    BAC Lightning F.Mk.54 - Marinefliegergeschwader 1, 1970 The first rumours of an alleged bribery scandal surrounding the purchase of the Lockheed F-104G Starfighter by the West German Government coincided with the ferociously high attrition rate of the Starfighter in Luftwaffe and Marineflieger service. With the end of Lightning production on the near horizon BAC submitted a brochure to the Bonn Government and Marineflieger Officials for a proposed multi-role Lightning based on the F.53 and this proposal was accepted leading to a modest production order for 60 Lightning F.54's which entered service in late 1968 with MFG1 and MFG2 before being retired in 1987.

    I forgot you could render good tga`s with max... engine on left ignore prop and casing....engine bits on left are 7000 polys....one on right 14 as long as you have a pure white back it renders a decent tga..tga on left ..alpha channel on right...

    WIP screenshot: London Cityport. You see, that the blending tiles south of the port (over the left wing of the plane) are not made yet. (5 or 6 tiles) When all tiles are made and placed, i will have to make them "older". Modern features, like the runway in London Cityport or modern factories, motorways etc i must overpaint.

    Russ, right on with this - this is an absolutely appropriate use case of leveraging a .tga texture! That being said, overall definitely suggest using tga to just limited and strategic use only. .Tgas under this game engine really hurt performance overall and can cause z-buffering/fighting issues. Also, another thing is that transparency in .tga /double-sided textures will not cast shadows so something else to keep in mind.

    From Battersea Park to London City Port, the tiles are layed out. 21 kilometers of photorealistic tiling in 1024x1024 pixel tiles. Only one negative aspect. It cant made with TGA files, because one single tile would have a size of 4097 kb. In jpeg a tile has the size of 250 - 350 kb.
