons to intercept a bombing raid over the Black Sea coast.. 'Get stuck in lads, there's plenty for everyone..' Johnny and Nina..
